Is it me, or have there been more leaks and mockups for this iPhone than for any previous models in years past?

Because there's no Steve. If it's Steve, he will hired FBI and knock at the front door on the very first person who has the leaked photos. :D

And by the way, I find all this very funny. Last year it was the same story. At one point it was clear that the next iPhone would have been the 4s, and yet people here on macrumors were still talking nonsense like: "Apple is spreading false controlled leaks, then at the keynote they'll give us a bigger iPhone with tapered design." Yeah...now it's the same thing. Again.

The new iPhone design is simply brilliant. Of course, after a shallow look it seems to be similar to the 4, but it's actually quite different, the back is metal, so it's going to be more resistant, the screen is bigger, it's thinner. It's unibody so it will probably be strong enough to be aluminum made, instead of steel made, like the 4 and 4s. This will make it lighter, but equally resistant. Headphone jack is on the bottom, so when you are talking with your phone and it starts raining, water won't enter from there. The speaker is improved so we can expect better audio quality. We have a new smaller connector. Compared to the 4, the white iPhone 5 is more estetically balanced ( the bezel is smaller, the lateral band has a lighter colour and the stripes on it are white).

Then we can possibly expect:
Better screen with deeper blacks (look at the photos)
Better touch response (thanks to the in-cell touch panel)
Lte
Longer battery life,
Facetime HD camera,
More ram,
maybe a better processor (not so sure)

And we still haven't hear the keynote.
Compare it to the past (steve was here back then):
2007: iPhone
2008: iPhone 3g, same design of the original iPhone, but plastic made and THICKER! Nothing new except the 3g module
2009: iPhone 3gs, Lot of new things, but same same design

And you guys are complaining?:D

Color me disappointed - not at the phone's design, but at Tim Cook's ability to keep a secret. Way to go.

Don't know why you are blaming him since these part leaks are obviously coming out from a factory level. Blame the worker/s who are leaking them. I bet the money they're getting for the actual parts is worth the risk, for them anyway.

Anybody who believes that this is the phone that Apple will announce next week is a fool.

If you aren't trolling, maybe you should open your eyes and look at the evidence.

Disappoint who? You and the other tech nerds who are looking for some unnecessary redesign? You must be extremely unhappy with Apple selling the same notebook designs for 4-5 years at a time...

Certainly not you hapless fanboys who blindly drink the kool aid and do whatever Apple says. I mean it's 2012 and a ton of iPhone users are still using 3G.

----------

I could have sworn that is exactly what people said about the iPhone 4S, and it cleaned up the competition easily and made everyone rush out and develop shoddy wanna be Siri's

It really doesn't get much shoddier than the real Siri. Plus Sprint availability helped with that. Plus those siri "imitators" were out before Siri was announced. Since you know, Siri was an app prior to it being a standard feature.

Deeper blacks don't really matter. No one looks THAT closely at the screen. Better touch response....cause it's bad now? Longer battery life? The 4s is a 3G phone with a 3.5 inch screen and the battery life is horrendous....yet you think a bigger screen and LTE on an Apple phone will equal better batter life? Be honest with yourself, this update could suck....a lot.

You think? 4G data won't be a slightly different experience?

So we got this thing called wifi....

Honestly? Cause it makes sense IMO.

I don't know about you but I know me, and every time I see someone pull their phone out of their pocket the phone comes out bottom side first. Because it gives you a natural way to automatically start using the phone.

I grab it, rotate the screen toward me and then I can immediately slide it back in my pocket. With the headphone jack on the top and the way most people put their phones in their pocket it could sometimes (and has for me) caused the headphones to get caught on the phone and sometimes pull out the headphones from your ear.

Since I'll upgrading from a 3GS I expect to be happy with the new phone :)

Of course I'll wait till the new year to get it since the first batches of any new tech usually have issues.

You don't notice the thickness? It's 18% thinner. It will be VERY noticible when u hold it. What do you mean "it still looks as fat?" Take another look at the pics. You can see exactly how much thinner it is. And it's doesn't look the same.

It IS thinner and i CAN see that on the picture but they said it's as thin as the iPod touch and it doesn't look that thin. :/

Please no more of these fake iPhones. Apple will not use the same design for three years in a row. Anybody who believes that this is the phone that Apple will announce next week is a fool.

Oh dear, I think you might be in for a slice of humble pie next week...

Put the home button on the back and use the full front space for 4.4" screen !!! Or simply remove that crappy 70's button...

Well I think this is the new IPOD... The new iPhone is currently a mysterious device that has the audio jack on top :) and 4.2" screen wider and taller!!!

I bet 0.1$ on that!

Seriously I'm disappointed how apple lost the culture of secret...

I'm sure this has been said already (or may be not). But, ugh, I really hope this isn't the real deal. I'm fine with the thickness, screen size, etc but not with the dock connector or the movement of the headphone jack to the bottom. If this is it, I will find it hard to justify upgrading.

I really hope this is not the new iPhone. It just doesn't make sense to me. I can't believe Apple would allow so many leaks. And don't tell me you can't control the workers in the factory or whatever the sources of the leaks are. There is always a way.

And that "revolutionary" taller design seems ridiculous to me. I can't believe they approved it.

So I'd like to see Tim Cook coming out on the stage on 12 Sep, pulling this "thing" out of his pocket and saying "Seen this? Well, I don't know what this is, but it's not the new iPhone". :D

However, if all those leaks turn out to be true, I'll still buy it, but I'll feel a little disappointed.

I like that the edges of the glass is less exposed to hits when dropped.

Agree. I hope the screen doesn't have that plastic band around it like the current iPhone 4S (and the 4) do on the front and back glass. Just feels kind of, well, plasticky.

The plastic band is there to protect against chipping, most likely. Maybe recessing the screen inside the metal enclosure will provide enough chip protection that the plastic edge can be eliminated.

Never once was the iPhone supposed to be as thin as the touch. It's literally impossible. Not to mention horrible. It's gotta have some meat to it.

C'mon now. It's the real deal. Do u REALLY still think apple has some secret device that's gonna be different then what we've seen? Or that the dock connector is fake? Or that the jack didn't move to the bottom? If so, ur in for a huge let down.

I'll be very surprised if this ends up to be the final model and but I'll be surprised if it doesn't as equally. Of course Apple wouldn't mind leaking parts that aren't the final model as we saw in the iPhone 4S build-up which was tainted as the iP5. Same for the iPad Mini. What's to say these aren't small run prototype builds that manufacturers have made cheeky post-runs to create some hype.

To be fair, I really like the progression from the iPhone 4/4S to remove the hard edges between the metal and glass. As long as it's not a disasterous intro, I'll be odds on to upgrading in March (once the bugs are ironed out post-initial OS release).

What's a "4GS?"

All you have to do is buy another cable.

Damn people whine about everything.

4S, 4G, whatever.

Will this cable hold this new phone up in the dock stations or will the phone lay out and over the device like a limp banana?

Its not complaining. we all are apple fanboys, but sometimes complaining is warranted.
