I agreee with CNET

I'm running out of patience. I sold my older MBP and waiting to buy something but looking at the choices Apple current offerings are way behind. 2k+ for 2.8GHz MBP with USB 2.0. ... Please. Don't get me wrong I'm willing to pay a bit more for a mac but it has to compare with current availability. If they're not going to release something in Feb I'll get something else. I'm tire of waiting.

Why wait, go for something else now. I mean, if something's already out there, what's stopping you? :p

Everyone's tired of waiting.. I think Apple would lose thousands of people to the sony vaio z if they don't release the refresh by the 23rd.

Uh no, you might want to limit the people actually waiting to geeks or people that frequent internet forums. The average consumer which represents more than 90% of the computing world isn't sitting around complaining that Apple hasn't updated their MBP line to the new Core i series. Heck, most people think what's currently available from any manufacturer is their latest.

why wait? simple... I loved every thing about my MBP but core 2 duo is outdated and I would like something new. At the same time I'm not going to wait for ever.

There are several i7 notebooks available right now. If you truly want a Mac you'll use a Mac. You make it sound like you have not invested into one stitch of Mac software and it's just as easy to go back to Windows. If that's the case, then try the HP Envy, whatever Dell has available or Sony's F series Core i7. If those aren't sufficient then IMO you're blowing smoke, because those same one's will be available when Apple updates their line.

Well seeing as Parallels 5, VMware Fusion 3 and Virtual Box don't support VT-d, your crying over nothing.

It's coming, at least to Fusion and Parallels. Parallels has demo'd it, not sure about VMWare.

For future-proofing, if a user is a heavy virtualization user (as I am), VT-d is worth seeking.

Why does everyone keep saying Apple doesn't update for so and so reasons and they will update because of this and this. Think about it people, most manufacturers have not even started shipping their i5 or i7 laptops yet. Sony for instance isn't shipping anything i5 or i7 till march. There are a few clarksdale i7s and i3's in stores but a majority don't have availability yet. What makes Apple so different? They just haven't announced yet. Also Apples update cycle tends to happen at the end of February. It's barely mid February and everyone is making complaints and excuses. I need my laptop badly for school too but apple doesn't release products based on your personal schedule but their own. Stop whining and either wait or go buy something else.

I think, it is not about being ready to ship!

I think, it is about knowing what's in the laptop inside, what features added, which removed. Which graphics card, which particular processor in which model.
Sony's S 13 inch laptop (I think it is the S series) is pretty impressive of what it can do! Or said correctly: of what it will be able to do when it is sold in March. Yet we had not a word from Apple.

It is what troubles me and I think others most.

Given a case they update the motherboard only, say i5 + some ATi Card, I am not impressed.

But if they have a new design, aspect ratio, usb3 blue ray, better webcam, higher res on the display, better mic, maybe something esle new and revolutionary, what Apple is known for, it will be more interesting to hear about that, even if I would not like a particular technology.

I think, with the outdated hardware, I am more concerned about a high price, than its performance.
If prices fall to a reasonable level, the current macbook is worth trying. But it usually does not happen, and if, the prices are not slashed, only a small piece of it is scrapped off the top.

I said "everyone's TIRED of waiting." not "everyone is waiting." Even if I said that, it's quite ignorant to criticize my comment and take "everyone" literally. You might as well take my comment and say, "Uh no, people don't need to sleep just because MBPs are overdue."

Heck, most people think what's currently available from any manufacturer is their latest.

And this is the reason why those people are still buying Apple's current MBP line. If they knew something better was on the horizon they would stop buying outdated stuff.

This is very true. Someone recently posted on another forum I read (non-tech related) that he was looking to purchase a MBP. I told him it would be a good idea to wait a few weeks because new models are about to be released, and he had no idea.

I've seen/read i5/i7 core notebooks have problems with overheating issues already and their very bulky notebooks.

My brother has been using his i7 core Sager for about 3 months now and he's been complaining that his notebook's fans are way too loud all the time (even on the so called quiet mode), while the notebook is twice as thick as my 17" mbp!!

It's not the same! The new 'i3/i5/i7' chips are different and use less power (and thus put off less heat) than one that you would get in an i7 notebook from three months ago. Myself and lots of others expected Apple to pass on this chip until the lower power version came out rather than ruin the aesthetic.

+1 just sold my MBP and am anxiously waiting for a refreshed 17" MBP

Are we missing the point here?

Are we missing the point that's being made in the article? The new technology is not only out but has various models for sale. Would I like most people here trash my Mac and go get a windows machine? Absolutely not. However, none of us here can deny that the technology is there and it's time for Apple to deliver the goods. If no one thought that was so then there would not be countless posts here and elsewhere about when the "new" MBP's are coming out. Cutting edge doesn't necessarily mean being first but it sure does mean keeping up with the latest and greatest. We're not getting paid by Apple, we pay them. It's not hard to see that what we're "waiting" for is not a dream but a reality. Go to any computer section and you will see in person on the PC side what we're hoping for on the Mac side. If we be honest "waiting" is not easy! lol

Hundert, I said the Samething in the arrandale thread and I was flamed for saying that....

People don't understand that as long as they are selling, apple will love not updating and charging lots for older technology....

You don't even have to go to CNET. Nor do you have to compare with Dell. Go to www.apple.com and compare the MacBook to the MacBook Pro 13.

The difference amounts to a lighted keyboard and an aluminum body.

I've had people ask me which to get and there is no possible way to recommend a MacBook Pro unless money is no object and it fits better with your decor.

Firewire. You forgot firewire. Obviously not important to you, but it makes the difference for those who need it.

Saying CNET is an Apple basher is silly at best. They routinely give Apple products high marks. With the new Intel processors being out, and the competition on the PC side lauching the latest and greatest, most of which are cheaper than their older C2D Mac counterparts, and its not hard to see why sites are giving Apple the business about it. If Apple dropped the price of its C2D line, then I would applaud and understand. But to hold the line on prices is crazy. I want a new Macbook Pro, but I have no blind allegiance to Apple. I am going to give the Sony Vaio a look, and the Envy also. So I hope the new Macs come soon, or I will move on.

agreed

I agree with your comments. Apple is supposed to be a leader.

lol CNet has no clout. You must be mistaking them for a real tech blog. Besides CNet (and some of its members) are pretty anti Apple. They threw in a compliment to the 13 inch mbp but that didn't meet the agenda so they had to throw in that its antiquated.

For years MP3 players didn't get good reviews unless they were Apple branded from CNET.

They also give good reviews to Bose devices. They're useless.
