People on this thread need to grow up, so what Apple have dropped google maps and have introduce there own app for maps, Apple will improve the service but its the first release so will have glitches until its been improved, all you fan boys need to get a hobby or don't use the app until its been improved.

Right... so what if Apple promised the world and didn't come close to delivering it, crippled a bunch of 3rd party apps that are all in dire need of quick updates, and made a bunch of features I have been using for years non-functional.

It would be like a car company offering a computer upgrade to your car that would double the gas mileage... but, after the computer enhancements, you now used twice as much fuel than before, your door locks only worked manually, and you could no longer move your windows. Don't worry though, they're working on a fix and it should be improved eventually.

I lost features and functions of my phone and, for basic things that I could find in one app, I now have to sort through a bunch.

I'm making excuses? I clearly said it's the data that's lacking, or is the fandroid in you simply angry that google just lost billions of customers to steal private data from?

Oh and btw, I've used the app ~20 times last month, it got me to my destination while avoiding all the major traffic congestions.

Apple Maps says that some of London's busiest roads are traffic free, so they certainly wouldn't get me to my destination while avoiding traffic whenever I'm in London.

Probably Apple leaving the UK until last as usual.

Falsehood? You do realize the reason why google maps is so data-rich is because of local users from small communities who send millions of corrections to google, right?

Do you have a source that backs up this claim?

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just find it a little hard to believe that millions of average joes would report map errors.

But Apple maps will never have StreetView... or at least for a long time.

StreetView is far superior to 3D flyover

I'm sorry if this comes as a surprise to You... but Apple is a software company. Their hardware only shines because of their software and Apple makes hardware to bring more of their software experience to you. Presence and location will be the next big thing in mobile computing and Apple want's a piece of the pie - both Passbook and Maps is part of a strategy to own their users data in-house, integrate both ads and other solutions based on what you do, where you are and what you need. Find my friends and that kind of apps is using your data just as Google would do - You might just prefer/trust Apple over Google, but You are kidding Yourself if You think Apple isn't playing the same game as Google in this regard.

"People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware."

This is what Apple does - read into it, Jobs quoted this several times.

Yeah, thanks, but my point was more about Google being a search company, which means they get paid to put ads in front of eyes. Apple isn't a search company, so they wouldn't be using people's info in the same way.

You win the point on software/hardware, but it wasn't really what I meant.

Ah, you want to tell me that you don't know about iAds or the fact that all iOS devices track your behavior and send it to advertisers courtesy of Apple?

Yes, yes. Of course. Still, do you think Apple uses information in the same way that Google does? Can't wait to hear you make that case.

That's some mighty Apple rose colored glasses you have on! So Apple tracks everything you install, buy, and use on your iOS devices and shows you iAds and iTunes/AppStore "recommendations" where they get a cut of everything and yet that makes you more comfortable than using Google. Gee, I wonder if you have an overt bias?

"Siri" turns the music down so you can hear each direction. If you want you can turn the voice off all together

It's supposed to. So does Android's navigation. This has to be the silliest complaint I've seen so far.

Not silly at all. A lot of people listen to audiobooks and podcasts so many apps/standalone GPS pause the audio in order to keep the Navigation voice and audio track separate.

Thanks for the best joke of the year. yes, YOU are a joke.

To pretend that the old Google map is perfect is incredibly stupid.
Yea, it is incredibly stupid to say Google Maps is perfect. That's why nobody actually said it.

Honestly, the way some people defend Apple is pathetic. Being an Apple user does not make you part of their company so relax. If Tim Cook can accept Maps isn't good enough then so should his sycophants.

No glasses here, I'm aware of how Apple uses my information. I'm still waiting on you to state your case.

Oh, you are too much. Please, elaborate on what you think is different about Google and Apple. You worship one and refuse to even acknowledge it does the same things as the other.

Siri is all about search - when it came out people were pointing to the fact that it should be able to do better context than Google in the long run. Apple will not only use the information they get from their users in the same way Google does, they will do much more with it - classic ads the way Google implements them won't cut it in the near future, supplying you with information in a certain context will. Companies will pay big bucks to be number one on the list of restaurants/car dealers/whatever that users ask Siri for. Passing a Starbucks and have your iPhone (through passbook) pop up with a suggestion - another example. Classic Internet ads are a dying breed and Apple knows this - they are getting ready to play on another level.

Stephen Elop mentions Nokias map and image technology far more than their core phone business - presence will be big... There was an article the other day on Apples potential to go to one trillion - this is not because they will sell 10 times the amount of iPhones but because they will use (and capitalize on) the user-base and ecosystem they have.

FWIW, last week I saw a TomTom streetview car in Belfast, Ireland. It had a Belgian registration plate, so I'd assume they're doing all of Europe.

That has to be one of the worst articles I have read this whole year. A biased and paid "journalist" if I ever saw one. And I thought she was going to talk about Apple Maps, but she just goes on a tangent about Google and how "evil" they are because they log keywords you search for or have in emails to serve you targeted ads and makes a whole drama of how she "broke up" with Google.

Please...
