You can hardly call Microsoft "serious" about their OSs - anyone remember, uh, "Microsoft Bob "?! Heh, heh, heh. What the CRAP was that about?!

Sorry for the double post - Mr Jobs describes Apple products as "insanely great". It's one of the best running jokes Mac users have... heh, insanely. Great. ... heh.

once macintosh is a common topic in various media streams, then there is a possibility that people notice. it's good thing they talk about it and make comparisons; expecially favourable ones like this, but even bad press would be good press regarding market share and conquering windows' dominance.

i want more :)

Me too. People are starting to realise just how good Mac OS X actually is. I like watching Microsoft squirm.

MUHAHAHA

To add to my Clarus the Dogcow joke, this dancing dog has to be the oldest Apple OS feature Microsoft has copied.

It's so old that it's acually passé to Apple.

Clarus hasn't been doing backflips when you print since OS 9.

:D

Uh, just for clarification, they were referring to Windows XP when they talked about the dog. I think Vista loses that, with its new Spotlight-esque search.

Yea maybe it will throw up info when it works.

Once thousands of viruses and spywares get into the dog's blood stream it will likely just go into a coma, have seizures, or become brain damaged and will take hours to get the searched file.

If apple advertised their computers on TV, they could really attract more buyers.

Recommendations for Windows Vista...

#1 - Add lots of helpful animated characters
I hope Vista has tons of animated clippys, dogs, cats, birds all screaming to be clicked on or providing assistance or recommending you to download an update all at the same time. It would be just like popup IE windows now but coming from the OS itself. And no option to turn off so that it works the same on all PCs.

#2 - Inform the user of new Microsoft Products
I want Microsoft to advertise new products with multimedia elements while you are waiting for a printout or burning a CD or heck just typing a email message. Just annoy the end user to no end.

# 3 - Better Activation Code
Make the Activation code 36 characters longer and require you to enter this key everytime you reboot to help discourage rebooting, increase security, and reduce piracy. You can also use speech-to-text feature to enter the codes using only your voice.

# 4 - Reduce Piracy
Any music or video you buy in Windows Media format can only be managed on that PC for life with no deactive option to transfer ownership to a new PC. Content providers will love this feature.

The only thing close was the computers for schools thing here in the UK. I think it was a Tescos advert with an eMac.

They really should advertise on TV.

Haha! I actually experienced that dog for the first time the other day on an old mac! When I read this CNN article I thought to myself, "Oh my god! They're totally ripping off that Mac icon I saw!"

Just as a side note, I got bored when it was stalling and I moved my mouse so the dog looked like it was jumping backwards....

I'm bored.

Clarus is a Dogcow, thank you very much.

Apple ran a G5 ad for a short while, it showed a guy getting blown out of his house because his computer was just so unbelievably powerful. I kid you not. The ad was eventually pulled after complaints regarding the tagline, "the world's most powerful personal computer"...

I do have to say that, while I don't just download random apps on my computer, and I don't have spyware or adware, obviously, outgoing firewall service, à la ZoneAlarm, that prompts you as to whether new software is allowed to get out on the net or not, would be a nice thing in OS X Leopard, or better yet, in a dot upgrade to Tiger.

Has anyone here activated a PC that wasn't going out on the 'net? It's awful. You have to read this horrendously long code into the phone, where speech-to-text takes it in, and spits you out your activation code. I found I had to go somewhere completely quiet for it to work.

..."insanely late" as in the Second Coming. Where the heck are you anyway, and why are you posting on bulletin boards instead of saving the world?

With Windows Vista's User Account Protection, even administrators are prompted for a password whenever anything is installed or a system setting changed. It's an extra layer of protection that's long been a part Unix-style operating systems, including Mac OS X and Linux.

The protection was not turned on by default in Beta 1, and it's not clear whether it will be in the final release.

I'll laugh my butt off if they don't have "User Account Protection" turned on by default on the final release.

"Yes, Vista is much more secure than previous versions of Windows, but by default we turn most of those security features off."

CLARUS

I hope they don't copy her, she's just too great.

**sniff**

Isn't Clarus a male? In latin, names ending in -us are male and -a are female.

I LOVED that commercial!! I fell off the couch laughing every time I saw it. Those clever Apple folks. Do more of those.

Who would complain about the tagline? It IS the world's most powerful personal computer.

I don't see consumers going out and buying $3248593569billion dollar supercomputers, so I don't really consider that a "personal computer".

a Dual 2.7 IS within reach of the average computer-lovin' consumer. So.. I could get it.. and it'd be my personal computer...

:D and I downloaded that ad the other day. I love it!! It made me want a PowerMac so much!!

...I either need more computers or some friends. hahaha

I for one think it is a huge compliment and very flattering that Windows Vista is only just now starting to replicate some of Mac OS X's best features...

I for one doesn't want JUST EVERYONE to switch to a Mac. I like the fact is is slightly different, and despite the security / benefits of Mac OS X don't want all those potential troublemakers and hackers, and nasty types to direct their attention fully to Mac OS X.

I for one think it is flattering that people are trying to get Mac OS X onto non Apple hardware...

because I know I'm happy with Mac OS X, the combination of seamless hardware and software integration that Apple achieve, the look, and the complete package.

Can you tell I'm a happy Mac user?

I can just see it; a room full of MS designers all using PBooks and PMac's, trying their best to come up with a program to match osx. All the while, they are spending 100's of hours getting used to the systems and functions turning them over to the macside. MS losses top end employees due to the better mac and their love for it. MS engineers go home every night and boot up their 15" PB and surf the net and make home dvd's, all while sorting music on their itunes, stock widget doing its thing and their little dock icons all hidden on the bottom of the screen. Then when the phone rings they quick hide their PB's and open and oldschool dell inspiron 680 to make it look like they ar doing "research". All of their kids use ipods on the way to school, and emacs in their bedrooms, all with XP clone desktops so they dont ruin the secret by talking about their "dock" or "spotlight" functions to other kids at school.
I bets thats whats happening/happened. All the PC guys started using osx and needed a way to keep their jobs and like their work computers at the same time, so the cloned osx to make themselves feel good. pfff.
