It wasn't so much scorched, more like ash or powder expelled from the phone when it was on fire. It mopped up pretty easy.

Hmm.... not sure I would want to come in contact with that chemical residue... I can't imagine Apple would do anything than simply replace the phone and apologize (unless the fire was due to the person dropping the phone in water and causing a short).

User : I was holding my phone this morning and it started getting really hot. I was walking out of my office it started smoking and became so hot I couldn't hold it, and dropped it where these pictures were taken.

Apple Store : You dropped the phone, causing the damage.

:)

Take it to Apple and don't give it to them until they agree to give you another better phone. That is crazy. Tell them you might send the pics to blogs, etc if you are not made happy.

Tell them it was lightly placed on the floor as it was too hot to touch.

I think the fact that it got so hot it was "like holding a piece of coal" (his words) and smoking indicate something was terribly wrong before he dropped it.

But I see what your saying. :D

lol nice. Good story to tell.

One time my computer monitor died at work and started smoking and caught on fire.

Good thing I was at work........ Or was it? Image

Actually good thing it didn't explode while he was talking on it with phone to the ear. This would have been even worse.

Don't let your friend go to AT&T, they'll not care. Go to Apple directly, it'll be worth the 2 hour drive, as he'll get a new phone for his inconvenience.

It may be refurb iPhone 4, but they may decide to compensate him by offering a 4S at the very least. Deal with Apple and Apple only.

It's AT&T's way of forcing him into an upgrade. Phone self-destructs after the 2 year contract runs out, lol.

I am pretty sure apple will want it back or buy it back and send it to their engineer for evaluation, I will ask for a white iphone5 64gig:D

Actually, Apple might not argue this request. Usually, when something this bad happens to an Apple product, they would rather make the customer extra satisfied than have them try to file a lawsuit, etc.
