Now granted I'm rather new to the game...but I swear to God man some guys seem to be running some kind of hack....where they always know where you are even if its through walls, floors etc Watching the "replay" of what happened sometimes there's no way they could have seen you there....I've also seen other players get grenades thrown at them BEFORE they came into view. Maybe some guys are just pathetically good (you know, don't have any life except for playing) or else there's some kind of cheat going on that I don't know about. Just sayin.'

Some are just that good. Online, once you have enough kills, you get a radar for enemy location I think also. I do believe that some are using aimbots and other hacks to be "that" good. Kind of turns you off of the game online doesn't it?

Can't speak for that game. But I use to be a huge Quake 2 addict back in the day.

When you play a game enough - you learn the maps. I use to get my "lines" down and i'd lodge rockets against walls and throw grenades around corners. Every time you didn't get a kill, but there was that random time someone was right there and walks right into it. You learn where people like to feel like they are safe. So you can go there for a free frag. Etc etc....

I am so sorry that you ran into me.

Yes we know where you spawn. I kill three people with the purpose of getting a UAV. I kill two more for a nice airstrike where your spawn. And with that, two more kills, if you try to run away from me, my helicopter will get you.

Guns do shoot through walls. UAV tells us where to shoot.

yeah i been playing COD4 for 4 weeks now...you eventually learn where to stand/throw grenades...like the map where there is a construction site type building...you go on the second floor and basically you overlook the spawning area of the other team...so you basically just throw grendades and shoot ...and its pretty easy to get the 6 streak etc...and then it becomes that much more easy to keep getting the kill streaks...

As the others have been saying, if you've been playing for a while you know there are places which will give you an advantage on the enemy - and there's random grenade-throwing, the turrets on occasional levels, bullets that go through walls, the ever-loved-and-hated UAV, and so on. I've been killed numerous times by people who couldn't have known I was there, and they didn't - they turn around or get shot and have the Martyrdom perk on, or somesuch.

I havn't played it on the mac, mainly because it came out a full year after the xbox 360 and PS3.

However in saying that I spent way too much time on the game online and have over 100,000 kills.

Trust me, you get to the point you know every inch of every map and every single spawn point and places to throw grenades over buildings because you know people are running a line behind them etc. Like you said some people like myself have no life (well I didn't for a while lol). You start getting huge scores. I have gone 119 for 12 on bog (headquarters), 93 for 18 on vacant (domination), 138 for 38 on shipment (headquarters) etc etc. No cheats, no aim assists or anything like that.

Especially on SD you wanna stay back a bit and not rush right away because people just throw nades and make it rain.

Well..

My mate is the best in Europe at HALO 3 ... "vVv Vard".. and hes in the top 20 of COD4... some people are just seriously good at shoot-em-up games i guess lol!!

Any game with a large and competitive following will have
some cheats. You only need to search on youtube to find
many examples. That said, cod4 is a bastion of honesty
compared to, say, Counter-Strike where cheating is rife.
And if someone does get you with an aimbot, you don't
have to wait for minutes to respawn in cod4, which is nice :)

Actually ya it does to be quite honest. I'll never spend that kind of time to be THAT good nor do I have any interest in hacks whatsoever. I finished the campaign and just wanted to try out the online aspect of it. Not nearly as fun at all. In the game there's some strategy and planning involved...online it just seems like PacMan-eque patterns.

Seriously, if you do get THAT good, how is it ever any fun anymore? Unless it feeds the ego somehow I don't get it.

Is there any "co-operative" online play that goes through campaign like scenerios at all? I've never liked the run around kill 75x type online (Quake) gameplay.

haha, don't be modest or anything:p

and OP you can kill people through walls on COD4, unlike Halo 3.

Ya I knew that. Its just this one time I was up in a building walking around and (after seeing the replay) the guy who killed me was aiming through his ceiling/my floor and wiped me out. There's no way in hell he could have known I was there that I can figure out other than he had some kind of radar or something going on...and I wasn't shooting yet either so I wouldn't have shown up on the screen, I was walking from one room to the other. He knew *exactly* where to shoot and it wasn't like he was spraying the ceiling, it was pretty much a direct shot w/ a machine gun.

Well lets say he had the UAV on his team. He would see an orange dot right on his location, but you werent next to him, so he would assume that you were right above him. So he would shoot up.

If you wait many years till Cod5 gets ported to mac(Or just install boot camp and play it now!) then there is a co-op mode in that where 4 players can play the missions together. It also has something called zombie Nazis where up to 4 of you have to fight off ever increasing zombie hordes from the building you are in, its great fun.

As for the guy knowing where you are, you're forgetting SOUND-you can tell where people are from that.

what gametype were you playing? i'm not a COD4, for lack of a better word, "pro" but i do enjoy playing it, so i don't know if it matters what game you were playing or what to have like the enemy radar through kill streaks or whatnot.

What is that, the radar you can unlock? If so that makes sense.

Good point.

So I take it there's no co-op mode for v.4 then. Too bad, that would be fun.
I'm not going to hold my breath on 5.

I've just joined a few online games (deathmatch & ffa) but haven't explored anything past that yet.

Once you get three kills, you automatically get a UAV which provides radar to every member of your team. You can become invisible from it, but that's not until later levels (one of the unlockables).

I just unlocked the "invisible" option and enabled it...doesn't seem to make a difference. Guys pick me off even if I'm hidden in some bush or just around the corner as if the radar is still picking me up. Of course, I'm really bad so that might be it.

I've gotten good use out of it, but I'll tell you why they can still find you - unless you have a surprised weapon, when you fire they can see your location on the minimap. Easy enough to pinpoint and nail you.

As far as Mac and PC users playing together, I believe they can.

Fair enough, I've been playing long enough now to know how to find people based on the mini-map......that said every now & then someone kills you when you know there's no way they could have seen you or there was no time for them to react and find you.

...do a little search on YouTube and you'll find people using hacks like Aimbot & Wallhack among others.
Known Cheater caught
Wallhack
Aimbot & Wallhack
Colored Wallhack

....just to name a few. Now I have no proof these were used against me in games....I'm just saying there's been some rather peculiar instances....like being hidden in prone in a bush w/o camo on and some guy comes around the corner and tosses a grenade at you...when he couldn't have seen you there and did it all in one motion w/o even looking around.

So are these hacks just for Xbox and PS3 or are they for PC and Mac as well? Do console users play against computer users or are they on different servers?

You can usually tell if someone is just lucky w/ a fluke shot, really that good or cheating when you review on the kill cam. I think its fairly obvious. I haven't witnessed anyone like that Adolf Hitler user who got 108 kills w/ the next closest user had about 30. Either way, cheaters are sad, pathetic losers. You'd think they'd do bug fixes to prevent the cheat codes from working...or do they like how people make cheat codes for their games?

Well, on 360, i played it since release, and yes, as a sniper, i knew where to aim after spawn, as people always run the same way.

Grenades over buildings are easy too, as people always hide in certain corners.

You just learn it naturally, as you play more and more, you figure out how every weapon reacts, and your new to a fairly old game, so its no surprise your getting raped, as the casuals have left (That and your on PC) so its going to be fairly hard to get better when your playing with competition above your level.

Also, There are no Hacks for the Console Games, which is all i have experienced, and i have experienced what you are explaining.

They could also be Sound Whoring, where they can hear you round the corner, ever if your barely moving, reloading, scoping up, everything makes a noise, and some good headphones can let you hear this. Essential for Competitive play.

PC Gamers play with PC Gamers, Ps3 Gamers play with PS3 Gamers, 360 Gamers play with 360 Gamers.

You could also be experiencing lag, and how unaccurate the killcam is, its about half a second slow, so you can watch yourself die when you are round a corner etc. This phenomenon has be called 'Curving Bullets' because Lag makes it seem like they can shoot round corners.

So the hacks are just in the PC versions? According to google there are several console hacks, not sure if they're the big ones or not.

I know what you're saying...and I've gotten better at doing stuff like anticipating; I get kills by blindly throwing grenades in calculated areas. It goes beyond that though. Those videos linked above have nothing to do w/ experience.

I can't wear earphones in this game, even on a volume setting of 1 it gives me ringing in the ears.....is there an option to turn down the explosions and gunfire sounds so you can hear the movement noise more? I gotta say, anyone who has the overall volume loud enough to hear people reloading and walking around on the wood floors is going to have MAJOR hearing issues down the road.
