that ****ing sucks... how much will it cost for me to upgrade my video card?

lol you cant "upgrade" a discrete card. its soldered onto the motherboard. i probably couldnt even point it out to you if i had the mobo right infront of me thats how discrete it is!!

upgrading would cost around $2500 :p (for a MBP)

Im so sorry for you, you cant watch TV or go to the movies because they are too choppy for your taste!

he said enough for the game to run smoothly

with my newer MBP, the game runs like crap. it won't stay at 75+ fps, sometimes dropping down to 30fps. and that's after sacrificing eye candy. but idk maybe that's just because i'm used to playing it on a pc.

Anybody got it running well on one of the old 24" iMacs?

c2d 2.33ghz
2g Ram
7600gt

If the machine can run it at a decent framerate at reasonable graphic settings in multiplayer then i'll buy it!

Why would you want the game generating more frames
per second than your display is capable of showing?

hmm...i wonder that myself. Everyone out there wanting 150/300 fps, does your monitor have a 300hz refresh rate? Cuz normal monitors have 60hz or 75hz... all that extra frame rate going beyond the 60fps won't really show, unless, your LCDs have a 120hz refresh like some of the LCD TVs nowadays. I guess wanting more is always better, to push it to the max just in case a trillion polygons show up at once and pushes your fps from 300 down to 50, then you'll stay afloat at 60fps? If that's the case, ok...

well, here I'm running it on a 20" alum 2.4ghz iMac with the HD2600, I have everything maxed out and I pull around 70-90fps indoors and 30-60 outside. I have yet to see any jittery lag, the game runs like pure butter to me and I have no problems keeping my kill ratio up to par with everyone else, so more isn't better, it's how you play the game ;)

Which demo for benchmarking?

One of my sources sent me some demo files with names like BOG, CRASH, OVERGROWN, AMBUSH, PIPELINE, and STRIKE.

I'm hoping that I can settle upon a "standard" demo file that everyone can use to test and send me their results (for Macs I don't have in the lab).

Meanwhile, I plan to publish some test results on BareFeats.com soon for 1280x800, 1440x900, and 1920x1200 soon for various MacBook Pro and Mac Pro configs at medium and high quality settings.

Cool!

Just out of curiosity.. any chance of trying one of those Psytars with the 9800 GT..?

PLays fine for me though I had to turn down some of the eyecandy

Purchased CoD4 for Mac, and running it on my Mac Pro with 2x 2.66 ghz, and 6gb ram on 1tb sata2 drive. And it runs like poo. I have cs:s on crossovergames and it runs a lot smoother with higher quality. It is a very disappointing purchase. Back to 360 for gaming for me. And crossover for pc games.

cs:s is a much older game, of course it runs better. If you think COD4 runs poorly (running natively) why on earth would you want to run anything modern in crossover rather then bootcamping for the best performance.

Mac G5 Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC

Mac G5 Dual 2.7 GHz Power PC
Mac OS 10.4.11
5 GB DDR SDRam
ATI Radeon 9650

Any chance of playing it on this machine?

Thanks!

I'm running CoD4 on my MacBook with a GMA X3100 at a fairly playable level. Don't know the exact framerate, but it's good enough to be able to play competitively.

I'm just curious. I have the new Alluminum Macbook 2.0Ghz with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M and 2gb RAM...how would this perform in Call of Duty 4? I've read reports saying it would run pretty smoothly, I'd just like to know for sure.

Thanks!

Why don't you read up on some real benchmarks and perhaps upgrade the graphics card.
You listed all the specs that are NOT important, and left out the graphics card.
