Suck on an American nickel for a moment.
That's the aftertaste I get (to a lesser degree).

"To rationalize the off-tastes of the AS, we tested whether they could act on the somatosensory system by targeting TRPV1 receptors. In summary, we found that TRPV1 receptors are activated by both AS and selected metal salts and therefore can have a role in their irritating and metallic aftertaste perceptions."
How strange. We are all different I guess. I enjoyed a Diet Coke with dinner.

RC Cola :)

and Royal Crown

I guess if I have to go coke or pepsi, I'll take a Crown and Coke over a Crown and Pepsi

I'm a fan of RC Cola as well. Unfortunately, once they went to HFCS instead of sugar it lost it's attraction to me. Now that I've developed an allergy to HFCS I can't drink it at all.

Back toward the end of the previous milennium, when I still drank this stuff, I would have answered Dr Pepper. If forced to pick a cola I had a slight preference for Coke.

Today, my preference is for plain water or black coffee (caffine delivery method of choice) with unsweetened tea (preferably iced) as a distant 3rd.

The choice between Coke and Pepsi is subjective and often comes down to personal preference. Both brands offer a range of beverages with different flavors and variations. Some people prefer the taste of Coca-Cola (Coke), while others prefer Pepsi. It ultimately depends on individual taste and which brand's flavor profile appeals to you more.

Regular Coke over Pepsi.
Diet Pepsi over Diet Coke
I like both of the new Zero ones.
I used the love the C2 or whatever it was called and Pepsi Edge ones with less suger but NOOOOOOOO they always discontinue the great product and keep the garbage until the end of time/
In the UK they brought out flavoured Cokes, but only on diet... so disappointing

These days, neither. I'm drinking a plenty of iced tea this summer (made from scratch, with no sweetener). I also like flavored (but unsweetened) sparkling water.

I figure I don't need the chemicals or sugars of soft drinks!

I can't even honestly remember when I last had a soft drink... Apart from having a bit of Mexican Coke (maybe 10 years ago?), I don't know that I've had any major brand soft drink since 1990-something.

My parents bought Pepsi in big glass bottles when I was young (elementary age). We'd have it with popcorn on Friday nights when we watched TV.

I rarely drink soft drinks, but between the two, Coca-Cola and Pepsi, I prefer Pepsi, but only by a slight edge. I do not drink the "diet" versions, just the real thing. Looks as though my instincts about artificial sweeteners are right on the money, as now there are reports about how they aren't healthy for anyone..... Well, DUH.... My body told me that a long time ago both with the chemical aftertaste and the later reaction that I experienced with foods and beverages containing those products. Easy enough to avoid, thankfully.

In general, though, my main beverages of choice are water, coffee and iced tea, along with beer.
