Nobody cares about such a meaningless bit of trivia except you apparently

Your ridiculous assessment of teams/players of the SEC and NFL is seriously flawed

Perhaps, but the easiest way to know for certain would be for the vaunted SEC teams to agree to play up North during the cold months. I'm genuinely curious about how they would do. Honestly, I think they would do better than the spread offenses popular out west, but like I said, there is an easy way to find out.

One other thing. The best SEC coaches were B1G coaches. It's amazing what better weather, a bigger recruiting base, and basically home bowl games can do for ones record.

Really? When was the last time an SEC team won a game when the temperature was below 0 and there was snow?

Mississippi St won a bowl game in Shreveport in the snow back in 2000. It's probably happened since then, but that's the first one that comes to me off the top of my head.

How many B1G teams would be willing to play a nonconference game against an SEC team in November? None.

Nick Saban and..?

  • Les Miles? Nope, Big 12.
  • Steve Spurrier? Nope, ACC/SEC/NFL.
  • Mark Richt? Nope, ACC.
  • Kevin Sumlin? Nope, C-USA.
  • James Franklin? Nope, ACC.
  • Will Muschamp? Nope, Big 12.
  • Dan Mullen? Nope, SEC.
  • Hugh Freeze? Nope, Sun Belt.
  • Gary Pinkel? Nope, MAC (though I will admit the MAC and B1G are virtually indistinguishable in talent, the MAC is way more fun to watch).
  • Urban Meyer? Nope, MWC.
  • Bobby Petrino? Nope, Big East.

I remember the good old days when LSU played Tulane in the last game of the season, alternating from New Orleans (Tulane), to Baton Rouge (LSU), each year. You were either an LSU or Tulane fan, never both! The A&M thing sounds like fun!

I would be great if the state of Louisiana had more than one decent football team. Way too much talent in that state (and its neighbors) to just support one good program.

A&M and LSU opened the season against one another for much of the 80s and 90s and have a long history of playing each other. It's going to be fun to see the rivalry really take root again and grow into something bigger in the coming years.

Roll Tide... pulling for the Tide again this year...well actually every year, but here is hoping for another great year!!!

Hoping "Big Blue" finally beats those pesky kids from Ohio.... :)

Maybe. They are consistently a good team as of late, but the issue is the SEC rarely plays anyone outside their conference that is a contender. So that bids the question "how good is the SEC in reality"? We don't really know. What we do know is an average Big 12 team (A&M) looked very good in the SEC last year.

With that said it is hard to pick against the SEC. I can't see the PAC doing anything (but hope I am wrong) to compete until they start taking D seriously. And the Big 12 has been weaker than normal (How can a school like UT not get a QB?). So it is hard to know, but I am sure we with the SEC schools playing South Central Northern East-side Kentucky State that it will still be hard to know who is king.

Agreed. Saban is an all-timer. If he decides to hang it up in the next couple of years, or try his hand at the NFL again, do you envision the Tide going after a big name or elevating Kirby Smart

It depends on whether Kirby Smart stays around with the hope/understanding that he'll get the top job when Saban steps down in a few years. Given the way Saban does things, I suspect that succession planning has been in the works for some time. But if there's any uncertainty, Smart may get an offer than he can't refuse from another college before the time comes.

I believe he has been told he has the BAMA coach job..

Really?

Alabama gets Va Tech
Georgia gets Clemson
Florida gets Florida State and Miami
South Carolina gets Clemson
LSU gets TCU
Tennessee gets Oregon
Mississippi State gets Oklahoma State
Ole Miss gets Texas
Kentucky gets Louisville

AS much as I think the SEC is overrated; they are merely on a hot streak while other conferences are down; I can't help but give them credit for scheduling much better out of conference games than some of the other conferences.

Edit - but for every one SEC team that has scheduled a tough out of conference game, there is a team from another conference scheduling with the SEC

Johnny Manziel susptended for 1 half...

The NCAA decided to ignore the allegations, and the overwhelming circumstantial evidence, and gave Johnny Football a one half suspension.

The guy signed 4400 autographs with professional autograph dealers, out of the goodness of his heart? Come on.

Yes really.

Check out Alabama's great national championship season last year and their OOC games:

Michigan - Had 5 losses
W. Kentucky - Sunbelt
Florida Atl -Sunbelt
W. Carolina - Don't even know who they are

I think the NCAA rules are a joke and he shouldn't have been suspended for any amount of time.

Edit: Holy crap that was a fast banning.

Michigan is one of the perennial B1G Powers and was ranked #8 in the preseason
It was considered a heavy weight matchup at the time of scheduling

Re: Poll

The suspension is fair. - It's fair only because the NCAA does not have real proof.

The suspension isn't nearly enough. - The suspension isn't nearly enough because in no way did Manziel volunteer his time to sign thousands of autographs and not profit off it. A kid frustrated with a lack of personal time/space and family frustrated about everyone but Manziel profiting off the memorabilia wasting hours doing pro-bono signings? Surrrrrrre.

A&M should be put onto probation and Manziel lose his eligibility. - If they can establish a paper trail to the crime, for sure.

The NCAA needs to revise its rules. - Clearly. The NCAA is so reckless and inconsistent with their suspensions. See: Dez Bryant or AJ Green compared to Manziel. It's absurd. They are lacking in common sense

Who cares, all the teams in the SEC cheat. All try to bend the rules, only a few cheat (probably).

The NCAA should suspend itself for being hypocrites. They make billions every year off these players risking their lives and health. It's big business and the players deserve compensation.

I don't give a flying **** about college football. I just think it's ridiculous that only the NCAA is allowed to make money off a player's name.
I was referring to who banned that dude being a bama fan.:p

I think the NCAA are a bunch of hypocrites, they will sell these kids likenesses to the highest bidder but not allow them to make a buck.

Just call college football what it is, NFL minor leagues.

Right, at the time of scheduling it looked like it might be a good game, and then we find throughout the season that it was not a good win, and that Alabama played no one yet again.

Don't get me wrong Alabama is a great team, and I am not trying to take anything away from the conference you like, but if you are on the outside looking in this can be the perception of some of us.

Good luck to your team (Georgia?) as I hope they have a great year.

P.S.
Best game ever....2007 Michigan Wolverines vs. Appalachian St. Mountaineers. 34-32 win for Appalachian St. :D

In on 2013 thread. Hotty Toddy and Go Dawgs!

Image

Boo.

I am biased, though. I have a sweet spot for academic schools with athletic success. I would almost always root for a team like Vandy, Northwestern, or Stanford. Not ND, though, they're typically too arrogant (like Michigan fans) to support.

The Dawgs should have a solid offense
Returning OL and experienced QB with outstanding RBs
The WRs should be very good as well, even though they are lesser known

The defense is unproven and needs to step up from last year's squad that had their issues, especially with the run, even though they had high NFL draft picks

The first 2 games, Clemson and South Carolina will set the tone, along with LSU in week 4

Many pick a Dawg and Tide rematch in the SEC Title Game
Would love a shot to make that last play of the game again

We will be pulling for them Dawg's and BAMA today!

I voted for the SEC option because the SEC is made up of five things

Football
Texas A&M Academics
Vanderbilt Academics
Oversigning
Kentucky Basketball
