I bought mine in mid June about 2 weeks ago and haven't regretted it. If something new and amzing comes out cool. But I'm happy with my MBP even if it is the last before the design change, and I don't doubt it will still be relatively up to date for at least the next year or two.

Montevina is the least important aspect of the Montevina MBPs for me, it's the GPU, the case and the possibility of Blu Ray that I'm in it for. And I'd sacrifice both of the latter two for a decent of the former too..

Blu ray? not going to happen. Apple would first release Blu ray in the mac pros and the fact the Blu ray sucks. Flash movies=future. remember that. I am waiting until the last day of the summer discount and then buying. Whatever is out is out and that is what i am buying.

BluRay is definitely going to happen. Though Apple like the whole "Flash Movies" thing with Apple TV, they are still going to put a BluRay drive into their computers. It is the next DVD format and Jobs will not keep SD-DVD drives in the Macs. They're old technology. EVENTUALLY, BluRay will be in there.

me too. I have a strange feeling that the b2s deal will come and go without Montevina. And right now iI'm not sure if the bump will be worth losing the free ipod

Damn that's what I'm worried about... new Montevina MBP I want to buy with no back to school Nano iPod :(

I really hope it's released before September, both so I can get it before school starts (Aug 25th) and so i can get my Nano. What do you think?

ha and sorry the smileys don't seem to work on my work computer. No pun intended. I realize how douchey I just sounded.

It would at least benefit you to wait until the last couple of weeks, besides, you should be out partying with the friends you wont' see again rather than playing on your new awesome computer all summer :)

I think you're dumb for getting the nano over the ipod touch.

I was going to get nano because I run a lot (like 5 miles a day) and it's a flash drive, and smaller/lighter... then I looked and iPod touch is flash too... hmm. I guess ill go with touch; I always assumed it was a regular hard drive inside like the classic iPod.

Anyway... do you think I will be able to get either with the b2s promotion or will MBP be updated after?

Yeah I figured you probably ran or something. I wasn't serious. I just look forward to having the ipod touch (already own a nano).

Centrino 2 gets released 1 week today. Based on Apple's usual delay to release the latest technology, I'd say we'll see them early august but maybe sooner. Buy when you need it just to get the special though. In my opinion it's worth it and you get the free printer. You can always sell your book on ebay and buy a new one in a year or two.

I bought my macbook immediately after the penryn update, I feared that the WWDC keynote would introduce a new macbook (that was before I had it).
Now 3,5 (or something) months later and new to mac, I have no doubt in my mind that this was the best thing I've ever bought. I know for sure I won't regret it if there is a new macbook released next month.

so :apple: 4 live!!

Bare in mind Centrino 2 has been delayed a few weeks, so perhaps we can knock that off Apple's usual "4 weeks after processor is released" tradition.

You know I wouldn't put money on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an announcement on the 14th.

I'm waiting until there is SOME update. If it is dramatic I will buy it, if not then I will get a deep discount on a 2.5GHz (I believe it's a brilliant MBPro).

Ya, apple was probably preparing for the chipset to be finished last month. So hopefully this has given them time to get everything in order for the next month.

Yup. me too ;)

I agree with all these rumors about it being earlier than later. Most of the competitors will be selling Centrino 2 right around the 14th. Apple will probably be right there or shortly thereafter.

I would rather the upgrades take longer and maybe we will see some design polishing (magnetic latch) for the next revision. That is the only thing I think needs changed on the MBP, because i think it would fix a lot of the screen warping issues by having the screen pulled down evenly along the edge.

I'm a college student attending my first year this fall. I will probably pickup a base model MacBook in a few weeks.

I may opt and buy a current model MacBook instead of a rumoured new version if theres issues on reliability etc. on the new models.

Base Model? Might as well get 1299 one. As far as I know the base model doesn't even have a superdrive.

I'm going to wait until mid- to late-August. At that point, if new updates aren't out or imminent, then I'll buy a current model. Chances are that Apple will wait until after the Back to School Promotion to update any of their computers. By doing this, they can "get rid" of as many of the current models as possible before introducing new ones. Also, it makes sense for them to wait a good bit after July 14th because the iPhone 3G will have just been released. In addition, it's worth considering that Apple will probably update the iPods in early fall. Thus, I don't expect a laptop update until November (right before holiday season).

Why would the iPhone and iPod affect MBP sales? Why would someone buy a Pro laptop with an 8600M GT? Why would Apple wait for 5 months to compete with every other note book manufacturer with Montevina models?

New MBPs are September at the very very latest.

I can wait a month or two longer for Montevina. I don't have an immediate need for a laptop just yet, and I don't see a reason to buy something that is so close to being updated. However, if it isn't updated before the iPod promotion is over, I will likely give in to get the free Touch (which is going to be a gift for somebody special :D).

If releases of different products are spread out, then Apple prevents any sort of competition between its own products. While this may seem unrealistic, it does exist.

Your point about the five-month delay is a good one. However, the July 14th release is apparently just an initial update. According to this article, we won't see the low-power Montevina version until the fall. If this is true, then Apple may wait for later versions to put in the laptops.
