How many hours do you attend school in a week? And how many hours do you work a day and throughout a week?

The honest answer is you just do it. The last two years I averaged maybe 23 units and went 7am to 10pm MWF with an hour break. The other days I worked construction from 6am to 3. Also had marriage and daughter during this and worked on the side on Tues/Thurs at night giving the GED.

I'm in my 4th year.. got 1-2 more semesters to go depending on if i can get all the classes I want next semester. It would have been 1 semester but the douche bag department head screwed me out of the last class I need to complete my major.

Right now I'm taking 12 credits.. 2 classroom classes, 2 web. I have 1 75 minute class a day (MW 12:20-1:35, TR 11:00-12:15) and two web classes (which have like 1 hour of work every 2 weeks). I wish I could be working like 20-25 hours a week but I'm trying to find a job right now.. so far no luck.

Mostly I just want to get out of here. Im sick of paying thousands of dollars to this **** school and getting absolutely nothing out of it. I wish it wasn't too late to transfer.

what do you mean by "work"?

i spent quite a few relationships maintaining a relationship at that time. That was alot more difficult and time consuming than manual labor.

Many college administrations suck and make the whole school seem terrible and not close to its reputation (Cal comes to mind with no help from the Govenator) actually forcing UC to cut classes and majors mid stream and not paying on commitments made earlier hurting the entire UC system. Even GOP students there were out getting arrested angry at the former actor turned govenator. ;)

But anyway, congrats on your college experience. Years down the line, you will likely remember the good points and the bad stuff will fade away.

You know the thing in where you do something and then you're compensated for it. Work. Try it sometime.

As for me, I had anywhere between 15-20 hours of school and ~40 hours/wk at my job. And of course, time to party :D

I currently have 15 credit hours and work about 30 hours a week. I probably spend an extra 10 hours a week on schoolwork. It takes some planning for me, but I always turn in my work ontime. I'm just happy its spring break so I can sleep a little;)

55 hours, and maybe 60
and you still have time to party? Hey, there's nothing wrong with blowing off steam, but when do you sleep? ;) You gotta take it easy, really.

Anyway, Google Dr. Daniel Amen, M.D.

Sleep is probably the most important thing for a healthy body and and healthy mind, as well as living longer and healthier. When he was a doctor, doing doctor duties, and then some from his own iron will, he slept very little. When he had his brain scanned, in the middle of being the hardest working doctor, he had the brain of an 80+ plus year old man yet he was a young man. Not somebody I would want attending to me.

In the UK, my first year of uni was 36 hours of lectures a week, second year was about 30, third year 20 or less.

No time to work, because all my time outside lectures was taken up with assignments.

Trust me, nothing came in the way of me getting sleep :D

Paralegal Major
Criminal Justice Major

I go to school right now about 12 hours a week, but next semester I will be going 16.

Just remember that 15 hours doesn't translate into 15 hours of class... For example: Last semester I took 16 hours, was only in class 14 1/2.

Work depends on so many variables, including, but not limited too:
-Efficiency
-Frequency
-Classes being taken
-Will Power
-Focus

12 credit hours, ~ 19hrs of actual class time not including any breaks and travel time. I got a new job, so now i'm only working 10-20 hrs a week. Previously I was working 25-30 hours on average.
I'm a Nutrition Science major applying for med school this summer and studying for the MCAT right now as well. I volunteer 3 hrs every week.

My advice if you are just going into college: buy books used and online, get organized at the beginning of the semester, and find places to study at school where you aren't distracted. Also, look for jobs that allow you to study. They do exist, you just have to continually search.

Graphic Design and Photography double major with minor in Marketing and Art History.

I've completed most coursework (125 credit hours) except my Graphic Design and Marketing courses, so I max out at 12 hours per week (can't take any more as there aren't any other classes to take and would be a waste of money).

When I have all studio classes my hours per week in class are 24, as they are 2hr classes 3 times a week or 3hr classes 2 times per week. A couple semesters ago I had 5 studio classes, 15 credit hours, weighing in at 30 hours of total time in class. This semester I am fortunate enough to only have 2 studio classes plus a marketing class and art history. So my total per week is 18 hours in class. Sound confusing? It can be, as an art / design major.

Those totals don't even come close to what I spend outside of class though. Working on projects is usually 2-3 times what it takes working on them in class. Final projects can be massive, requiring 60-80 hours sometimes. Though I'm kind of a perfectionist (I try), so my results may be a bit exaggerated. Lots of outside work is required.

As for work, I do freelance so I can pretty much set my schedule, though I do have one client who has me on semi-retainer (its complicated), and I average 15-20 hours per week from them when I want it, but at a rate much below my $50/hr standard fee.

Hah, and people think its a piece of cake being an art major. I just laugh when I hear that. It seems like I hear that the most from business majors, but they are the ones that are always partying it up where I go to school.

Another fun piece of trivia: you don't have to be poor as an artist, especially if you're a designer. You just have to find a market.

I'm just crashing down all sorts of stereotypes!

Last year I did a lot more school (15 or so credits, a lot of classroom time), and worked about 20 hours a week on top of that. Then I got a concussion, and I'm down to 12 credits, which turns into 8 hours of classroom time, plus some online stuff, and no job. Concussions suck big time, especially when you realize you're failing a media crit class

Mine was something like 25 hours/week in class (1 hour/class - language degree, I had a lot of classes)

You then for each individual class you spent another, say, min. 3 hours per week on an assignment for the next week's class.

Plus a part time job. I loathed university. Always stressed, always miserable, never learning enough. I'm meant to be going back in September, I'm still undecided about that.
