I sold my stainless series 3 a year ago and am thinking about picking up an 8. Am I in the minority that dislikes starlight and midnight, prefer silver and space grey? We'll see how much the non-aluminum models cost, may grab red if too much $$$.
Everybody and their mom thought the $399 S7 color options very either acceptable, unimpressive or terrible. Nobody preferred them over past color options. Even many media pundits criticised them.

And that's exactly what Apple was going for -All the "watch-like" classy options start at $699.

I don't know if you are in the minority, but if so I am too.
I found starlight too much beige/gold/yellow and it made all the white/gray/black bands I had over the year look mismatched. Same with the midnight vs space gray and my blackish bands. It was like wearing navy jacket with black pants. But I'll admit even though I have bad eyes (both far and nearsighted) I do have a high color acuity and a bit of OCD. So I passed on both.

I'll probably get a 8 if they bring back Silver in Aluminum.
Then you won't get an 8. Well, at least not if you budget max is $399.

In my opinion Apple needs to get better at color choices. The green here is more of a green-that's-afraid-to-be-green, and "starlight" is a gold-that's-afraid-to-be-gold, and midnight is a black-that's-afraid-to-be-black. Only red and blue really embrace being a color. Sad that they released some underwhelming options with the S7 and seem to have learned the lesson that people don't like color, instead of learning that people don't like all these colors.

still struggling to see a reason to upgrade from the 4
The 4 was my first AW. When I bought it, some folks on here were upgrading from their S0 watch, noting it was only really battery life that was a *must* upgrade with the redesign that year tipping many over into Buy.

The S4 tech has held up amazingly well, and I expected the 8 to be the first real time I’d take a serious look at upgrading. I think 2020 may have extended that to the 9, depending on what the revealed specs and features are like.

I know it’s only a rumor, but it makes sense to eliminate green. Green? For a watch?

And eliminating silver for the 7? Who thought that was a good idea. Wrist watches have come in silver and gold colored alloys since the beginning of watches…

I ended up with the green after seeing it in person at Costco. It's not glaring green at all, almost a midnight green if there is such a thing. Anyways, I like the green color a lot more than the blue Series 6 I had.

You are most certainly not in the minority of people that don’t like starlight in midnight, (that actually care about about good design and color matching).

The colors match far fewer other colors (bands, clothing, etc.) than black/graphite and silver.

Starlight and Midnight make such terrible watch casing colors because they don’t even match the hardware colors on Apple’s own bands. I love my Space Gray S4 with a Space Gray Milanese loop but this isn’t a choice for the S7. Don’t get me started on the cheap plastic pieces on the sport loop. (The Space Gray is a pretty easy color to match with third party bands too, which is probably why they removed it 🙃) They’re basically forcing you into getting a sport band/loop or leather link, which are fine options but seems really limiting.

Sad! Well, sad if true. Green was the best color they introduced last year. If accurate, they seem to be on a personal vendetta against me, eliminating every color I'd want in the Aluminum models.

I think they admitted this at the end of the article, just phrased a little differently. :p
Agree. Love the green color on the watch and on the iPhone. Hot color in the fashion industry now, so not sure why you would get rid of it.

They like to make the bands cross compatible to new/old generations, but what good is it to have a collection of blue bands - sport, braided solo etc. Now no blue watch. That's hundreds down the drain if you upgrade.

I built a strap collection around my space black Nike Apple Watch.

I chose natural tones - black, white, khaki, grey...

...all of which look like total trash next to 'midnight' (geriatric navy).

Space grey is a standard, neutral tone.

I'm so ****ed off that Apple killed it.

Indeed. Many just see midnight and starlight simply as grey and silver replacements.

They don't see the subtle hues that makes them more difficult to match.
Bring back space grey!

Why do you need aluminum to be a color? Use colored bands and screens. They obviously have trouble giving away the green cus it’s always on sale
