Beware that Comcast Xfinity has the malpractice to charge you for rental fees every now and then, even though you own your modem, therefore those customer that own their modem and aren't paying attention to their monthly bills (auto payment or charge to credit card) do not notice it and get billed the extra fees. They always find a way to mess up your billing to have you to call them and request a "change to your services" thought their nice customer service waiting phone touch tone nightmare.

After you purchased your modem. Were you able to cancel rental fee? I have just installed a Comcast modem with a year lease rental?

Yep! Just had to drop it off at a Comcast location, and I made sure I got a receipt. About $12 less/month, so I broke even in like 3-4 months (I want to say I paid around $40-ish back in March), now I'm on the positive side about $60 and I own it.

That's exactly why a receipt of the return transaction is important. In fact, a buddy never got the fee removed he was supposed to, wound up stopping by an office with his receipt, got fully credited for the modem lease.

Why are you forced to rent from Comcast. I don't think they can force you to rent theirs.
I was not forced. Originally I did a online black friday deal and I made the mistake of choosing to lease the modem for a year. $39 - 12 month 75mbps - $10 a month modem lease.

I did this swap out in the not so distant past myself. Comcast Completely rips you off. It wasn't more than a couple years ago that the modem wasn't more than $6. Then they sneak the bill up to $12.

They haven't screwed up my bill yet... Aside from the fact they have never been able to mail me a bill despite my best attempts and all of the online bills are addressed to a guy named Peter C. despite that obviously not being my account name.
