Aspyr today released classic Command & Conquer game Command & Conquer: Generals Deluxe Edition in the Mac App Store, letting fans of the title play the game on modern Macs for the first time in years. The Mac App Store bundle includes the original Command & Conquer: Generals game and the Zero Hour expansion pack.

First released in 2003, Command & Conquer: Generals stands apart from other games in the series because it takes place in the near future, and features the United States, China, and the fictional Global Liberation Army terrorist group.

The new version of the game available in the Mac App Store has been optimized for modern Macs, with support for Retina displays and the 5K Retina iMac. While it does offer multiplayer support for up to four players, the Mac App Store version of Command & Conquer: Generals is not multiplayer compatible with the original Mac release or the original PC release.
In a time of modern war, recent military aggressions around the globe have many nations worried. Between the United States, China, and the Global Liberation Army, tensions run high. Their leaders profess no interest in escalating the situation, but words ring hollow when satellite photos tell a different story.
Minimum system requirements include 2.2GHz CPU speed, 4GB RAM, and 5GB disk space. The following graphics cards are the minimum supported: (ATI): Radeon HD 3870, (NVidia): GeForce 330M, (Intel): HD 3000, 256 MB VRam.

Command & Conquer: Generals Deluxe Edition can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. [Direct Link]

Any chance this will come to origin? I own it on origin, but I can only download it for Windows...

This was an instabuy for me. I love this game too and couldn't be happier to see it and Zero Hour in the MAS. It's a little laggy at native resolution on my 2012 27-inch though.

Yea I'm with the above poster: bring on Red Alert please. Heck, bring the entire C&C franchise over!

This has been out on Origin for a couple of years now as part of the C&C Ultimate Collection. Of course it's not the "Deluxe Edition" so I don't think it supports 5K resolution.

Edit: sorry I misread your post. Aspyr's FAQ just states it won't come out for Steam. Not sure about Origin on Mac. Aside from anything that starts with "Sim" in the title, Origin support for Mac just flat out sucks.

I was just debating buying this the other day and realised it didn't work...may have to now.

I love that a game released in 2003, whose minimum specs of the time were quite low (it ran on Windows 98!) it's amazing how high the current specs are. I mean, the original Mac version came out before the Mac had switched to Intel, so you'd think the first-gen Intel Macs would be able to handle it!

That's disappointing. A really old game on relatively new hardware. You'd think it could get 60fps.

Really, I always wonder the same thing. Whenever stuff is re-released, it suddenly requires a brand new computer despite being very similar to the old version. Like AoE II HD and Photoshop.

Generals and Generals Zero Hour.

One of the best RTS games ever released.

Too bad that Electronic Arts couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag in broad daylight, and managed to bungle every single successful game series they had.

Generals II went to beta a could years ago... and then got abruptly cancelled, and all there programmers working on it fired, demoted, or reassigned.

Yeah, I bought that collection. Unfortunately, no mac support...even though there is a mac version of CNC generals and tiberium wars. It's a shame I have to reboot into windows just to play them.

Technically the so-called "Mac" version of Tiberium Wars was just the Windows version running under WINE. Most of the C&C games run fine with WINE, so you can play them that way without having to reboot.

It says multiplayer. Is it cross platform play with Windows players who have the game?

----------

Nevermind. Found info elsewhere

"Multiplayer functionality is supported via Game Center for up to four Mac App Store players. Keep in mind that multiplayer is not possible with other non-Mac App Store versions, regardless of platform (this includes the original Mac release of the game and the Windows version)."

this was the only game i ever played on my PC. Then when I pitched the PC for the mac i stopped playing games. now mostly play on the ipad some basic games like clash of clans. I will certainly try this out. I loved the game and was sad that EA had mostly killed it. Glad to see it back.

I assume this has a skirmish mode. Can anyone confirm this? :)

Confirmed, all C&C games except Tiberium Dawn have a skirmish mode.

They don't work so well these days on the newer versions of OS X ... so many graphics glitches, really slow to load up :( It was at the point that running C&C in Parallels with only 1/2 the CPUs and 1/4 of the RAM was actually smoother than the Mac 'port' (though that's giving EA a lot of credit).

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im SOOO HAPPY!! hopefully they will fix the random bugs also!! and who says Macs arent for gaming :p

Awesome! I can't wait to get home to download this!!! Very excited.

I was one of the software testers for Zero Hour in my first job out of university. It brings back brilliant memories working for EA Games. :D
