Bit poor that you can't scroll around with the trackpad, unless I'm missing something.

Graphics obviously look a bit dated now but not awful and it's really about gameplay anyway.

I don't really game much at all, but this was one game that I really enjoyed back in the day.

Purchased and installing now! :)

I love that a game released in 2003, whose minimum specs of the time were quite low (it ran on Windows 98!) it's amazing how high the current specs are. I mean, the original Mac version came out before the Mac had switched to Intel, so you'd think the first-gen Intel Macs would be able to handle it!

This also really annoys me. Unless they completely remastered all of the in-game art assets (which I doubt), I really couldn't imagine this needing such high system requirements.

Then again, one wonders if this was derived from the code base of the old Universal Binary patch for the original release of C&CG, which was infamous for being buggy and unstable, in addition to having poor, laggy performance on anything less than a Mac Pro.

Can we just have a re-release of C&C Red Alert in the App Store please.

I have so many good memories of Red Alert multiplayer with my mates in my younger days. I am tempted to buy this. Then again, that would be silly when Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection includes 17 games and costs less than this and I already have Bootcamp.

Code:
Command & Conquer
Command & Conquer The Covert Operations
Command & Conquer Red Alert
Command & Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike
Command & Conquer Red Alert The Aftermath
Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun
Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun Firestorm
Command & Conquer Red Alert 2
Command & Conquer Red Alert Yuri’s Revenge
Command & Conquer Renegade
Command & Conquer Generals
Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Command & Conquer 3 Kane’s Wrath
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Uprising
Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight

Awesome! I can't wait to get home to download this!!! Very excited.

I was one of the tests for Zero Hour in my first job out of university. It brings back brilliant memories working for EA Games. :D

Well you could have done a better job as the game was extremely buggy! and would often crash with the random Narnia error that did not give you any information.

Please don't apply for any more testing jobs in the future, you ruined my life.

Does this game have any online support?

Can this be played cross-platform with the PC Version? Even better, can this version connect to the Revora servers?

I swear to God, this is one of the all-time best PC games ever made. I recently started playing again (on PC). The first day I got back into it, I think I played 12 hours straight :D

Played for 30 mins! wont play again...

Scrolling doesn't work, you need to hold right click down to scroll.
You cant change credits
You cant limit SW
Multiplayer is Game Center Invite only
LAN Game doesn't work

I would try and find more but ill stick to bootcamp to run this game!

Rubbish

Love this game too, but...

Love this game too, but that was when it first came out, I cannot play it now on my NEW iMac (2014). Apparently there is an issue, all I get when trying to launch the game is "This game will not run on this Mac.":(

Looking into what my options are but not hopeful.

With the trackpad you have to move to the screen edge to scroll in that direction. Not great.

I don't know what the 2nd two points mean.

Had a few problems like cursor being the wrong type (no entry sign) for no apparent reason, so you can't select anything. Also lost the mini map at least once.

They don't work so well these days on the newer versions of OS X ... so many graphics glitches, really slow to load up :( It was at the point that running C&C in Parallels with only 1/2 the CPUs and 1/4 of the RAM was actually smoother than the Mac 'port' (though that's giving EA a lot of credit).

The version of WINE they used for the "port" back then is obviously quite a few years old at this point, so you can use something modern like Wineskin or Crossover to run the Windows version.

Really, I always wonder the same thing. Whenever stuff is re-released, it suddenly requires a brand new computer despite being very similar to the old version. Like AoE II HD and Photoshop.

It doesnt necessarily require a new rig. The only reason that requirements get updated like that is because the publisher (in this case us) is selecting the minimum requirements in terms of commonly available hardware that can run current OS's and more importantly for this game GameCenter. If we listed the old stuff, you wouldnt be able to run Mavericks or Yosemite on those computers, so it would be a moot point.

Not everyone wants to boot up into bootcamp. I saw that collection also but then again I have almost all the games still in a box but not going to stop me from buying this so I can play on modern Mac without bootcamp.

You are able so set the starting credits on the pc version and old mac version but the standard now is 10000 and you cant change that.

You also cant limit super weapons in multiplayer.

The game is a disaster.

Downloaded it and I love it! Only thing is I can't work out how to create unit groups!

On a PC it was CTRL+{number}, but that doesn't work on this version. Any ideas???

I've tried CMD,Option,CTRL,SHIFT but nothing... :(

That's disappointing. A really old game on relatively new hardware. You'd think it could get 60fps.

Yea it is disappointing. After playing it some more, it definitely dips to below 30fps when showing some cutscenes, particularly close up shots. Framerate is perfectly fine during gameplay though, however it's still not at 60fps.

One thing I'm having issues with is the menu bar consistently pops up when you have to move the mouse up to the top of the screen to scroll the map up, resulting in an annoying split second hiccup while the menu bar animates. The same goes with any hot corners, which I had to disable to play this game.

And what I keep finding myself actually trying to do instinctively use my touch scrolling on my Magic Mouse to try and scroll through the map. I'd love for Apsyr to add this to the Mac version in a future update if possible. I think this would be much more intuitive way to control the game rather than having to drag your mouse from edge to edge, which was probably fine back then, but could definitely be improved with today's Apple input devices.

Value for money

Two weeks ago I bought the C&C collection 17 games in amazon.com, digital download, for 5$. I know that right now the price is 20$, but it seems it's an offer that exists from time to time. I bought another digital download 2 months ago for 5$

For 5$ I get to play all the CnC.On windows, wine or parallels of course. If this game doesn't include any new graphics assets for 5K... does it deserve the money?

Rebooting on windows with an ssd takes 10s

Ctrl+num works, here anyway, think all the old key combos are the same.

I've tried re-installing but nothing. Same problem. Maybe a keyboard problem?

If I can't get this working, the game is useless.

Either way, I've seen the offer from Amazon for just £10 for all 17 games! £5 cheaper than the App Store and 15 more games on top. The only issue is I have to faff about with bootcamp and reboot every time I want to play which is a bit ridiculous.....also wasting space on my SSD with Windows.

Any more fixes / suggestions to make this work?

One of The Best!

I used to love playing this. In fact, I love all the C&C games from the very beginning. Of course, C&C was only really C&C when it was owned by Westwood. As soon as EA bought it, like they do with everything else, they destroyed it. SimCity ring a bell? Oh well, at least I can still play some of my old favorites.
Tiberium Wars ftw! :D

I was so exicted CnC generals finally came to the mac natively. After a month or so playing the game, for hours on end, i have noticed a few bugs. The main issue for me the game failed to load from a saved copy, which meant i either had the finish the current mission, or start toally over, this was for the solo campaigns, the skirmishes worked fine. The second issue is with the scrolling, eery tme i scroll left with the track pad, the screens then keeps scrolling left, this usally happens during pivotal moments during the game, such as when 5 overload tanks come strolling by, or after a sneak attack.

I decided to try Aspyr tech support, what a cardinal error that was. not only did the chat clnet hang up on me several times, when i finally managed to speak to somebody [Steven] they were not only useless, but actualy quite rude!
I think I will be asking apple for a rfund, shame, I love the game, even with the minor bugs, but the customer services is atrocious. Aspyr tech support makes PC world seem like a cusomer services nirvana!

Overall good game and port, needs some major bugs and issues resolved, and Aspyr should stop treating their customers like an unwanted stepchild.

Aspyr today released classic Command & Conquer game Command & Conquer: Generals Deluxe Edition in the Mac App Store, letting fans of the title play the game on modern Macs for the first time in years. The Mac App Store bundle includes the original Command & Conquer: Generals game and the Zero Hour expansion pack.

First released in 2003, Command & Conquer: Generals stands apart from other games in the series because it takes place in the near future, and features the United States, China, and the fictional Global Liberation Army terrorist group.

Now that it is 2020 and I am just finding this post and really want to play this on the mac. Does anyone know why it is not available anymore.

So so so dangerous.......I was a software tester at EA Games back in 2003, and C&C Generals: Zero Hour was the first title I tested. I also remember my first day at the studios.....playing Generals for 12 hours straight and getting paid for it! Those were the days!!!!
