I just wanted to comment about the rumors regarding the possibility of a new iPad.
After reading many comments, just wondering why many people can't believe Apple will roll out a new iPad this fall?

If you think about it, a new iPad (& new iPhone) MUST happen before Christmas.

AT&T & Rogers (in Canada) are both rolling out LTE networks this fall. Do those who doubt really think Apple will allow another tablet or phone get ahead in tech specs right before Christmas?
    Really?
iPad & iPhone 4 are not LTE compatible. Droid phones and tablets are ready....http://engt.co/dUcwGy

They have to update iPad at least with LTE capable specs and Mr. Jobs will not pass up the opportunity to explain what iPad LTE is capable of compared to the iPad 2 on 3G.

Also, it makes more sense to bring an HD or hi-res iPad if bandwidth was available...and this fall, it is.

    What do you think?

I honestly just don't see why when the iPad 2 is still selling so well and they still can't even keep up with demand on it yet Apple would release another iPad in the fall.

They don't need a new iPad for the holidays as long as this one is still in high demand

They could release a pro iPad with high res, but I think there's not mich point. Just keep outselling
Competitors and put it in iPad three, with lte and whatever else...and avoid pissing off customers.

They didn't "need" a new iPad before last Christmas, so why should they "need" one before this Christmas?

I don't think they *have* to release an iPad before Christmas, but I also think much of the negativity boils down to this: so many proud owners of the iPad2 will no longer have the latest and greatest.

I think you could have expressed your opinion in one of the several threads about this topic.

You really think apple needs to release a whole new product just because one country is rolling out a new network? What about the rest of the planet? Even if Apple does plan to release an LTE iPad, there's no hurry, it's not like the 3G network is going to be switched off tomorrow

Yes, making a new thread when there are already numerous thread about it is completely unnecessary.

The carriers are planning on rolling out LTE this fall, hell they haven't even finished rolling out 4G yet...lol. Speculation is funny but it ain't gonna concern me until 1. they actually announce it 2. it actually hits the shelves 3. if points 1and 2 are covered they put it out with a price that makes financial sense and won't piss off the millions that just shelled out $$$ for the iPad 2.

anyways the other rumor is that the world will end in 2012 anyway...

I'm not convinced the iPad 2 is in high demand. My local Target's case is full of them. I asked a clerk there how well they were selling. "2 this month so far." was her answer.

Releasing a new iPad so soon after the iPad 2 was released sounds apologetic, like sorry guys this last one wasn't up to specs. Not very Apple-like

No chance they bring out two products at the same time. You can't promote one as well as you would with just one.

That's anecdotal and not reliable information. iPad 2 is still selling like crazy, and analysts are saying the trend will continue through the holidays. The quarterly earnings are coming up soon and will prove this point. I see iPad 2's in stock at Target as well, and I am thinking that now that supply has caught up with demand a little bit, people are not scouring the globe for available iPads anymore and Target may not be the first place they think of when they go shopping for one. Hell, I ordered mine right from my iPhone using the Apple Store app.

It looks to me like the evidence is increasingly pointing to no new iPad this fall. I think sometimes the tech journalism industry sees a manufacturer ramping up touch screen production or coming up with new technology and they immediately associate this with Apple readying a new product for launch. Some of the iPad 2 refresh rumors seem to have been spawned by Apple shopping for new manufacturing partners and also by some other companies coming up with new technologies for large touch screens.

Sometimes rumors feel right and sometimes they feel wrong. The fall iPad 3 rumor doesn't feel right. It would be highly illogical given the current sales trend of iPad 2 and the fact that it would piss off a lot of customers who bought iPad 2s this year. It would also cause Apple to lose all the money they would have made milking the current model until next spring. There doesn't seem to be any reason for them to do this right now.

There are a lot of tech sites out there that would have you believe that Apple needs to do this to curb pressure from competing tablet makers. I honestly don't believe there is any pressure. A metric ton of Android tablet models have been released this year, and there is a metric ton more coming for the holidays. None of them have made a dent in the iPad's armor in the non-geek community, which is the most important demographic to Apple, and rightly so. The more of these "me too" tablets come out, the more the market gets dilluted into the iPad vs. all these other lesser models. People vote with their wallets and it's quite obvious what the more desirable tablet is.

If there is a new iPad in the fall, I say "go Apple, good for you, keep kicking ass". But I will not buy another iPad until next year. I refuse to buy 2 in one year.

Would make sense with respect to LTE ... But didn't SJ recently said that the chips require too much design compromises and note not yet ready for Apple ? But I know that this doesn't mean too much.
I still hope for a better screen; that would be the main reason to buy a second iPad this year.
With respect to LTE I'm off market as I just got a LTE-Mobile WIFi router; my next iPad will be WiFi only. This way I can share my LTE with more then one device ... Of course less convenient because a seperate device.

You'll find out next week. Although the science behind asking a clerk at a single Target store is iffy, at best.

This might suggest that the Target demographic, especially where you live, is not the best market for the iPad, but says nothing about the overall demand for the iPad.

And smart companies do pay attention to this. They want to know where they are selling well, where they are not, and why.

The whole iPad 3 thing is intriguing. It would piss off people who just bought one, but that happens with every upgrade of everything. Professional? I thought this was silly, but labeling it that way might keep recent buyers from being so mad.

Every maker of electronic debris in the world is coming out with a tablet. Just when they caught up in geek numbers, here comes Apple to step on their necks. If true, this would be a bold move.

    Seriously??

I really can't believe some of the things I read on this board. About the new thread...skip it if you don't want to read it. Concerning "IPad"...yeah, sure, to be apple-correct, it is "iPad", but are you really that bent out of shape over his usage of the capital I??

If so, all I can say is WOW!

I sort of see the point you're saying, but Apple could as well get another manufacturer involved if they want to release an iPad 3 this fall. Apple may well sell iPad 3 along with the iPad 2. Who knows.
