Looking around a bit, I see that the Viewsonic brand uses a technology similar to Asus. Does anyone have experience with Viewsonic? I know they’ve been around for a long time. What is their reputation?

I found a couple of used 22" LG Ultrafines to run with my M1 mini. You should be able to find a used one for between $300-$400. However, I wouldn't recommend them if you want to travel. They are quite heavy for the size, but they are also better built and much better quality than the 20" Samsung monitor they replaced. Also, they only have 1 thunderbolt port, and the other 3 usb-c ports are usb 2 speed.

It’s likely that Apple could be launching mini LED technology in their anticipated forthcoming 14” and 16” MacBook Pro line. Is OLED technology (with PWM flickering) an issue for sensitive eyes? Are high refresh rate displays also likely to be a similar issue?

Apple are using OLED in modern iPhones so you could check those out to see if OLED is an issue. And of course check out an M1 iPad Pro 12.9 to see if mini LED will be an issue.

I'd have thought that an eInk display would be the easiest on the eyes but of course they are even rarer than the no-name laptop size displays that we have been discussing.

Asus is not Chinese? I thought you are “... staying away from Chinese brands ...” (for whatever socio-political reasons that might be)

Good points and questions to ponder. I don’t have experience with OLED, so this would be a good test.

My eyes are being irritated by something. I use a variety of devices, so I need to create a log to better determine what is causing the irritation.

Thanks for the info.

You are misrepresenting my statement. I said that “I’m staying away from Chinese brands I’ve never heard of”. Asus was formed in Taiwan in 1989.
