push notifications are amazing im willing to bet that in 8 years other competitors will finally be at the level of push
Haha. I'm a huge fan of the iPhone, but saying this is just ignorant. At the level of push? Does this mean one level behind every other phone that can multitask? I don't want to get into this whole discussion, but just stop being a fanboy and actually encourage some competition. If there was no competition, Apple would sit back and never make changes to the iPhone.
we need some dang competitionI said no but I wouldn't be shocked if someone eventually came along with a phone that is extremely impressive. Now, most here wouldn't admit it was great but I think the sales of it would say so.
I love companies that push Apple. I want everyone pushing Apple. Keep them on their toes.
Companies fighting it out means we win, imo
iTunes and Apple apps made iPhone untouchable. And, seeing not even Google can create another 'iTunes', no one will come close.
No doubt iTunes is the Apple's best creation; not all those hardwares. So, comparing hardwares is pointless.
Nobody can even make a worthy competitor for the iPod, let alone the iPhone. There's no way anybody will be able to compete in my opinion, at least not for quite some time.
bill gates would be ashamed to own such a bad phone (realist point of view)ZUNE HD PHONE (pure speculation).![]()
thats just my opinion but i respect yoursThat's a unique feature. Perhaps less so with the Pre.
thats part of what makes the iphone stand out
Storage? The iphone is not the first phone to have onboard memory. Some phones have infinate memory by the way, as you can keep plugging in microSD cards. Gosh, more "advanced" than the iphone there.
microsd cards are smart for a camera yes but for a mobile phone no. how many other phones out there have 16gb/32gbs of storage onboard?
What does that even mean? I'd say Opera have mobile browsers that are as "complete" as Safari. I prefer safari, but don't tell me it's the only decent mobile browser out there.
its blazing fast if u see the tests of javascript benchmarks what phone is in the lead? opera is a weak mobile browser id rather have netscape navigator
Quite possible on a Windows Mobile device thanks. Not as easy or as pleasant as on an iPhone (and the iphone's usability benefit shouldn't be under-estimated), but again quite possible.
you said it yourself its not pleasant its all about functionality u can buy a movie/tvshow and have it transfer your purchase rightback to your computer
I'd suggest that's a subjective thing. I'd also suggest that Sony-Ericsson and Nokia might have something to say about that.
yeah but consider how much you actually use the phone its almost a mini computer
That's one for Apple.
the problem with the app store is that there are too many lite versions if you could try whole apps before u buy there would be less apps so thats a downfall of the appstore
It might take a while for other people to "get it" about why Apple's product is so much better to use despite their products having a similar checklist of features, but there is no way 8 years of difference. Let's face it, the palm pre isn't a bad fist at catching up with Apple's phone and that didn't take that long to develop. not all phones in the market will take 8 years to catch up not but for most of them it will because most of the company are just mimicking whatever apple does (example appstores)
QFT. Excellent post. It's been said over and over again, and yet naysayers and critics continue to ignore this: the innovation isn't in the basic features of the device, but how they are implemented. The specs on paper in and of themselves are not remarkable and never really have been. It's the fact that the iPhone does these features better than most other phones out there that makes it popular.
I bet Apple will have something reasonably exciting next WWDC, or at least something good enough to stay up there. But don't get me wrong, I want there to be competition. Phones have been too sucky for too long and I think it's a little sad that the first one to even come close to the iPhone the Pre only got there because they have ex Apple employees working on it. I DO think that if they address the hardware issues people have been complaining about and get a reasonable SDK and some good apps on their store, it'll do quite well. Especially if they come to Verizon and make a GSM version too. I'll stick with the iPhone because I love how well it integrates with my Mac, but if I were a PC person I might look at the Pre more seriously.I don't think anything is going to hurt the iPhone 3GS this year. Next year will be a different story. BB Storm 2.0, Palm Pre 2.0, anything with Android, etc. will be too much for Apple to handle IF they don't release a revolutionary iPhone 4.0 next year.

I don't want an iPhone 3GLS (ludicrous speed for you Space Ball fans out there), I want something to knock MY socks off. I'm looking forward to the Pre 2.0 because there are a lot of things they're going to improve on from 1.0. Of course, all of this is moot if Apple comes out with a new SW update that includes background apps, flash, etc.
Stay tuned.![]()
And what makes you think any of those phones would be able to take on iphone 4.0, anyways we're still waiting for the phone to dethrone iphone, it's almost 3 years now, apparently we'll see it in 2010.
That's the thing. The iPhone 4.0 needs to be revolutionary. If it is, then it doesn't matter what the competition releases. If it's another 3GS, then I believe you'll see a massive drop in sales. Their app stores will be bigger, UI improvements, etc.
iPhone 2G had the LG Voyager.
iPhone 3G had the BB Storm, G1, SE X1, etc.
iPhone 3GS has the Palm Pre, new HTC handsets, SE X2, etc.
lol4.0 doesn't have to be revolutionary or even close to it
As long as they keep upgrading the software and adding things (and we have countless threads with requests), I think most will be happy.
Revolutionary? Seems quite far-fetched
