Apple-ized?

"For an extra $100 it will also come with an MP3 player/keychain data-storage drive, or a cell phone that runs on Sprint's network and can be synched with data on the computer. Or both accouterments can be had for $200."

I love it. $100 each or 2 for $200.

Ooo. Ooo. Give me the two - I know a good deal when I see it.

Ok, I get a little irked when someone claims to "Apple-ized" the computer.

And what about bluetooth? I love my bluetooth cell phone. No wires and works effortless on my mac. Just my 2 cents :)

"hip-e is the fastest, most customizable computer on the market. It's perfect for me because I can make it fit my style."

Sean, 16

are you kidding? is this some sort of sick minded joke? this sean needs to just shut up and never, ever, talk about computers ever again because he is obviously... um... I can't even think of a term to describe him. it's like stupid multiplied by ignorant cubed.

So the real problem here is parents and their lack of knowledge about the computer (which usually seems to be the case it seems).

<SNIP>

So what it really boils down to is that parents need far more education in computers than what they have now.
Agree with what you say, but don't jump on your parents too hard.

The last 20 years have seen some huge changes. As you get older, it becomes harder to keep up with technology. Don't laugh, someday you will see.

Sometimes a simple demonstration can bring folks around. My father for example, at 79, is using a PowerBook that I purchased for him last summer. This summer when I visited, I tried to interest him in an Airport Express so that he could more easily play music. He refused my idea outright. He didn't understand what all the mumbo jumbo meant to him. So I got one for myself, and just tested it with his system. He was very impressed and liked it. So I just gave mine to him.

It seems as you get older, you get comfortable with the way things currently are in your environment. Changing to a new system requires effort. Effort which many times older folks don't see as worth their time. So the best way, is to show them the benefit so that they can see it in real terms.

My 2 cents for your consideration.

Any person who likes that cruddy, sorry, despicable garbage is a disgrace to humanity. And those people at that hippie-ooh-i'm-a-stoned-loner company can go stick their heads in a toilet for all I care. I'm not talking about the insides of that whatnot machine. The "design" is so excruciatingly ugly my eyes hurt. I just screamed so loudly when I saw it that I woke my Mom up. Those things are a level-5 biohazard. Destroy all traces of them before they destroy us.

And don't get me started on those annoying brats...

We really need to calm down around here. Is this some kind of retaliation for all the "cheese grater" and "toilet seat" jokes we got?

As bad as it may look, you can tell they tried. I think the wireless keyboard with track-pad is a great idea. I know I didn't like sitting back on my PC with my mouse on a guitar amp, or my leg. The removable screen is also what we have been clamoring for for the past few months.

This computer is an interesting idea, but nobody's parents are going to buy it when you can get a Dell for $400, and no teenagers who can afford a computer are going to blow their life's savings on such a gimmick. The only people who will wind up with this are the rich kids who haven't discovered Macs yet. This is not anything for anybody to worry about, and it certainly isn't an atrocity that made me "scream so loud my mom woke up". Chill out and watch it join the ranks of the N-Gage as a stupid gizmo idea.

i'd be surprised if they even sell one of them, it's a laptop with no battery.

note how they don't mention the graphics card aka intergrated crap aka crap for games and video stuff

It looks really lame. It's clunky, expensive, and gimmicky- like a Fisher Price toy. If people think that's what apples are like, people may shy away from switching. This 'apple-izing' could hurt apple in the long run. :p

I think it looks cool! I would buy one. But it is a bit expensive, and I do like my laptop.

Excerpt from hip-e Chapter 11 proceedings

But the teens said their parents resisted buying Apple computers because they don't run Windows, the platform most people are familiar with.

= But the teens said their parents resisted buying hip-e computers because they weren't made by Dell, Gateway, HP, etc., the companies most people are familiar with...

for the price of that machine, you can get 2.5 wal-mart laptops that are better.

UGLY!!!!!

Oh my F****ing god thats the ugliest piece of s*** ive ever seen. Im a teen and i'd never buy it.

That is the ugliest thing I've seen. Wait, no, I've seen worse Dell's ;).

I hope that they don't market it in California. All the teens here will reject it. We like our clean white iBooks, thank you very much.

...

People said the same thing about the original iMac. Maybe there is a chance for it to sell after all.

not for that price. although the original $1300 for the imac in 1998 wasn't that great either.

I can think of several teens that would love the look of it, but no they are not appleites. The only drawbacks I can see are the price and the fact the company is relatively new, though they did produce the netpliance lol! Besides it is a lot better than an HP/Compaq or god forbid a Gateway (if they even make pc's any more) and not as bad as some of the case mods I have seen.

believe this sucker is probably using Intel graphics or something like that. I can't find a 1.5 GHz IA32 desktop so I am going to have to use the 2.4 GHz Celeron, which is no doubt superior.

That is untrue. A 1.5 GHz Pentium-M is equivalent to a 2.6 GHz Pentium 4, and the Celeron has absolutely nothing better than a Pentium 4. Stay away from Celerons at all costs. It's not that much more expensive to get a P4.

Remember, a 1.5 GHz Pentium-M is faster than a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4.

EDIT: look at the "nodebook" http://hip-e.com/jsp/systemIndex.jsp

If the keyboard were white, you'd have an ibook!1

So desu ne!

You do make a good point.

Personally, I think that it looks okay -- in the picture anyway. However, I would want to see one in person before passing judgement.

I suppose seeing it person might change my opinion but I still think it belongs in Star Wars Episode III. ;)

parental controls. But it's been retooled to speak to teens in everyday terms.

For instance, users can click on "paper" to launch Microsoft Word, "create a presentation" to launch PowerPoint, or "burn CD" to open a CD-copying program.

He cites market research that says teens are considered the tech gurus in today's families and dictate electronics purchases.

But the teens said their parents resisted buying Apple computers because they don't run Windows, the platform most people are familiar with.

I see, so the tech gurus who are dictating the purchases want a simplified OS, parental controls, and actually don't dictate the purchases, because their parents are blocking them.

"We are doing that - on steroids.

So we can expect roid-rage from this computer?

"Apple-ize the PC industry."

What, by turning the computer white?

The 17-inch desktop display - which boots up to screaming black and white swirls and squiggles against a lime-green backdrop - has a "hangout tuner," an on-screen dial that lets users jump to categories of desktop applications: music, movies, games, photos, news, communications, shopping and homework.

That sounds like the coolest thing ever! ;)

Speaking of which, when is it (SW3) due to be released?

Just the right decoration for the Death Star! :)
