This was back 2 years ago. I went to my Aunt's for vacation. My cousin had a school project which made her do a presentation. Her project is on engineering stuff I am currently studying. I get unwillingly drafted to help her; nonetheless payment was good a ol'e In-N-Out burger. Now, on with the story....
>Go in high school
>Need a computer for quick fact check on UNO's engineering program
>All computers are 21/5" iMacs running Windows XP
>Ask the IT guy why spend so much on Macs just to run Windows
>He says its because Macs don't get viruses
>mfw he said that

wow. Just wow. The worse part is they were paying that guy fairly well and that is his reasoning.....
I have had my share of stupid question and reasoning for things I have heard from people I have help out but nothing that bad.

My best was when a friend in the dorm computer was acting up and starting printing random stuff. My room mate and I both said it is a virus followed by the next question do you have any AV software on the computer which the answer was no.

So we proceed to download and install the AV software provided by the school and let it run. It was somewhere over 1k when it was all said and done. This is followed by another 700-800+ when we ran antispyware software.
After that we back everything up and nuke it. It was work running the software just so we could pull the backups safely. After that we proceeded to hook the backups to one of our clean computers and scan it again and we found some more but at least then it was all back up and safe. Reformated put the AV software on his computer and loaded it all back up.

As someone who works in IT, I have to say the firewire cable into USB is freaking awesome!

I can't top that
I forgot the worst part... he got it to fit... >.< I walked out, went to the IT guy and his face was priceless (his expression was Dear God how/why!?!?!?!?)
== CLICK OR PRESS ANY KEY TO END THE PRESENTATION ==
"...um... guys, what do I press now?" - My old english teacher.

Oh and the hilarious, "I wouldn't invest in a Macintosh computer system if I were you. They don't have the ability to multitask." - The moron who somehow got employed at PC-Friend.
Wait, couldn't the original Macintosh multitask?

The real reason schools use Windows is job retention for IT

No, he is using it as a job retention policy

Always mount a scratch monkey

From the 70s to the 00s I worked at Digital Equipment. First as a tech and later as a design engineer. Loved the war stories. Have tons of them. Most are too long to type in. This story isn't mine but it was a famous story that circulated in the company from way back when as it was done using our machines.

The Regional VP at my office once asked me where the backsplash button was on his keyboard.

I had emailed some insurance forms to a broker. He calls and asks me how he could see the attached PDF forms. I sat there in silence for a moment, then replied, "You have to click on the attachments."

Not working in IT but...

at school the teacher once put a DVD on. the dvd player was connected to a projector but he didn't know how to start the movie from the dvd menu. I told him the projector was touch screen and watched as he started hitting the wall where it said "play movie" for about 30 seconds before someone told him i was lying.

The next week he was stuck again and i told him it was voice activated, he didn't buy it this time and kicked me out of class.
