Look those are great features, but how can you not see the how can I describe this??? Yes Apple has improved the screen, yay, the camera, yay..but what they give with the left hand, they take away with the right hand...

Improved camera requires more data per photo, you need more storage, so Apple increased this to 64GB, but then whack 4K movies...So what do you do? Less photos or more iTunes? I give up... Be oblivious.....What Apple is doing is insane...stupid...an improvement..not really...

No it is a serious question... I know that many professionals are starting to use iPhones to record video and audio in the news department, and the iPhone at high resolution will consume storage quick quickly.

For example Time Magazine just did a feature using a photographer from Brazil on an assignment in the USA, she used various iPhones, why should 1 phone be all to everyone? Why not have one that is SD CARD loaded and one without?

As I see it, the phone has not changed very much, from 1st gen to 10th gen..Basically the iPhone is in the 10th gen a Porsche with an 8track deck and 5 preloaded AM dial radio stations you are unable to adjust!!!

I'm sure such "professionals" wont mind carrying a lightning-sd card reader. /ProblemSolved

Either ways, SD cards are crap. They are no match for built in storage as far as read/write speeds and reliability is concerned. Dont know about you but in phones with 64/128+ gb memory, I will not even bother to find out if there's a sd card reader anymore. Back when 8/16 gb was the norm for base models it definitely did matter. But now, meh.

As far as rest of your post is concerned, I cant even think how you could be serious. Sure nothing (not from apple and not from any other mobile manufacturer) has been as revolutionary as the first iPhone in last decade. But the evolutionary changes are pretty damn huge no matter how hard you choose to close your eyes and deny it. Be it apple pay, screen quality, touch id, siri (great even after alll its faults), such great apps making lives so much easier.

Just 3 weeks ago I had a major fit/seizure and they found my sugar levels were over 400 at the time. Thanks to one touch verio flex glucometer and their app along with a little online research (food and exercise) and (a lot of) finger pricking, I have my sugar levels a non diabetic would be jealous of within a week of my discharge. I test my blood sugar on my meter, it's instantly sent to the phone via bluetooth, updated to the cloud which my family members can check on their apps and no longer need to worry or call me 3 times a day just to check how i'm doing. Thats just one example of one useful app. There's thousands (even if we consider your baseless claims of 99.99 % crapps) of other such useful apps which are changing lives for the better.

But ignore those. Lets focus on how much the glass is empty instead of full.

Question: Can I set up Face ID with my Cat?
Second Question: Can a biometric video be recorded where only the data points are recorded and if so what is the sample per second rate?

I agree it is on some level improved, but 10 generations on, it is still very much the same, a tiny upgrade in storage, but with improved video, this is actually a loss...Gosh how can you not see it?? This is actually a serious downgrade...This 9th and 10th generation is feature for feature less than 1st generation...oh well...

So what phones in your opinion have changed over the course of its existence?

Here real concerns:
- works with sun glasses?
- works after cutting beard?
- works at which angles?
- works at which distances?
- works with makeup?
- works with beaten up face?
- Can a mask be added?
- Can something not a face be added?
...

It might work with sunglasses but will it know if you have your eyes open or closed, especially with the mirrored ones? 100% sure it doesn't work with a things like a burqua whereas touchid did.

On a side note, Face ID never failed for Federighi. It somehow was not setup properly for the exhibition. With Every new restart , the user has to enter the passcode first before Face ID will function normally.
Even if Face ID didn't fail, the demo did fail to show it the way Apple wanted to present it. The perception of Face ID took a hit. When you have to release a statement explaining why your product didn't "actually" fail, that in itself is a fail. They'll get past it and sell a boatload of X's. But I'd bet my last dollar they wished that demo had gone as planned. No one wants their key feature to debut like that.

  • Idk
  • Yes
  • Any angle at which the camera can see you staring at it uncomfortably.
  • Definitely not more than 10 feet away
  • Yea, well.., unless you had reconstructive surgery.
  • Who beat up your face, sir?
  • Not unless you’re Batman
  • Probably not but what body part did you have in mind?

Did you watch the keynote? Everything but the last two work just fine. Sunglasses will probably not work as it conceals your eyes. However, it’s unknown.

That one was pretty funny. But there are some legit concerns in it that I also had, including the global swipe gesture interfering with scrolling or other gestures in an app/game, and the cutout section when watching movies. That looks awful, I hope there will be a preference to not use that section for movies (moving the video over slightly and blacking out the whole strip) but I doubt it.

The global bottom swipe currently triggers control center, so if it's a problem on iPhone X, it a problem on current iPhones as well. As for the video, it has been demonstrated by a few people who were at the media event that it can certainly be shrunken a bit to show the video without the strip.

I have a question....
How is this the 9th and 10th versions of the phone any different from generation 1? It has the same shape, the same limited storage, the same basic apps, and it is lacking the same features such as SD Card and now no earphone jack....

So how is it better???
You can't be serious. Try using the first generation iPhone and compare to the iPhone X. Get back to me. Are you trying to make some point that non-apple phones are better than iPhones? That's a different discussion than if the iPhone 8 and X are improvements on previous iPhones.

This is Apple's way of making sure you don't forget your passcode. Just like with Touch ID.

The second the cops hold this up to a suspect's face and unlock the phone, it's all over for Apple

Doesn't IOS 11 have the 5 button home button press that removes touch ID and turns on passcode only?

I would guess they would do something similar for the X.

Also as stated...your finger is easy to access too... Also you can close your eyes... Also only 2 bad faces turns on pass code. So someone picking up your phone and looking at it... could turn on passcode only.

Yes, I agree it technically failed in the instance it didn't go accordingly in front of a mass audience and at the time it happened, no one truly understood what occurred. But I'm glad Apple at least explained what actually did happen after the fact. If I was Federighi, I would have been annoyed debuting the most sought after feature rumored for months, but he handled it very well, as he is a showmanship on stage as it is. But sometimes when Demo's are presented live, things don't always go as planned, not even for Apple.

However, Apple wouldn't want you to bet that last dollar you have and save it for an iPhone X.

Hehe. I don't do iPhones. Apple is getting some my cash though. Two 7's to upgrade my girl's hand-me-down 6 & 6S.

Conan O'Brien, host of late night talk show Conan, last night did a skit covering Apple's keynote and the new Face ID feature designed to unlock the iPhone X with a facial scan.

A fake Craig Federighi takes the stage to answer inane Face ID questions from the audience. "Does it work with the butt?" asks one person. "What's the maximum number of faces that the phone can recognize?" asks another man. "That's a good question. Just one," says fake Federighi. "I have six," says the audience member, holding up a garbage bag.

Face ID is a new technology, so naturally there are a lot of questions about how it works and whether it can be fooled by things like photos or masks (it can't), which is what makes this skit humorous.

The Face ID feature is limited to the iPhone X right now, but Apple has said that Face ID is the future of how we will unlock our smartphones. Face ID works in the dark because it uses infrared, and it can also correctly scan a face that's obscured by hats, glasses, makeup, beards, and more.

Hilariously funny! Better than the real one they did.

Well, he had to try twice to get the password screen so that's suspicious, doesn't seem like Touch ID was disabled when he picked up the phone...
