I like the trash can. Just make it bigger so it can fit everything it needs (like PCIe), or at least offload some of those things to a separate box.

Just scanned all the "too small" comments on the first page and I can't help but think people are missing the point of the word "modular". It doesn't in any way imply "stuff everything in one huge box". Nor does it mean "separate display". The Mac Mini isn't referred to as modular by Apple.
Yes, but why modular? If one box has everything you need, it's easier to manage, especially in a rack mount setup.

Now Apple is doing it :D

Stick this thing in your pocket. I don't think a 'pro' particually in a desktop, is designed to be portable to this level..

It's a pro machine, while it looks nice, it ain't going anywhere once u plonk it on a desk.. You'll loose it for one. And i would think based on the size, very few upgrade.. possibly memory. or SSD

I just hope Apple is "just thinking in the right direction."

As some others have said already, I think this misses the mark, though it's well designed and looks nice, it doesn't really fall into line of what Apple probably wants the next Mac Pro to look like.

Also, I just had to. :p

Ah, emergency cooling mode—when you don’t want to smoke the internals like a salmon.

That's why u have air vents.. unless Apple has some magic to make their components run very cool at this small confined space.

Would the connectors on the back move then the sides move? Doesn't look like there is enough room for them to be static when the sides move in. Suggesting you'd need to disconnect all the cables to swivel the side in.

wow. That's just awful - bland, derivative, and impractical. It's always amusing the garbage that the fanboys fantasize about. And the monitor stand doesn't even obey the laws of physics. I say go back to drawing Fast & Furious cars during shop class.

The black cylinder is beautiful, a classic design worthy of the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collections. Apple can change anything it needs to inside the Mac Pro but should leave the iconic exterior alone.

(…). And that monitor would never even stand upright. It's like this designer doesn't know how gravity works... that, or they assume gorilla clue on the bottom of the base plate.
Haha, i wanted to mention this, too. – "don't put a PostIt on front of your monitor, it could fall down" : D

Dust off the Performa 6500 and give it a modern makeover. My first Mac. You never forget your first love. :apple:You can't go wrong with a tower design that can by opened by joyful geeks everywhere.:)

I noticed in the video that the graphics cards are installed vertically. Clearly the designers don't realise that the rear of a graphics card has all the output ports. They probably designed this using an iMac, and have never actually seen a graphics card in real life.

The problem is the size - the cylinder is just too small to fit anything. The Mac Pro should use standard, swappable parts.

Lots of good comments there, and I like the idea of a basic chassis that can be turned by the user into whatever they want (but this is Apple, and that idea sounds too much like the forbidden xMac, so that won't happen).

But modular as in separate components will cause more problems than it solves - part of the problem of the trash can is that you need to have all your extra bits as external components, leaving your desk covered in devices and cables. A large-form tower with space for everything not only saves space, but provides easy, logical access for when you want to open it up and change something.

Yes, exactly! Whats the obsession with size thinking larger is automatically better? It is not 90's anymore, things got a bit smaller on the last 2 decades.
Ha, you are right, yes. But from a purely practical point of view, if you want to be able to install standard components - say, multiple double-wide GFX cards, DDR5 RAM cards, multiple HDDs or SSDs, then there is a minimum amount of space required. Which is why PC cases come in several standard sizes and layouts, and can still look gorgeous (my wife has a custom-build gaming PC which looks beautiful).

If Apple really mean modular (i.e., not a single large tower), then something stackable or rackable is required, otherwise we're back to covering our workstations with endless cables and devices, like with the current trash can design.

These are always hilarious. They never look like something Apple would design because they're almost always based off of old designs that they aren't going back to. And that monitor would never even stand upright. It's like this designer doesn't know how gravity works... that, or they assume gorilla clue on the bottom of the base plate.

It's a 1000 pound foot. Like an anchor. They've essentially gone in reverse to find the heaviest metal possible that is extremely thin. It's reverse space-age technology.

If you got the right super compactor, you could crush 80 cars together and mash them until it was a half inch thick.

Ah yes. You just place a GPU in the side. And RAM just slots in...somehow...magically. The SATA SSD could slot in with the ports it has but who wants to be using SATA?

No. Just no.

And that touchbar on the front was way too busy.

Great, but Apple should use an old physical architecture with a new set of guts for Mac Pro. It could be ready for WWDC 2017. Then design a brand new model for 2018, 2019 or year 3000.

Did anyone ever look up how Aluminium is produced?? The less Aluminium Apple is using the better. It's pretty, yes, but a total disaster for the environment. It's not green at all, it's the opposite of green, just like Sauron is the opposite of Bilbo Baggins.

I'm probably not the only one who thinks this looks more like a modular Mac Mini than a Mac Pro?

I personally expect the new modular Mac Pro to be about the size of a mid tower PC. The G5 design one that the trashcan replaced was full tower sized and I don't expect they'll want to go back to something that big.

I really like Curved Labs concepts for the OLED Touchbar Magic Keyboard. It would be lovely for the upcoming iMac.
