this is not handy. way too confusing... one must remember every position of their apps.

I disagree. Remember, this is just a simple prototype. The basic idea is worth exploring. The shrunk peripheral icons makes it easier to pack in a lot more available apps on a screen without making it feel cluttered.

There are many ways to improve up on this basic idea to make it much easier to navigate. You can have separate pages and folders still. Or you can have different "views" that show "All Icons" "Specific Category". You can make the circular icons free-floating with only a specific minimum radius spacing. Thus you can make free form designs. For example if you want to set up a line of icons with only 4 icons per row, or if you want to create an 8 point star with each point containing certain categories of apps. Or whatever shape you want. The navigation would be restricted only by the boundaries of the shape of your overall "icon map".

Not sure my description of what I'm imagining is clear, but I think at the very least, it would be interesting to test. So many people are too quickly dismissive of early forms of ideas.

Because randomly swiping around in all directions looking for it is much easier.

so you rather swipe right 4 times -> tap a folder -> swipe 3 times to get to an app?

i rather spotlight search or swipe across the entire screen to get to an app.

I can remember hearing comments similar to some that have been posted here about the move from DOS to a GUI based UI. Few would now argue that a command line UI is better now...

That's just to give a little perspective. I can see the points that people have made about clutter and needing to remember locations, but these are points to inspire further development of the idea, not to dismiss the design outright.

I don't necessarily think this is the next big thing, but I can see some potential here...

Apple should hire this guy PRONTO.

They could do it themselves since they already did for the Apple watch but grabbing this guy could keep it off Android. I'd like to see them implement it with triangles as well and give users all three options. Two triangles make a square so it could be more effective on a rectangular screen with some nice animation to get there.

great mockup to inspire.

Really good execution of a novel way to see things. If anything it helps visualize what can, should and should not be done as well as inspire others that are working on something novel and new.

I really hope they don't do anything like this, it doesn't look remotely useable for anyone non-techie.
