of all the types of rumors, names tend to be the most accurate.
No so with the Vision Pro and Vision OS

All the rumored names were way off the mark.

People who really love smartphones will love this. (Although, $2000? Really?)

I personally find smartphones a necessary evil and the last thing I'd want is an iPhone that folds horizontally into a bigger iPhone. A vertical flip phone, though, I could be down with (because folded, it'd be really small and out of the way).

well technically it was accurate up until they came up with something different. they had that trademarked and everything. but closer to the launch the rumored name changed to the one it was launched with. we are a month out, it's going to be iPhone Ultra... now the argument about it being a good name is a different thing.

i doubt they launch this next gen ultra premium device with ā€œtouch IDā€. I think they will rebrand it and maybe slightly enhance it. Im guessing ā€œAmbient IDā€ where it collects fingerprint and visual data, maybe more, to generate a more robust authentication.

Still not interested without Face ID. Touch ID on the power button on iPad is awful.
The smaller front screen would have been an opportunity to reintroduce the Home button. It would still be reachable fairly well when using the inner screen.

Look how LARGE those black borders are when watching videos! There will be ALOT of upset buyers when comparing the ā€œiPhone Ultra’sā€ actual video viewable are when that of an iPhone 18 Pro Max or even an iPad Mini. ā€œBut I like having the convenience of a phone and a larger screenā€. DO NOT FORGET That the inner screen PERMANENTLY is damaged from hard presses and fingernails. Don’t believe me? Search what warning is displayed on every foldable available on the market.

I don't mind the .... ugh .... girth of the phone, but that crease is going to have to go. Apple is certainly going to charge WAY more than standard (~$1900) prices for their foldable.

So how do you explain this?
Literally only leaked three days before the event, up until then everyone was convinced it would be called the 7S, 7S+ and 8 or even ā€œiPhone editionā€.

Or how about…

Again, less than 24 hours before the event where it was announced.

as for your Vision Pro claim, you’re just wrong because the Vision Pro name was never even rumored, it was never leaked, it was a complete surprise at the event. This is literally just two days before that year’s WWDC…

As far as I can tell, looking through every source and every rumor about the product, the actual name ā€œiPhone Ultraā€ has not leaked in any actual capacity. No leaked internal iOS builds, no leaked Apple marketing, no internal documents, nothing. It’s literally just the name that Gurman and other news sources have given it just based off of nothing but feelings and vibes.
In fact, the last we heard, literally the only evidence for it being a thing is that people within Apple have been calling it that, which means absolutely nothing. Most people working on unreleased Apple products have no idea the official marketing name until the rest of us find out. Joz literally said during an interview that only a small group of senior vice presidents within Apple ever knew the Vision Pro name before the event.
In fact, there’s a little bit of evidence against it, seeing as that Mark has been calling the AirPods with cameras the ā€œAirPods Ultraā€ā€¦ until last week, when that macOS build with all of those leaked products clearly shows that it’s labeled as ā€œAirPodsPro1,4ā€. And he has completely backed off from calling the OLED MacBook Pro the ā€œUltraā€ as well, because it is clearly just the next generation of the MacBook Pro.
If AirPods Ultra aren’t real, and MacBook Ultra aren’t real, and it’s the exact same source saying those were real as saying the iPhone Ultra is, that probably means that the name iPhone Ultra is also not real.

16:9 content will still be significantly larger than on a Pro Max (green):

And the inner screen will be great for viewing 3:2 photos.

Compared to the iPad mini (blue below), the display is only 8% narrower at almost the same height:

The trade-off is that if you’d fold an iPad mini screen in half, you’d end up with a really wide phone.

Apple being Apple will mean the hardware will look sleek but the software will be mediocre. Remember the Ipad that was just a blown-up iPhone for the first decade of its existence. It will probably run two apps side by side and run Safari full screen. It will be a nightmare for app developers.
