#1 and #4 (the not-great ones) were at tourist-prone areas. I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of the issue.

That makes sense (did you see all the touts in Vienna dressed as Mozart, speaking of tourist traps?) plus the holidays mean that just about anybody who wants a gig, regardless of talent or skill, can get one somewhere, right?

Anyway, sometimes seeing something bad helps me appreciate the stuff that is good or great more.

Let me chime in here (pun intended). While this thread started out asking about the physical movements a concert performer might do along while playing their instrument(s), I'll agree that like Lennon in Strawberry Fields, "it doesn't matter much to me" either.

Toward the end of Miles Davis career, I saw him in concert promoting the Tutu CD. He had his back to the audience nearly the entire time which I didn't realize at the time was his regular routine. Pretty much the opposite of what I thought a concert performer usually does, so I was sort of baffled and a bit disappointed at first until knowing more afterwards. The music itself of course was amazing.

Reminds me that I haven't been to a concert in awhile...

A concert, is whatever the entertainer puts on.

Recently, I saw Joe Bonamassa, and for a good guitar player, he was quite hilarious. So, I attended a comedy, show at the concert.

Some bands, (artists) are all about the music, and some put on extravagant performances to go along with the music.

KISS. Alice Cooper, and Rammstein have entered the chat. :)

For me, when one says concert, I think of Rock & Roll or the like (Enter your flavor of music). I am speaking very-very broadly here.

But for me, I want to see and hear it all. I love it when an artists puts on a show while also playing their songs. I love big shows, but for some acts, small venues are much better.

I will say one of the most memorable concerts I ever went to, was Weird Al Yankovic. He put one of the best shows I have ever seen or heard and to top it off, like @Sammael mentioned, his interaction with the crowd was hilarious, so we were also attending a comedy show.
