They don’t divide it up into any sort of divisions. It’s got a golf course in the middle though. Detroit suburb.
Interesting! Especially Detroit. I'm ashamed to admit I know next to nothing about Detroit except the stereotypes. That is surprising.

We have a few cities like that here. They cater to a higher income, but as you pointed out, built around large golf courses. Though this divides down to a retired crowd or younger crowd. There's also the sprawling complex but not a complex type. "Newer" cities and just spotless and on top of security. Not my cup of tea, but the fact you can walk around at 4 AM if you have trouble sleeping and not face any danger apart from wildlife is a nice pro, I suppose. Very, very few HOAs, too.

I'll have to read more into this Detroit stuff and get with the times.

This place is older... built in the 1960s, but they have done updates and generally are very on top of maintenance. There is a HUGE maintenance department with its own big building, trucks, etc. It’s middle income, I’d say. This area in general has a whole lot of immigrants— and my complex in particular is majority south Asian. I like it here— feels safe and well landscaped, super convenient to tons of stuff. And the school system is really, really good.

Well, I'm already jealous of the cuisine around you. We don't have that type of diversity here. Chinese, Japanese, and very little Korean. One the one hand, great sushi and authentic Chinese. On the other hand, good luck finding a nice Thai place.

I took a brief look on Zillow just now and I really like some of the stuff I saw. Anyway, thanks for the info. And good luck to your students for the June LSAT.

It depends on the staff. The apt complex I lived at did not like the maintenance staff.
I liked the maintenance staff and gave them $25 gift cards, 3 people. Wouldn't you know it they in turn took care of me.
The office staff, nice enough but seem to have a snotty attitude that they were above me.

This may sound random but I figured we have a diverse group of people here. I moved into a new apartment over the summer. The building is new and has all these amenities and staff. (security, doorman, front desk/concierge, custodians/porters, maintenance etc etc.) Its the holiday season and I don't know what's appropriate. They emailed out a list, overall about 30 names! I don't know what's expected. Cash? how much? gift card? Bottle of wine? I tried talking to a few of my neighbors but couldn't get a straight answer.

Thanks!

I’d throw away the emailed list. I give special gratuities in person to individuals who have made remarkable impressions.

3 years later, I'm still in the same complex and I still haven't tipped any of the maintenance staff. I've seen, in person, ONE in that time - when my A/C went out while I was WFH during COVID.

I'll see some during winter, when they clear the snow from the road, but in that case I'm HELPING them (and my neighbors) by moving snow from in front of garage doors so they can clear as much as possible in one trip.
