With 1 plan??? :eek::eek::eek::eek:
Why the hell I am still here stuck with a country where $30 data plan FOR EACH DEVICES is "revolutionary"... (and AT&T still doesn't allow tethering lol)

From my reading of various iPhone/iPad/Blackberry forums the general consensus is that the US get crappy deals compared to europe. I pay £35 a month for basically the same contract as my family in the US plays like $60-70

Maybe i wasn't clear earlier.

The £5 is for a replacement micro sim.

Ie. when i receive the micro sim, i will need to contact vodafone, and they will cancel my mini sim and activate the micro sim.

I will not have two working sim cards, or anything like that. I thought i would contact them to see how much it was as it would be a pain in the a** if i messed up and then had to wait a week for a new sim.

I totally understand... used to live in Singapore for years and it is really not that hard to provide 100% coverage in an island nation :D:D
Then again, the reasoning behind paying 2x $30 for two devices still boggles my mind

Actually AT&T uses the "the US is so big" argument to its advantage. The new GSM networks are self-healing, have IN technology that provides the network with the ability to fight off saturation by routing to less crowded cells or using QoS bandwidth allocation. As an example. When Vodafone in Munich, Germany was rolling out 3G, they set the network up to place voice calls as a prime service and to NEVER drop a voice call. Data was given a lower priority. By doing this they were able to avoid saturation. It is all about scaling your network to meet the demand. AT&T took quite a bit of cash and did not immediately put it back into the network. They pocketed it, and probably gave big fat bonuses to the guys at the top.

I bet, if you guys were to organize a simple one day boycott of all AT&T services (non-essential that is), they would get the message. The European operators actually encourage data usage. They are advertising it like crazy. In Finland it is hard to get a fixed line for telephony usage. They are pushing land lines mainly for DSL.

And excess money would go to lobbyist to shut congress and people up and perpetuate their laziness...

There should be a law forcing them to expand and improve their network at any cost but since the purpose is to satisfy your shareholders, why would you do that? the bottom line and EPS number every quarters are more important to keep THEIR job than providing great service to their customer.

Plus if there is any whiff of "forcing" something, even if it's for the good of the masses, it will be branded as socialism and way too many people would rather have subpar network and paying $30 for each devices they own than having a common sense law mandated to a company that they don't even own or work at. ;)

Spot on dude. I hear you. I was going to post the pic of my hacked up sim card as well if you want to see it, but you can see how small the micro sim is compared to the regular sim.

Oh yeah I took mine out earlier today and compare it with my T-Mobile SIM... I am now convinced to practice on my old unused simcard before doing it on simcard I'll use when I travel :D

It's rather tiny

Give me 10 mins and I will show you my finished product. :)

Done. Notice how you have to get close to the metal.

Yeah, with one plan. My carrier only allows 5 GB of data transfer per month though. Although I've yet to hear anyone actually getting their speed limited after 5 GB. I pay close to $30 a month though, but then u can get the dual sims and whatnot. And I can tether my iPhone if I want, when I asked customer service if they allowed tethering they said "You can consume an unlimited amount of data in any way you want". Seems AT&T doesn't like it's customers.

EDIT: by the way, Sweden belongs to scandinavia.

It has a lot to do with the number of users on the network of course. If you took just the iPhone users in Los Angeles county and put them in Sweden and turned them all loose with the same data plan, it would bring the network to a screeching halt.

In sweden they will charge like $4 a month to use 2 sim cards. The gain with this is that I can use data on 2 devices at the same time.

Same here in Spain, 5 euro /month to use 2 sim cards with one number, but I don't know if Movistar would allow to use my iPhone Data Plan with my iPad...

Don't want to be mean but....I've been able to use tethering since day one with zero extra cost per month.

My data plan is:

17,4€/month = Unlimited traffic, up to 200mb the speed is 7Mbps Download /1,4Mbps Upload, if your traffic is greater than 200mb, then the speed goes down to 64/16Kbps

sapporobaby, does the iPad recognizes your telco 3G setting and set it up automatically, or did you have to configure the APN manually?

Can you access the pages in Settings where it shows your data usage?

Don't forget the ipad is also magical...hence why ATT feels justified with it's current pricing plan. :D

Well yeah it's magical if I am AT&T... $30 for data is "clearly" magical compared to $60 standalone AT&T data

iPad demographic most probably have some sort of smartphone (iPhone/Android/Blackberry) and already paid $30 data on their phone plan anyway.

$30+$30 = $60 magical price for AT&T :D:D:D not so much for us :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

But what the heck, I like your point too lol! :D:D Hoping a company to be less greedy is just like hoping unicorn and leprechaun coming to my house tonight. They're magical too!

Hi.

My iPad just found the 3G network and connoted.

Yup. The pages are there.

Good...hopefully my Saunalahti SIM cards work with iPad 3G...can't wait have mine. :)

I have 1 plan and 5(yes, five) SIM cards, all sharing that plan. Speed is unlimited(only limitation is the hardware used) and no limits on the amount of traffic. And the cost? 9.80€/month which is about 12.50 USD/month. :cool:

If you purchase an International Roaming SIM when you travel, instead of taking your Australian mobile with you whilst you travel through Europe, then you should save at least 70% or more. I am sure that you would rather keep your money in your pocket.
