Hotspot is a "feature" that you can add/remove as you wish, without affecting the unlimited data plan. I've actually added it many times for a day or two and only got charged the prorated amount on my bill, which ends up being approx $1/day since it's a $30/month feature.

Once you add the feature online, is it instantly ready to go on the iPhone?

Hi, I have a situation.

I have 4 lines on my plan. All 4 lines have upgrades. 2 are unlimited, 1 is 2GB limited and the last one is a feature phone. The feature phone will not be on my plan long so I don't want to touch that line at all. But I can upgrade the 2GB line.

The thing is I wanted to transfer the upgrade from 2GB line to my line so that would extend the 2GB and not do anything to unlimited data line.

But I want to trade in my Verizon iPhone 5 64GB at the store because I will get $350. It's in pristine condition. No scuffs, dents or scratches. I took care of it.

The Verizon rep I talked to via Online Chat on My Verizon told me to do the upgrade on the 2GB line but then call Customer Service and have them switch the order to my line but my unlimited data would still be intact. He also told me not to go in store and do this because they would hassle me into getting rid of my unlimited data.

So guys what should I do?

Upgrade directly on the 2GB line. Activate the phone on the 2GB line. Make a dummy phone call to make sure it activated. Go online (VZW) and switch back the device that is currently on the 2GB line. Go online (VZW) and add the 5S to your unlimited line. Done and done!

Thanks, Pete. I plan on trading or recycling my iPhone 5 at Best Buy since they are offering $380 for my iPhone 5 64GB. And I will use that to purchase the iPhone 5S on the 2GB line and then switch the iPhone 5S to my unlimited line and activate the flip phone on the 2GB line.

I guess I would want to know why you have a flip (dumb) phone on a 2GB plan?

Maybe that flip phone is not so dumb....

:p

The 2GB actually is a Droid 3. But since my sister no longer needs the line. I'm going to revert it to a flip phone, lol.

I suppose I call Verizon and tell them to cancel the data. Right?

What about this scenario...

My wife and I have two separate Verizon wireless account.

She has two lines:
1. Her primary line with unlimited data
2. Dumb phone line her father uses

The dumb phone line is upgrade eligible.

I have unlimited data single line.

In order to keep my unlimited data line.. Can we purchase a iPhone 5s on her fathers dumb phone line with subsidized price and activate it on her fathers line adding the data line to it. Then 5 to 10 minutes later deactivate the data plan on the fathers line and then activate the 5S on to my line?

Will doing the above preserve my unlimited data? What will happen to my wife's fathers line?

Or can I just bypass activating the phone on her fathers line and just activate it on my line?

Thanks in advanced.

Just activate new iPhone on the fathers line. Make a call to confirm its the fathers line that the iPhone is calling from so you know for sure iPhone is activated.

Than
1. If ur wife has 4g lte nano sim all she has to do is put her nano sim in the new iPhone 5s to start using it. No "activation" is needed with sim swaps. If she doesn't have nano sim. Go to verizon corp store and they will give u one for free.

2. Re activate flip phone either at Verizon corp store or you can re activate online. Verizon is kinda of sneaky when u re active they try to trick people into only 2 options for flip phones. 1. $10/75mb data or $20 for unlimited flip phone data. They don't give u option online for no data. Just activate the flip phone and than call Verizon and cancel data all together.

There. Done.

The new phone will be going to my line and not my wife's..
And on my current iPhone 4 it does not have the sim..

Once iPhone 5s u is activated you are free to do whatever u want.

If u have iPhone 4. Just go to corp verizon store and they will give u new nano sim that's provision for whatever line u want it on.

You no longer have to get a replacement nano sim

I had an iPhone4, activated the 5s on dumb phone line, then deactivated it. Activated dumb phone again. Then activated iPhone4 on UDP line within 15 mins online. No new sim needed.

You can get more selling it yourself. I sold mine (not trade in) on Amazon and got $390 after fees and shipping. Mine is the 16gb so yours will definitely rake in more + you won't be tied to a Bestbuy gift card.

Thanks. I will try that I suppose. I don't have a spare smartphone. And I need a phone right away. So I will probably just trade in. I'm not sure yet. I went searching around at Best Buy and can't seem to find any space grey 64GB iPhone 5S's in stock.

Yes. I believe its the 24 hour rule. If u use sim within 24 hours it's killed.

I just try to keep things simple for people to tell them go to corp verizon store to get new sim.

24 hour rule is gone as well. I activated on one line, deactivated, then reactivated on UDP line in about 15 minutes w/o any issues. Many folks have done this without any issues. Verizon has made many improvements since last year which is where everyone got the bogus new sim and 24 hour rule BS.

In case it wasn't clear before, here it is again.

1) You don't need a new SIM if you first activate on the non-UDP line.
2) You don't need to wait 24 hours to re-activate on the UDP line.

Do you think we need to activate the new phone on the intended line and then deactivate it and activate it again on the Unlimited data plan line? Or.... can I just activate the new phone on the Unlimited line bypassing activating it on the intended line?

Referencing my post above #1334. Thanks.

Than explain what happens to the sim after 24 hours? If I switch tiered data line to flip phone (the sim was originally tied to tiered data line).

After 24 hours that sim that was tied to the tiered data line (now flip phone with no data)

What becomes of that sim? It becomes dead, right? After 24 hours?

I just don't understand why Verizon will let this happen right in front of them. I really can just transfer my upgrade to a line that has 2GB of data, have them activate the new phone and then go back the next day and switch that phone to my line that has unlimited data?

That's correct or you can do it at home using your Mac or Windows PC.

They really don't care where the new phone goes as long as they got you locked into a 2 year contract. They are happy.

Here's my situation...

I have 3 lines in my account. 2 are using smartphones, 1 is on an unlimited data plan and the other on a tiered plan(already upgraded and on a new 2 yr. contract). my 3rd line is not active and i believe it was last used on a dumb phone but it has an upgrade on it.

I would like to use the 3rd line's upgrade to get a subsidy price 5C and then switch the phone to line 1 with the unlimited data. I know that I'm gonna need to add a data plan for the 3rd line. Will activating the 5C on the third line then switch it to line 1 then reactivate line 3 to a dumb phone to waive off the data plan fee<<<will that work???

And my last question...I would like to add another line to get another 5C on subsidy price to use on T-Mobile later. Will using the steps that i just asked work the same way? activating on the upgradeable line or new line get me the subsidy price and waive off the data plan by activating to a dumb phone???

Seems simple but complex...just wanna make sure nothing goes wrong and end up losing the unlimited plan on line 1 and also paying excess fee's for data plans that won't be used.

Yes, that will work. Just make sure that the phone is activated on line 3 before you activate it on line 1. Once you put the dumb phone back on line 3, you can simply call customer service to have the data plan taken off.

Yes that will work just fine as well. Also keep in mind, if your unlimited line is upgrade eligible, you can also transfer the upgrade to line 2 or line 3 to get a device at 2yr pricing. As long as the phone is activated on line 2 or 3 first, you will not lose unlimited data.
