as mentioned before its more a decision about the Eco-system you move in. But as you have already a Mac and iPhone 4 I also would suggest to get an iPad. If you care about technical specs like quad-core etc you would need to wait (maybe) until April next year.
if you want/need a tablet now get an iPad; the internal storage with 64 GB it gets you quite far for regular use.

If you don't want to use iCloud, don't.
This is exactly why I love Apple products. They never forces you to do thing their way. There is the Apple way (usually more seamless, and more integrated), which means you pay Apple for the convenience. However, they will let you do it the old fashion way too (usually built based on industry standards, 802.11n, Firewire, MDP, FreeBSD).

before any more "battles" start, I've made up my mind: iPad its is...

Thanks to all...

What are files? Files are just data. The two services are actually trying to achieve the same goal.

iCloud can do everything Dropbox can do but more, only difference is that Apple are defining the iCloud API at a much higher application layer (where as Dropbox uses the standard file system). And, with iCloud, the data are sandboxed so users don't have to worry what type of data is being sync'ed (it could be a document - Pages, bookmark - Safari, photo - iPhoto, appointment, contact....), and app will manage the syncing for the users.

Thank you, that was what I was thinking (especially the bolded part), but you put it a lot better!

OP, glad you've made your decision, hope you enjoy your purchase. :)

If you want to make the comparison even tighter, compare a jailbroken iPad with an android tablet. Then the only true negative is non-expandable memory.

Just took the plunge: Gen 3 iPad, 32 wi-fi, with Zagg folio/b/t keyboard. Nice set up. I'm shocked Apple didn't include their cheapy ear buds tho...

It's called product differentiation. :) Apple is very good with marketing.

iPad doesn't include the weather, clock or stocks app either. Presumably, they want you to buy iPhone or iPod Touch for that.

They're putting Clock app (and I think Weather, not sure) in iOS6. Took them awhile.

And yes, it was weird to find out that the iPad doesn't come with their cheap headphones. But it's fine, I use my Skullcandy for all my headphone necessities, and I always have them around so I wouldn't have used theirs to being with. xD

Since you have an iPhone, one more plus for the iPad that I didn't notice was mentioned.

All of the apps that you bought for your iPhone can be loaded on your iPad for Free. This might only apply to the iPhone version of them, but when i got my iPad I found that many of my apps had both iphone/ipod touch mode and in ipad mode in the same app. There where a few that I had to buy a different version of the app to get the ipad mode.

I'm in the market for a tablet. I have 2 Apple products now, a Mac and an iPhone 4. However, I keep hearing/reading that Samsung Galaxy 2 is a better value. Then again someone wrote that Asus T700 is better than both iPad and Samsung due to the quad processor. I only want to do this once lol. Can anyone provide pros/cons to each platform ?? (or if this has already been addressed perhaps a link to the thread)

Thanks

Trust me you don't want a Galaxy Tab 2. I own the original Galaxy Tab 10.1 which was banned and it's a better product than the Tab 2. I was also interested in the ASUS TF700 but ASUS has QA issues which are at times even worse than Apples. How about the glass separating from the Tablet? Don't believe me, do a search on the Nexus 7 which is built by ASUS and you'll see it's a big problem.

I own 2 iPad's and several Android tablets. You do more with the iPad not because of the UI or simplicity but because Apps are written for the iPad and are tailored to the device. You'll find, like with the iPhone 85% of iOS Apps spank anything on Android. Sure there are some cool stuff on Android but iOS has it in droves.

If you really want something different vs iOS, then i'd wait for Microsoft to release their Surface Tablets in a few months. I plan on buying one of those. :)

Another Example of Apple is a closed environment:

iCloud vs Dropbox.

Dropbox uses file system. iCloud use proprietary API.

And Apple want everyone to use iCloud, including PC users too.

7r0ll?

Dropbox is proprietary too. You can't WebDAV or ftp to it, can you?

iCloud is what it is to maintain its data integrity. Once users or other apps start messing around with it, data gets corrupted.

You make it sound as if iCloud was part of some sort of conspiracy to take over the world.
