Become a MacRumors Supporter for $50/year with no ads, ability to filter front page stories, and private forums.
Report it to the MR admins. Looks like their CDN has some spam ads sneaking through the cracks. It happens from time to time.

Oh and: install an ad blocker. Helps minimize these to the even rarer occasion.

Just got one less than 1 minute ago while browsing the forum, so I wiped my safari cache on the iPhone. Macrumors is the only site I visited after clearing the history and data. Not less than 10 seconds ago I receive another. Didn’t get a screenshot, but the url has my phones’ IP address and my city in it.

(ip removed from link so I’m sure the url won’t work any more) - thought maybe the mods might be able to use it to figure out how the forum served it up.

For the past couple days on MacRumors, I’ve been getting an ad for amazon that redirects me to a different site. I’m not clicking on the ad or anything, it just happens automatically. I’ve only had it happen on iOS but I don’t frequently check the site on my Mac. Is this just a bad ad that needs to be removed? Has any else noticed this?

The admins know about this and are trying to track it down.

Having a hard time replicating this, but I know it's a major problem that affects lots of sites including some major news sites. If anybody sees these frequently and is willing to help us out, it would be great if you could please download this app:

https://itunes.apple.com/app/id658886056

Use it to browse around MacRumors until you hit one of those ad redirects, and when you get one, hit the hamburger menu button at top right, select "email", hit "Next," and send the report to our ad provider at RAMPSupport@purch.com. Please include a few explanatory comments like noting you were browsing MacRumors, your country, and the specific problem (ad redirect on mobile).

In the meantime, we'll keep trying to replicate it and track down the offending ad(s). Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for any help you all can provide.

I’ve experienced this page obscuring pop-up several times on the MacRumors site. I also experienced it on other sites using iPhone Safari, so I first created a thread asking for thoughts and advice in the iPhone tips forum. It appears other users have had a similar experience at MR, so it might be the ad network you guys are using. Just wanted to report it at this point.
This is much more prolific than MR.

This has been happening to me regularly for the past couple months (I’ve only actually noticed it since I got my 8+ In December, I don’t remember seeing them on my 6S+) but seems to have increased in frequency over the last few weeks and it drives me BANANAS. It happens to me on many sites, not just MR. I came here to see if it was happening in Safari for anyone else when I found this thread.

I used to have Purify (content blocker) installed on my phone but deleted it a while ago because it made certain websites glitchy. I would happily pay for a content blocker that would remove these “congratulations amazon user” things but they don’t behave like traditional popup ads so I’m not sure if any of them will? They do behave like malware, completely redirecting you to another site that you can’t get out of without closing the browser but I never thought malware was something I’d have to worry about on my iPhone! Guess that was naive :(

In Safari you can long press the back button and you will get a list of links. Press the top link and you will be redirected to the most recent page visited.

Has anyone gotten the pop up in Safari after installing iOS 11.3 yesterday? I haven't....yet....Hoping Apple addressed this in 11.3 as they made a number of Safari fixes listed in the log.

Alright, I’m gonna try AdGuard to stop these full page Amazon ads that, once encountered, you’ve got no choice but to close Safari. For Mac, how or what app will grt rid of those annoying Macafee ads..?

You don't have to close Safari. On the button of the Safari screen, long press the left arrow. The long press will open a sharesheet with the last few web pages visited. Click on the first entry and you will be taken back to the last web page visited.

Register on MacRumors! This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
