connecting to another telephone service

Why is it that switching from one service provider to another takes so long on the iPhone ?

I travel a lot and when I change countries, my iphone takes ages - litterally AGES - to propose a list of available service providers.

Previous mobile units I had would propose a list in less than a minute.

The iphone takes over 5 minutes.

Per se this is no big deal, except that when you get of a plane and need the phone to work to call the person meeting you, or the office, etc. a 5 minute wait is long long.

If you are roaming, the iPhone connects automatically. You are not supposed to look for a carrier unless you have a personal preference.

Be aware of roaming terms.

Yep. I have the same problem. It's really annoying. Hopefully that's something that can be fixed...
