8plus for me, assuming I upgrade from my 6s.

Nothing about the X is a must have for me at the moment. I also think it's most likely to have the most problems, so I'll avoid being a beta tester and wait till a later version of it.

On the Apple website they appear to both say optical image stabilization.

What is this dual your referring to and what difference does it make?

I have no clue what difference it makes, it's just the difference in the tech specs listed.

There aren't enough upgrades over my 7 + to consider the 8 +. Also the fact that the iPhone C exists and is significantly better wouldn't allow me to spend £900 on old, inferior tech. Once I'm ready to put down a large amount of cash I need it to be the latest and greatest. Yes I know I'm sad lol

first world decisions

but seriously what to pick

I have an s7 edge, it has oled. Do you think the iPhone 8 screen would be a downgrade?

You tell me:

S7 Edge: 1440 x 2560 resolution at 534 ppi
iPhone 8: 1334 x 750 resolution at 326 ppi

Hmmmmmmmmm...

Anyone else in the same boat? I love my iPhone 7+ but the 8+ with the extra portrait stuff and wireless charging has me wanting to pre-order. I don't really see anything I have to have about the X. It's pretty but that's about it lol OK the animoji are pretty cool but I'm not spending $1000 just for that.

Definitely sir. You don't have to downgrade your cellphone.

Current phone is the 6. Planning on picking up an 8+ this time around. The X doesn’t have enough for me to justify that price. Maybe next gen.

My 6 is really starting to disappoint, operations wise, she’s getting slow. I was really hoping for that OLED...

I can relate, thinking of X actually.
Having conducted some more thorough analysis and collecting observations... biggest reasons for you to get an X:

1) You get all of the iPhone 8+ features in the form factor very close to an iPhone 8. This means you get 21 hours of battery life with that large display instead of 14 on the normal 8. Remember the phones have increased in weight significantly compared to the 6's we know of, so the 8+ will feel much heavier than the 6+, let alone the 6.

2) You get dual optical image stabilization, so both front and rear cameras have OIS unlike the 8+ which just has one.

3) You get full-sized OLED display.

4) You get Face ID and Animojis! Your friends will envy you and you will have bragging rights.

5) All of the above costs $300 more from the maxed out 8 model.

The only thing your missing out on is Touch ID.
Knowing what you know now, do you think you'd consider getting the X? Your answer may or may not influence how I decide for myself. :)

I have a 64gig 6+ and my only question is 64gb iphone X or 256gb.

Smaller factor bigger screen is a win for me. I like my plus but it is not an easy phone to handle with active lifestyle.

I have the 7 plus and I’m definitely getting the 8 plus. I see it as the 8s plus and I’m fine for that. I actually like the bezels. It’s a place to place my fingers. The X has one hour less battery than the 7 plus and 8 plus and that’s no good for me. I also can’t stand the cut out on the top. The video playback looked bad with it during the keynote. I’m quite happy with the 7 plus to 8 plus for the better camera features, A11
Chip with faster processor and graphics. Plus the 64gb storage. I’m excited. People say it’s boring and not much of an upgrade but it would be a good upgrade any other year with the s update. I like the look of the current iphone more than the X. I also prefer the home button with the haptic feedback. The 8 plus is a fantastic phone. That top notch on the X is awful. No thanks. I’m all ready to preorder using the iphone upgrade program midnight on Friday.

I just don't see how anyone can get excited about wireless charging to the point it makes them upgrade. Yeah it's convenient but never did I once say to myself "man oh man pluging my phone in is so hard". If i'm taking portraits or any quality shot i'm using a real camera, my phone is for simple point and shoot...too many instagram heroes thinking they work for national geo with their garbage phone uploads.

The iphone x is the only upgrade, the 8 is just meh for anyone with a 7. If it's limited quantity then i'll just hold out until the fanboys calm down and it gets boring again in 10 months.

I currently have the iPhone 7.

Even after reading all the leaks, I was excited to hear more directly from Apple about the X. I was REALLY wanting a device with as big a screen as the 7 Plus with the form factor as the 7. Leading up to the final announcements, I was hoping for that integrated Touch ID. I was impressed with it for the most part, but the shortcomings (totally subjective) have me thinking I am going with the 8 Plus. Here are my reasons:

I see that notch grating on me often, I cannot see myself unseeing it. It would not had bothered me if they squared that notch off and left information in black background. For photos, videos, and gaming it reminds me of when my wife puts a holiday decoration that partially blocks any portion of the TV screen, except I can't move that notch.

Face ID, they said it was fast, I did not feel it was that fast relative to Touch ID, and you need an extra gesture to get to the home screen. Look at the screen to unlock, swipe thumb up to get to home screen vs, touch home button and go to home screen.

On that note Applepay using Face ID vs Touch ID. Press power button twice to get to Applepay, look at the phone, now move to reader. In reality this all doesn't really take THAT long, but when we went from Touch ID 1.0 to 2.0 we got to enjoy immediate response, this extra step takes us backwards.

I feel Face ID was Apple settling for a security solution because they couldn't get the screen integrated fingerprint reader that they really wanted under the screen. That's probably why we saw so many leaks of the possible Touch ID moving to the back of the phone.

I also feel the last generation of the style that is 8 will be a lot more stable than the first generation that is X. It is going to take awhile like it did when Apple increased the screen size to the 5 for developers to update their apps to properly support the iPhone X. This could take months. I would be ok with the learning curve for the added gestures, but I also feel thats where many will find the most glitches, and we all know those bugs like to present themselves at the worst possible times.

I see a LOT of potential with the iPhone X, I really do, and I am usually the first one to upgrade to the latest and greatest. But for the reasons I mentioned, this is the first major upgrade I will sit out for a year on and enjoy the perfected design. Who knows, people may end up being so happy with the X and reviews being so good, I may end up selling my 8 Plus in the middle of the year and end up getting the X. Something tells me I will be happy with this decision though. I definitely look forward to the impressions either way.

I went into today's keynote totally expecting to get an 8 over an X. I was sure of it. But after seeing the silver X and crunching the numbers, I've changed my tune and plan on getting an X. I'm not due to upgrade till 10/20 anyways, so it makes sense. I'm not in any rush though. My 6s is in great shape. I'll be happy to get one by the end of the year or early into next. No problem. I figure the payments through AT&T's Next program will go from about $28 a month to $42. That's doable for me.

8+ I think. Maybe I'm the only one who has an issue with the notch blocking out a small piece but still a piece of the display. How many apps will adjust to consider the notch? It bothers me, call me irrational.

No Touch ID is also fairly big. The display and better selfie cam are what makes me consider it.

I was so ready for the X but I'm not waiting until nov for the X so I will get the 8 plus

That shocked me When I saw pre-orders not starting till October 27 and then it will ship on November 3. For those who upgrade annually, technically someone will
Own the iPhone less than a year. But It won't dissuade me from still purchasing iPhone X, as it warrants enough of an upgrade from my current iPhone 7.

I can’t agree more with this.

Keeping the 7+ and already got the Note 8. The ‘X’ offers nothing of use to me, and either way the Note 8 trounces it, imo ofcourse :)

I hope the X will have a landscape keyboard a la iPhone 6,7 and not like the plus.

I get that you like bezels on the plus. I like them too since the phone is so big is not easy to hold at times. The X and 8 are easier to handle though, due to their size, so I suspect it will be easier to hold even without bezels.

As someone who watches a lot of Netflix on my phone, I'm not bothered by the notch. I mean most of shows have a 16/9 aspect ratio which will mean black bars on the sides on the X for me. The only videos I might play full screen are from the camera roll and maybe YouTube.
