It's a circular building, so I imagine it would be something like the US Pentagon, where you can get between any two points within 7 minutes if you walk at a typical speed.

Sounds about right. I've been on that site before Apple scraped all the old HP buildings off of it. It was less than a 10 minute easy walk between HP buildings that were farther apart than half the circumference of the Apple ring.

I wonder how much clean up the had to do, since IIRC the grounds were listed as something like a toxic waste superfund site, due to some HP R&D semiconductor fabrication facilities built on that site way back before the days of fully sealed clean rooms.

I was thinking about this the other day. Could you imagine if Steve were still alive? Over there twice a month changing things on the fly? Making crews redo stuff? It wouldn't be done before 2020!

I'm curious as to what this ''new Apple'' will look like. Since they are no longer Apple computers and are seemingly pushing towards the fashion industry, I wonder how much the company will transform in 20 years.

"pushing toward" fashion is overstating it. they're expanding and diversifying into other sectors besides personal computers. that was the obvious when they got into iPods and renamed the company many years ago. in fact people complained that the iPod was their entry into toys and signaled doom. still here. still making PCs (macs). strong sales in both macs and other devices than ever.

Can someone explain what we're seeing here?

I am assuming the underground parking deck is built first (obviously) and that's what I am seeing but it doesn't make sense with all those squares/pillars (is that what they are?) that are there now. How can cars easily traverse the area? Seems impossible with all those objects in the way.

Maybe I'm missing something?

I think what you're missing is the sense of scale. Try to look at the cars on the site and notice how small they are -- they'll have no trouble whatsoever maneuvering.

Looks like some serious foundations there! Bet they make it a really nice place to work, everything on site. Like the idea of a 100,000 square foot fitness centre, and going by recent photos I think My Ive should visit it regularly once it's finished haha:cool: I would use it.

Prediction: Apple's biggest Press Event, ever!

Can you imagine the media coverage for the Grand Opening of this building? I know it's not open to the public, but given Apple's penchant for spectacle it's almost a certainty of huge, HUGE media coverage of when the building is officially finished.
Apple will conduct press tours with special emphasis given to the acknowledgment that they won't ever show the "secret research areas".

They are building a space ship,
not a building looks like a space ship,
because I remember they mentioned about "Enterprise"
when they were talking about partnership with IBM.

Hope the new campus is structurally sound and earthquake-proof.

We wouldn't Apple's donut to bend out of shape :p

Meanwhile, Tim Cook fries drones with his laser focus.

The parking garage is NOT part of the round building. It is immediately adjacent to it and extends above ground as well. The round section will also not include the "top secret" labs... they are in a completely different secure building on another part of the campus.

This mock-up of the campus makes it real easy to see what Apple is planning.

Most people think the "spaceship" is it, but it is really the main building for the "worker bees" and there are a ton of other buildings, parking garage, transportation center, auditorium across the street from the campus for all of the media events.... it is a "campus," not a "building."

There are no plans for automated sidewalks. The plan is to use electric golf cart like vehicles with service employees manning a "bus" to go around as needed.

The bus routes will be on the interior and exterior rims of the main ring. Also, there are talk of company segways to get around the building but that is still up for grabs. Personally, I'll use my in-line skates. #

Dude, that's awesome. But you actually working at Apple is even more awesome. NICE!

"The City of Cupertino"

HA! That's like saying the 49ers are still in San Francisco! This campus is essentially across the freeway in Sunnyvale, where it will not be of any bother to Cupertino residents. Sunnyvale, however will be gridlocked with cars and buses for years to come.

The same thing is actually happening with the new 49ers stadium too. Santa Clara reaps the financial rewards, but the traffic extends to Sunnyvale and disrupts residents every Sunday.

That area of Sunnyvale is horrible right now. The streets around the new campus are cut down to two and sometimes one lane. Doubles the work commute time!
