Let me know when those competitors to the iPad roll out.

Maybe the HP Slate? LOL

You may not have noticed but there have been cheaper "iPods" for a while, and they don't seem to be damaging Apple's "bubble."

Yes, I know, the Titanic is unsinkable. Everyone knows it.

I guess we will see when it happens. You have to understand you posting all the time saying "Apple is gonna burn because of the iPad/iPhone" makes you look like an idiot, troll, stupid, and just a poster child for birth control. Now, if you think that's a little overboard compare it to running in a Baptist church during service and screaming god doesn't exist and having very little facts to back it up.

I am not sure what you are so mad at. A fully loaded Mac Pro desktop is still an insanely powerful and useful machine, although they are due for a model bump...
A "fully loaded" Mac Pro also has the pricetag of a small car. Honestly, max out the configuration. I clicked everything and ended up with a $21,274.85 computer. :D

Joking apart, though... the quad iMac is actually a worthy replacement for a tower in many respects (except expandability). I seem to recall it even outperforms the baseline Mac Pro. I've had my sights on the Pro for a while now but I've begun considering the flagship iMac, whichever gets updated first.

Having said that, the Mac Pro is so old now they should be ashamed. It hasn't been updated for 496 days, and from what I can tell by looking at the Buyer's Guide stats – correct me if I'm wrong – that would make it the oldest Mac ever to still be the latest. Doesn't sound like the type of record a leader in hi-tech would be proud to break...

You are apparently not aware that iMac market share and unit sales are up quarter over quarter from a year ago.

The Titanic is unsinkable. Everyone knows it. Buy a ticket.

And unaware of the huge Snow Leopard fest that Jobs held last year.

Ah, LAST year. And the slowest updating OSX version YET. And growing more so by the minute.

And patently and blissfully in the dark about the fact that the new iMacs were a complete and total overhaul that Apple obviously spent big bux on.

...that STILL tout EIGHT YEAR OLD SUPERDRIVE TECHNOLOGY like it's something to be proud of. And graphic cards? Pathetic.

The fact that you don't have a Mac Pro update right this minute is no indicator as to the health of Mac computer sales.

It took King Jobs two YEARS of NONSTOP CONSTANT complaining and over tens of thousands of internet complaints to offer a matte screen option.

The man lives in 2025, when all media is downloadable and for the most part, free for thieves, and directly loaded into an implant Apple iBrain chip in the heads of fools who won't be able to turn it off.

WE'RE NOT THERE YET.

What it is an indication of is a choice to completely abandon the computer line while hoping people don't catch on.

Wow. Just reading the iPhone 4 thread at apple discussions website. Seems all posts regarding the consumer reports article have been deleted by the Apple admins. Some are calling it Gestopo tactics..... not good Apple!

ANYONE can recycle old fads for the lowest common denominator and make a whole crapload of money, IN THE SHORT TERM.

However, by abandoning their traditional base, which favored and marketed to content CREATORS as much as content CONSUMERS, Jobs has put Apple in an unbelievably precarious financial position. Once that iFad bubble pops, and it will, there will be no base left to pick up the slack.
The iMac has been around for 12 years. The iPod for 9 years. Maybe your definition of "fad" differs from mine, but when I was a kid, fads were stuff like the yo-yo, Rubik's cube and Nintendo Game & Watch, all of which lasted a summer and then we moved on. I would consider anything that's been around for ≈10 years as a little more than a fad, in fact I would consider it a permanent part of the culture.

aren't going to settle for Job's crusades like destroying flash and Blu-ray. As soon as something comes along that supports those technologies, and is cheaper, cya Apple.
For the record I strongly disagree with Jobs' position on both Flash and Blu-ray, but I don't really get the last part. When something comes along that supports those technologies and is cheaper? Those products exist right now and have for years. Doesn't seem to be making much of a dent.

1. You bet your young ass you will see it. When it happens. Unless Apple starts listening to their very angry base.

2. I would never run into a Baptist church and scream God doesn't exist, because that's not been my life experience. But I am SURE that whoever does so, does so because that HAS BEEN THEIR life experience.

And I would certainly investigate their claims, and even take some precautionary measures. But that's how I do business.

A lot of people die when someone yells "Fire" in a crowded room. Usually the people who don't believe them and try to get out last.

ok, so I actually have an iPhone 4

I can make the bars change if I cover the entire lower left corner of the phone (not just the stripe). I haven't dropped any actual calls but it's actually pretty awkward for me to hold the phone by the base while talking on it. I did buy a case anyway, (by Speck) and now I can't make the bars go down by covering any part of the phone. I don't believe any software updates are going to help -- this is clearly a hardware problem.

I'd love to look into the data and see how long Jobs waited after the 128k was launched that they axed Apple II/III support. Or how long OS 9 was supported after OS X launched. While I haven't checked up on the exact dates, I'm sure it was longer than the PPC/Intel switch.

The thing is, it's very evident Jobs, especially given his statements at D8, is taking Apple in a new direction; a future where instead of iMacs, MacBooks, and Mac Pros, there are instead 9", 15", and 27" iPads. Jobs has made it very clear he sees PCs as legacy technology and multitouch is 'the future'.

I think we're only a decade or so away from putting the Macintosh and OS X on the same shelf as the Apple II, the Commodore 64, and the TRS-80.

Boy it didn't take the Mac Rumors people long to push this story down the front page. They even dredged up a few stories from last week to help push it away. They even resurrected the microcell story from last week to make it look like a new news item. Poor fanboys, they just can't stand to see Apple get hurt. Truth hurts.

Like transistor radios? Like plastic walkie-talkies? 10 years apiece.

And who said the iMac was a fad, the iMac is a desktop, fully part of the computer line.

Let's talk again in six months in the aftermath of this iPhone debacle.

What kind of time frame are we talking about here? 5 years? 10 years?

That sums it all up exactly! Some will return their IP4 now and wait till the issues are resolved, and others who bunk these reports will have to live with their decisions for 2yrs.

No, what we are a decade away from is remembering the year Apple went bankrupt when people realized Jobs turned it into Mattel.

:apple:

I've been very disappointed in the new Iphone 4. Too bad I can not return it anymore. I'm glad I am selling it though...

Wow. Just reading the iPhone 4 thread at apple discussions website. Seems all posts regarding the consumer reports article have been deleted by the Apple admins. Some are calling it Gestopo tactics..... not good Apple!

If that's true, that's a pretty immoral practice. I can understand removing posts for language or for insulting someone, but are you saying anything that mentions it at all is getting removed, even "calm and collected" posts?

Doesn't Apple also provide customer reviews for 3rd party products they sell on their site, but not their actual product? I don't like that either. Amazon posts user reviews of their kindle ;).

Do you want to see Apple crash and burn? Seriously...

Yes, Apple is ignoring their computer line. That's not a guarantee that Apple as a company is going to fail. I'd love for Apple to care about computers but Jobs has moved on. It just isn't going to happen.

If that's true at least that means that the report is hurting them, otherwise why would they remove it? (Memory jolts back to the iconic Apple commercial)

Yes sir, it's true. Just read the Proximity Sensor thread (101+ pages long) and a few have mentioned it. I know its their website, but censorship is not how you run a business.

If Apple doesn't immediately revamp their entire computer line and make it truly cutting edge, they've got less than two years. This iPhone debacle is the perfect storm to make an entire market blink and realize that iCrap is just that, iCrap. And overpriced. Apple's cutting-edge cachet is gone.

Fad toymakers do not survive long term. This happened to all the great organ companies when they tried to compete with the first Casio "dimestore" keyboards. The only ones that survived (and survive to this day) make instruments that START at five figures. All the ones that tried to make cheap crap to compete with Casio vanished one by one, and in the order they tried to chase after Casio.

:apple:

Correct. As an apple stock holder Im not worried about the issue. People need to just get case, you can benefit in so many ways. Now I do think they should be giving the bumper away for free but whatever. It really isn't a big deal

While I agree that getting a case can minimize or eliminate the issue (I got a case) the non-geek public (which is probably the majority of iPhone buyers) will not care. All they will hear is that it has problems and is not recommended by Consumer Reports.

Its time for Apple to give us that bumper for free.

Bumper does NOT work. Yes, the attenuation in low signal areas is -30dB but with the bumper it is still -15dB.

Like transistor radios? Like plastic walkie-talkies? 10 years apiece.
Yes, and those products were replaced by other products from the same manufacturers who created the old ones. Do you honestly think that Apple has no plan B for the day that the iPod dies? They'll just stand there gaping like birdhouses not knowing what hit them?

And who said the iMac was a fad, the iMac is a desktop, fully part of the computer line.
Well, you dismissed everything that begins with a small caps "i" and you lamented the lack of updates on the professional side so I assumed that the iMac belonged in your "iFad" category. The original iMac was after all the beginning of Apple's road to the mass consumer market, a cheap(ish) all-in-one that was followed up with the iBook. The iMac has since been promoted to premium product, pretty much.
