A "fully loaded" Mac Pro also has the pricetag of a small car. Honestly, max out the configuration. I clicked everything and ended up with a $21,274.85 computer. :D

Joking apart, though... the quad iMac is actually a worthy replacement for a tower in many respects (except expandability). I seem to recall it even outperforms the baseline Mac Pro. I've had my sights on the Pro for a while now but I've begun considering the flagship iMac, whichever gets updated first.

Having said that, the Mac Pro is so old now they should be ashamed. It hasn't been updated for 496 days, and from what I can tell by looking at the Buyer's Guide stats – correct me if I'm wrong – that would make it the oldest Mac ever to still be the latest. Doesn't sound like the type of record a leader in hi-tech would be proud to break...

Not to mention that the last BUMP was a mere switch to the Nehalem processors, at SLOWER rates!!!! And over 356 days since the upgrade BEFORE that one! I know, I've been holding out getting a roomful for three YEARS now.

(Technically, there was a small performance boost)

:apple:

Ask my brother - he's on his third 360. (And by some accounts, he's one of the lucky ones.)

Probably the biggest consumer electronics failure rate ever.

And those who have replaced their 2nd or 3rd iPad, you sickening and blatant hypocrite fanboy?

WHOOPS!!!

BTW, STILL waiting on that MacBook Air refresh? Bwa hahahaha (total fail by crApple).

Huffington Post's Technology main page says it best: (in big block letters): "DESIGN DEFECT" (and a picture of the iPhone4)

Referring to CR not recommend the iPhone4.

A bubble is a bubble is a bubble, even if it takes 10 years to pop. Didn't the real estate bubble start around 2001 too?

And I imagine they'll be returning their iCrap to Apple the same way...

And Apple throws how many millions a year at Forbes in advertising?????

Invasion of the shillbots....

:apple:

Why the hell do you post here? Nobody cares about the crap you're spewing out. I have the new iPhone and it's hands down the best phone I have and will ever own. The signal issue doesn't exist for me so I could care less.

Yes, and those products were replaced by other products from the same manufacturers who created the old ones. Do you honestly think that Apple has no plan B for the day that the iPod dies? They'll just stand there gaping like birdhouses not knowing what hit them?

No, Apple thinks that all they had to do is wait for Jobs to pilfer another fad or failed product and drop it out of his ass, and it's off to the races again!

His next revamp? His own failed AppleTV. There are no more 60's fads to plunder apparently. Unless he puts a strap on it and gives us the genius of Dick Tracy's 60's wrist-TV... yeah, that's it, the iTV...

This is not innovation; it is a deathwatch.

If Apple doesn't immediately revamp their entire computer line and make it truly cutting edge, they've got less than two years. This iPhone debacle is the perfect storm to make an entire market blink and realize that iCrap is just that, iCrap. And overpriced. Apple's cutting-edge cachet is gone.

Fad toymakers do not survive long term. This happened to all the great organ companies when they tried to compete with the first Casio "dimestore" keyboards. The only ones that survived (and survive to this day) make instruments that START at five figures. All the ones that tried to make cheap crap to compete with Casio vanished one by one, and in the order they tried to chase after Casio.

:apple:

And where will you be when Apple is still thriving in two (2) years?

I'm sure you won't be here to admit you were wrong.

The same thing was said (probably by you or when of your siblings) when the very first iPod was released, that Apple was releasing toys now, that they were going to be a fad, could ruin the company, etc.

That was 10 years ago. Apple has sold millions of iPods which have made the company increasingly profitable.

At the same time Apple has continued to improve and update their OS X line of computers. What part of that don't you comprehend? It is evident that King Jobs sees the Mac as one leg of a four leg stool that consists of ipods, iphones, ipads and Macs.

The fact that Mac Pro updates don't come frequently enough for your own personal pleasure is irrelevant. If you don't like it, go buy a PC or run Linux.

Just ignore people such as him. It doesn't do anyone any good by egging them on. If no one responded to their derogatory comments they would most likely discontinue comments. Ignore lists also help.

Silence is golden, but duct tape is silver...

I ask myself that question. I mean, I could get paid for posting here like you do if I worked it right...

Ah the lack of empathy. Aren't you a real winner. Yours is fine so obviously there's nooo problem.

A fix is a fix as long as they've acknowledged that a fix IS needed. They are not obliged to tell you everything they are doing, they know what's up, trouble is MR thinks that they know more about what's going on with the iPhone better than Apple themselves. Not only are the not obliged to tell the public everything they are doing to rectify the issue, nobody here is entitled to know.

Yes they are obligated to tell us at least what they are fixing (even if they don't tell us how) so that we can make an informed decision as to whether to return our phones in the appropriate time window. They have said that the only thing they are fixing is what is being displayed. If you currently go from 5 bars to 0 and lose your connection, instead you will go from 1 bar to 0 and lose your connection.

Fair enough. But that means they have NOT admitted they are fixing the underlying problem, and consumers should act appropriately.

There you go with that "ten years ago" again.

Isn't that when the last real estate bubble started?

Duh. Tick... tick.... tick.... POP

"Cutting edge" is a subjective term. Most people are not hardware enthusiasts, and from the current market, it's obvious that they are willing to pay for form over function. Computer trends have transcended the guidelines of clothing and other leisure item trends, for most people they have become necessary tools to support modernized lifestyles. Steve Jobs is right in his estimations for the future market, although his company may not be going about it the right way.

Maybe you should go hang out over at the TiVo forums as that's a company that actually IS on deathwatch and deserves to be.

About to be crushed between Apple and Google.

Techie, c'mon. There's nothing at all subjective about eight year old superdrives. Or four year old video cards.

Amen. Hard to understand why those who don't experience the problem can't admit there is an issue. No one is asking you to return it. If you're happy, great! I sure hope the "fix" works but I won't hold my breath until they prove it.

Consumer reports verdict - Possible effects?

So consumer reports have decided to not reccomend the iPhone due to the signal problem. I am in the UK and never heard of this site but i assume it's pretty big.

What impact do you think this will have on demand for the iphone 4?
My education is more in finance so i would assume if Apple saw this as a real threat to demand levels of the product they would release an ammended version, maybe with a thin coating over the antenna and replace current phones. Considering that i am basing this on no data or figures on apples costs etc, this could be a really bad idea but i'm just throwing it out there.

What do you guys think? It would be good to hear from people who have a background in business too, they could offer a more educated opinion than me.

I don't have an investment in TIVO, and therefore wouldn't know where to begin or why.

I do have a five figure investment in Apple and Apple software, and I don't want to have to duplicate it all on Windows just to end up with cutting edge workstations that can handle something as simple as Blu-ray.

There absolutely is. Do you think a majority of Apple's customers actually care about hardware superiority?

Most of them are only aware of new hardware releases because of Ad campaigns and what their local Best Buy rep tells them. The average consumer's relationship with technology is superficial, based only in design and convenience rather than performance benchmarks.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

No impact

Just line the bird cage with the review. Pure garbage.

The problem here is Lord Jobs and the Ivory Tower syndrome. Apple should have been way ahead of this issue and immediately acknowledged the problem and that a real fix would be forthcoming. Instead, we get insulting prevarications in the form of how to hold the phone and/or it's a display problem. The problem will go from bad to worse if Apple puts out a software update that merely masks the problem as opposed to actually fixing it - if a software could have fixed the problem, the update would have been already out last week if not earlier. Me thinks Lord Job's need to wake up from his delusional slumber and deliver a handful of pink slips to the senior engineers responsible for this embarrassing debacle while coming up with a plan to stem the bleeding.

i think steve is being stubborn. Apple execs and lawyers prob asked him to just send an apology and gift card or bumper out.... but he refused.

Make sure you fanbois keep your red candles lit before the photo at all times.

And keep the shrine away from your Blu-ray discs!! They WILL melt.
