I've always thought this is a weird problem. It's a real one if the registry causes problems, but generally in my windows use it hasn't, in any particularly bad way. Certainly no more than depreciated .kexts on osX that have made my Mac unbootable a couple of times on OS updates, and things like that. I totally agree on the whole the Mac "just works" somewhat more frequently than windows, but it's not like Windows is rocket science.This. The Registry is a mess and it's the foundation of Windows
I answered maybe. I don't know OP's interests, financials, or personal tastes.
Windows is fine. Windows 10 is the best of the Windows bunch. It's still not leaving the OS X environment for me.
eg: Windows still doesnt come with thumbnail/preview support for PSDs.. What the hell. SageThumbs + Irfanview or similar fix that. (still a bit annoying, but oh well!)
Agree apple do do a better job of keeping the underbelly of the OS out of sight and mind.. I see Macs in my distant and occasional future, but my "main" makes sense as Windows for now, I think. Even the most pimped out iMac doesn't perform as well (for key tasks) as my not even that insanely specced PC.. And I keep going into my software situation.. I'm pretty agnostic now, partly not by choice, video editing on my iMac was proving incredibly frustrating, and encoding after the fact insaaaaaanely slooooow. If you want to save some money by switching to Windows hardware maybe, depending on what you want to do with it. MacOSX is everything I want it to be. Windows 10 is the best Windows I've used, but my serious working comfort still resides in the MacOSX and I can afford it so, I see Macs in my foreseeable future. Note, as I type this post on my gaming PC.
Here's a winner. $115, what's not to like? My guess, no serious gaming.

Agreed, the MS Achilles's heal. Yes, MS has put effort into protecting you from it and there are ways to mitigate it, but Apple did it better.![]()
Lets see if Lightroom gets faster though.. So far it's been running like ass. Hopefully it's just processing things.
Here's the main rub - it's an AMD CPU. A fast one that suits parallel processing great (which is ideal for my multitasking/video capture while playing games/etc.. But it's not as easy to hackintosh.. Though apparently it IS possible, so I might well have a stab at it later. You should seriously look into tonymacx86.com
You can run OS X natively on most modern hardware. That would give you the best of both worlds. I've recently moved away from Windows so I upgraded to a 5k iMac, but before that I had a custom built system that dual booted Windows and Mac. What are the specs of your current Windows rig? More than likely you could use a tutorial from tony Mac to set it up on a separate partition.
The real problem with dual booting though is it's potentially even less convenient than just keeping both machines and running power tasks on the PC and less power hungry ones on the mac. I think.. But ergh, I'm giving windows a good go now. If i hit any huge hurdles I'll report back here, haha.
