You can get Mac Pros to work with a qualifying MacBook Pro module and a special adapter to convert it to mini pci-e. Have a look.
That said I'm looking forward to supported hardware to expand so that we don't have to chase down parts for options like this.
There is a good reason.... bluetooth low energy.
Seriously? You are sad that nearly 4 year old computers don't support a new feature?
I am personally glad that they wrote this code for bluetooth low energy.
I think it's time you changed your signature line then![]()
The thing is, anyone that had an older Mac might think you can just get a new card and swap it, because, the AirPort card used to be changeable, when it was first introduced. That isn't the case anymore, I don't think the card is swappable on any Mac made for the last several years....Correct, upgrading a Bluetooth is not as easy changing a RAM or Memory on a Mac and as for me this is why I will not bother playing with suck that this feature is not on my mid-2011 iMac but I do not screw up my iMac either since no more warranty.
Users should exercise caution when using the Continuity Activation Tool, as it moves around low level files and there's a possibility it could cause problems. A backup is recommended before attempting to install the tool.
But yeah I have Bluetooth shut off all the time, yet I still get annoying phone calls on my Mac because it works through Wi-Fi instead.
Apple can not close this down soon enough. Allowing this goes against their new business model - anti-green planned obsolescence. All wrapped in "Going Green" NON recycled wrapping paper.
Please stop with all the crying about it not working on older Macs and that Apple's doing it on purpose to make more money. Duh - they're a business and the objective is to make money.
There's a reason we all love our Macs - they simply work better than Windows PCs. And its decisions like these, to only support recent generations of hardware with a limited set of cards and drivers, that make our computers work better. Trying to make Continuity work on that much wider range of systems would have added to the development and testing costs, made it take longer, bloated the code and jammed the support phone lines. Plus I'd bet the feature would have not worked as well for everyone including those with the officially supported machines.
Both of my Macs don't aren't supported but I'm OK with it. It's not going to stop me from trying these hacks though![]()
The "no" is referring to needing a hardware change, not if it will work. Every Mac model on the chart works. The Mac models not listed on the chart, do not. Read.
You are right, they should stop innovation and adding new tech.![]()
Will future software updates wipe this out?
I'm going to attempt to replace the card in my Late 2011 MBP 17", but I'm a bit confused on the iFixit replacement guides. They list an airport replacement guide and a bluetooth replacement guide. Does anyone know which one of these I should follow to install this new card? I'm hoping it doesn't involve using any heat-guns lol.
