Not to put too fine a point on it, but you're wrong (and NovemberWhiskey is right). We've had syncing for ages, sure - but we've never been able to instantly pick up exactly where we left off on a different device, until now. That's what Handoff is, according to Apple. Obviously we need a way to access the feature using the GUI (lock screen and multitasking interface icons), but the feature itself is very clearly described by Apple on their site as real-time syncing of apps between iOS and Macs.

Thanks. Not sure how that guy can disagree so vehemently in the face of the Keynote (which he claims to have watched) which describes Handoff (AND demonstrates it) precisely as we have described it.

Sometimes the internet is mysterious.

You two are fixated on me mentioning the shortcuts. While I appreciate you explaining it over and over like I have some sort of cognitive disability, I understand how it works. I have been using handoff regularly for 72 hours and have been using macs since System 7. I haven't missed an Apple keynote for the past 8 years.

I think if you honestly read my posts you will see that I havent disagreed with either of you on how handoff works or what it does, heck, my mother could figure that out. The whole conversation has been a petty pissing match over what part of the process defines handoff. i'm approaching my description from the UI perspective, and you guys from the behind the scenes perspective.

No it's not. Your work won't pop-up exactly where you left off, email in place with the cursor where you left it, without using the hand-off shortcut.

The syncing is not handoff. That is syncing. Which we've had with IMAP email, iCloud, Google, Exchange, etc for ages.

I did watch the keynote. It seems like you're not understanding the terminology and think that automatically syncing between the devices is something new.

Handoff lets you pick up right where you left off.
Now you can start writing an email on your iPhone and pick up where you left off when you sit down at your Mac. Or browse the web on your Mac and continue from the same link on your iPad. It all happens automatically when your devices are signed in to the same iCloud account. Use Handoff with favorite apps like Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, and Contacts. And developers can build Handoff into their apps now, too.

Would you give it up already? You made a mistake. Move on.

Pray tell, how do you open up directly to your half finished email on your Mac with the cursor right where you left it on your iPhone without using the handoff shortcut? I have yet to see it occur any other way.

No one said you could. That was a hypothetical to emphasize that handoff would be useful even without the shortcut.

Please stop quoting me. It's a simple concept, very clearly explained by Apple. Read what they have to say, watch their demo, and take what you possibly can from it.

Then what exactly am I wrong about? Never mind. It's really a waste of time arguing with a guy who thinks hotspot via continuity will allow you to override your service provider.

1. I think you are the only one who has demonstrated error and lack of understanding, on top of insulting other members for the very thing you are guilty of (misunderstanding what Handoff is).

2. Thanks for browsing my comment history. I am flattered really, but don't you have something better to do with your time? Just because I demonstrated you were wrong, you go back and try to find dirt on me? lol. That's sad.

3. I did not think anything about the hotspot. I asked a question since the technology was not made clear during the Keynote. There's nothing wrong with seeking clarification when there is no solid information on a technology. That is completely different from what you are doing, which is assuming you understand the tech (when you have demonstrated that you don't), and telling other people they are wrong (when they are right), and insulting them and digging into their comment histories looking for vulnerabilities.

Find something better to do with your time. I tried to be nice and explain things to you, but you got upset when you realized you were wrong. Don't take your lack of understanding out on people who tried to help you.

Yet you still can't seem to tell me what I am wrong about.

You're wrong about what Handoff is. ;)

Hand-off is literally the shortcut to open up the task on a different device.

Handoff is the ability to continue where you left off, on a different device. Real-time syncing, if you will. It is not the "shortcut" itself - the shortcut is merely a means to access the feature using the GUI.

So when you say things like:

The syncing is not handoff.

That's what you're wrong about. And it's ok to be wrong, everyone is from time to time. You just sounded like you wanted someone to tell you how you're wrong, so there you go.

Thanks. Let's end this here. We will never hear the end of this by continuing to respond to a guy that we have tried to help. We've both provided sources, we've both explained it clearly, and we've quoted him and even put in bold where he was wrong. Not much else we can do beyond that.

You apparently don't have a 5S. ;)

Using the camera lock screen shortcut does't require a passcode (but doesn't give you access to anything besides the camera and whatever pictures you take right then). So there is no "second stage." If it did require a passcode or TouchID verification, then yes - it would be as pointless as the Handoff icon is.

----------

What concerns? Handoff can be used after the device is unlocked, and not just from the lock screen. Problem solved! ;)

It would be nice if you could delay the touch id lock to like 2 mins or something.

THANK YOU.

Okay I get what you mean about handoff being the real time syncing, but I think it would make sense to include the front end user portion of that in the overall definition. One doesn't currently exist without the other. Sure at some point it might. But right now it seems safe to consider the whole process to be handoff.

November, you can't bold the half of a sentence that makes your point if the whole sentence means something totally different. Just a tip.

Agreed. They should just lock this thread because it has served its purpose. I learned how to use Handoff on an unlocked phone, thereby solving my problem. Everything after that has been pointless. Amusing at times, but pointless. :)

At least. :D

Fair enough. And yay, everyone's happy now.

Yep. I'm only here because I'm filling in at a front desk where my only function today is to be physically present. So I can't leave and I really didn't have anything to do.

That sounds exciting. Although my excuse is worse: today's my day off, and as you can see, I'm spending my time wisely. :(

Yeah today was supposed to be a day off. Until I got called in to fill a position I haven't been IN for three years at a location where I never work. But overtime is overtime.

Can you share a screenshot of that, please?
