I sent a message to them as well...no reply. It's a case, a piece of plastic...what's the holdup?

I called them end of last week and they blamed Apple for the delay. They said apple is making them test the cases before they are released. But, then again every time I call them I get different answers.

yay

I got a call from Small Dog Electronics saying that this case will be "available" in November now.

I can barely contain my cynicism. I really liked the showcase for my 3G, but if I don't hear anything within a week in November I'm just going to get an Otter (readily available at wallyworld). I've been cradling this expensive piece of tech for almost four months now. It's a bloody miracle I haven't broken it.

Otterbox defender

Yea, I'm with you on that. You can buy the otterbox now for around $30 on amazon. My friend just got one for his iPhone 4, they made lots of improvements over the 3GS version. I'm very close to buying it too.

Prepare yourself for the bulk with the Defender seriously. It's a very nice case but the bulk does get old after a while. You may wanna look in to the OB Commuter in which Amazon has it for $20 now.

When is this thing coming out!!!! It's been a long time since I've heard any information about it...

I just got off the phone with them. It took a lot of wrangling but this is what I found out: The cases haven't even been made yet. All the stuff about customs and Apple testing were BS. Right now the cases are still just computer models in a CAD program. They were expecting to get more money from pre-orders but they didn't make enough from that so they haven't been able to afford to have any cases manufactured yet.

Wow...what the hell. I got my last case at an Apple store and they rely on pre-orders to manufacture cases for the iphone 4? This isn't a garage business.

Frack this...

Are you kidding me?!?!

well i guess they made a few cause that pic looked real to me.

curious about this case myself.

Just FYI, i use a commuter now and had a drop of about 6ft on a kitchen floor (1'0x1'0 tiles) and it survived without a scratch to my case or my phone. It was the day AFTER i first put it on. I posted about it on Otterbox's facebook and even on the forums here. Its bulky, but it saved my phone no more than 12 hours after i put it on.

I like the otterbox series but the backing drives me nuts. I have a zagg art cover on the back and half the reason to wait for the showcase was the clear backing. The otterbox blings the heck out of the apple logo and that ain't me.

I figure since all of us were going for a showcase we should use this thread to post alternatives to it. I'm looking for a good amount of protection, but a clear backing to show off the art.

Original reasons I went with the showcase:

Rugged hybrid rubber/polycarbonate design
Hinged lock design for better fitment
History of withstanding abuse has been proven

At this point my only alternative is the SGP Ultra Slider. It looks sturdy, accounts for the flash, looks to support the apple video cable (even if it doesn't it's unique case separation will allow that), and comes in a few colors. It doesn't have any soft rubber on the outside or inside that I see, and that might result in some scoring from drops.

Any other alternatives?

Well, looky here. Seems that Contour will be making the case after all. The new showcase is listed on their site now

EDIT: I just called them and actually placed an order for the case. They said they had some on hand and could only be ordered over the phone. It came out to almost $50 but, at this point, I don't give a shiiiiiit seeing as how long I've been waiting for this case. Here's the number I called in case anyone wants to place a phone order for this thing.

603.893.4556

ALSO, received an email from them regarding this whole delay with the case and here is what they wrote to me:

"I am sorry that you have had to wait for these cases. It is in FACT true that Apple decided to put all third party cases through numerous tests for the iphone 4. We were unable to sell ANY until Apple gave final approval. Now that the approval has come in and customs has cleared the cases, we do have most of them in stock. Please go to retail.contourdesign.com to check these out.

Although not available on our site, we do have a few Showcases for this available through phone orders as well.

Thank you"

Thanks for the info, but definitely not worth close $50 IMO. I'll wait till the 3rd party sites get some in and then go with them for the cheaper price.

Thanks. I just ordered mine. It's shipped out of New Hampshire and should go today.

Wow whats so good about this case? Seems like a lot of disappointments?

If you've read the Element Vapor Case Thread then this is sort of the same thing (at least for me).....endless waiting and ZERO results. I had the Showcase for the 3G and loved it. For me, it was the perfect case since it covered the entire phone, worked well with screen protectors and wasn't too overly bulky. Plus it came with a holster which I like using. The biggest problem for me is finding a case that protects well and still looks nice. After months of searching, I found the Showcase for my 3G. After I ditched my 3G and upgraded, I was excited to hear that Contour would be making one for the iPhone 4. Fast forward 3-4 months later, I've grown tired of waiting and all the excuses and just want my freaking case. I've collected/bought about 8-9 free cases so far but don't like any of them. Just been waiting for the Showcase. From the pics it looks pretty good so I'm hoping I won't be disappointed when I get it.

Hmm interesting, do you happen to have a link to the photos?

Finally, I've been waiting for this case. I just hope they improve the design of the belt clip this time as the ratchet on the 3G/3GS Showcase became loose over time.
