Control of Photos Widget

Does anyone know how to make the photo widget utilize the entire photo library on iPhone/iPad? Mine seems to stick to the same 30 or so photos and I don't know how they are chosen or how to influence it to choose from a wider variety. Can the Photo widget on the Mac also be controlled (if possible)?

Force touching the widget doesn’t bring up a ”edit widget” option, so I assume there isn’t a way to do so…
