This is really off topic, but the guy that gave me my PowerBook said that video editing was moving back to desktops (this was late 2009, early 2010). I went to his house approximately five months ago, and guess what his editing rig was. A 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina.

That's impossible. Everyone knows serious video editing can only be done on a 5K iMac or Mac Pro ;)

Re: The scroll ball on the Magic Mouse.

This is one of my favorite mice. I've had this issue a few times. My resolution is to do one of two things. You can scroll the ball right or left for a few tries and then try scrolling again. Or press down hard on the ball and then scroll it in the direction it's not working in.

What happens is that the ball picks up oils from our fingers and loses contact. These methods I describe 'roughen' the ball up a little so contact is re-established.

Don't you mean "Mighty Mouse"? Two different mice you know.

I'll have to open it up at some point and see if I can fix the scroll ball. I agree it's not a bad mouse.

Yes, I meant Mighty Mouse. Sorry, it was 5:30am at the time. :D

I fixed it.

I don't see how the Magic Mouse can be placed below the Pro Mouse, considering the Pro Mouse has no right-cick or scrolling functionality whatsoever. As for the Mighty Mouse, I've had problems with right-click depending on where my fingers are placed on the mouse, and the scroll ball on my wireless Mighty Mouse stopped scrolling in one direction. I would put the Magic Mouse above it as well.

The Mighty Mouse was temperamental for the right-click sensitivity, however, once trained, I never had a problem right-clicking. Of all of Apple's mice, I think it (wired mighty mouse) was the best (which isn't saying a lot...)

I absolutely hate using the Magic Mouse. The lack of ergonomics, and the accidental scrolling from the touch interface is just annoying. Also, Apple's wireless mice seem to be abnormally heavy compared to other wireless mice.

To be honest, I've always had a Logitech mouse on my Mac... But I don't think that is too uncommon. ..

You might be right, the scrolling when trying to click is something which bugs me a lot. It also has much more precise scrolling and the shape is a little better.

I just paired my wireless Mighty Mouse with my iMac and the scroll ball seems to be working normally. When I put it away it had stopped scrolling up. I'll give it another try to see if I prefer it over the Magic Mouse.

Edit: I just realized the Mighty Mouse doesn't have gestures to swipe between desktops. That's something I really liked on the Magic Mouse.

Cleaning the ball was always a trick. It gets grimed up easily. I used to clean it by setting a damp paper towel on the mouse pad, and then while holding the mouse upside down, rubbed the ball in a circular motion on the paper towel.

Like I said though, I'm quite happy with my Logitech m510 :) It's very ergonomic, and just works.

In order of preference from best to worst, among laptops I own now:

ThinkPad T60: Absolutely perfect. The best keyboard I have ever used in a laptop bar none, and possibly one of the top 5 ever put in a laptop. Perfect key travel, great tactile feedback, and it's big.

ThinkPad X201: Squishier than and not as good as the T60's keyboard, but still better than almost anything else. I'm perfectly happy typing on this for long periods.

12" PowerBook: Very good feedback and travel. Still better than almost all laptops being made today.

15" DLSD PowerBook: Horrible in every way. It's like pressing mush. Super light keypresses , no tactile feedback, no clue where the keypress ends, and it makes me wonder if the keys are backed by goo. I even replaced the keyboard with a brand new one just in case mine was simply worn and it was just as bad.

Say what you will, but I think this is the most ergonomic combination to come out of Cupertino. I prefer the Mighty Mouse in terms of functionality, but the ADBII is imo the most comfortable.

And, as I said earlier, I still find that I can type faster and more accurately on a Buckling Spring KB than I can on an Alps like the AEKII. As I said, though, I do think that the AEKII is the best to come out of Cupertino

I prefer this keyboard (Apple) for all of my Macs, regardless of the year they were made. It's a full sized keyboard and has great feedback.

That said, I used this keyboard for 8 years with the G5 at work. That particular keyboard even has depressions in the spacebar and command key and a couple of grooves where my fingernails sliced plastic keys. However, I dislike this keyboard because it is just one big collection device for the detritus and cruft that we all generate over time using our computers.

I am using this keyboard at work because it came with the MacPro. It took some getting use to and I am ambivalent about it.

This keyboard is an abomination and came with the G3s and early G4s. Jony Ive should have been taken out and shot over it if not over the other abomination he created - the hockeypuck mouse. Apple was shooting for minimalism and ended up shooting themselves in the foot on this one.

I would actually like to get the 1st keyboard you showed as it is what came with my MDD (although i was never given it with the MDD) The second keyboard I also want to get (providing I can find on that isn't yellow) because it was the keyboard that would of come with my eMac while new. I also would like to get the respective Apple Pro Mouse for these keyboards. Seems they are hella expensive online. Currently I am using Lenovo NetVista Keyboard with both my macs (I got 3 of them at a benefit garage sale last year). Takes getting used to having to press the Window Key for command though being that its reversed from the Apple keyboards.

Huh. The Apple Pro Mouse is a dime a dozen where I'm at.

I paid $50 for one brand new way back when.
