Very tempted! Haha and unlike a previous poster stated not because I can't afford my phone ;) I like not being tied down by a carrier. And yes, unfortunately I did score a 128gb Plus. That's the problem. I'd actually be fine with purchasing a full price phone as well as Verizon will still give me $25 off my plan. Just can't find one. I guess that's another option...go to an Appke retail store and ask them to return this and rebuy it full price.

So with edge you aren't tied down?

On EDGE and want to leave.....pay off your balance owed on the phone.

On contract and want to leave....pay the ETF.

Same thing. EDGE is more expensive....period.

I could definitely afford the phone, which is why I originally bought it under contract. I don't keep phones longer than a year, and at that point phones are generally only worth $300-$400. If a hot new phone was out I'd have to buy it for around $600 and sell my phone on eBay, Craigslist, etc. for around $400.

What is your point again? Even in your scenario of a yearly upgrade, you are paying $200 to upgrade, and on EDGE you are paying $400 plus. Usually, iPhones sell for more than $400 after one year, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and only say you are paying just double. Just admit that you are committing to EDGE not because it's a better deal, but for another reason. Numbers never lie.

Good lord, why does EVERYONE insist on being so mind-bogglingly literal on these forums.

You obviously missed the implication of my state mtn, so allow me to explain it as I would to my 3-year-old: "It's usually ok if you eat your carrots or your green beans, as long as you eat all of your vegetables."

Of course carriers would prefer higher dollar plans, but my point was that almost every carrier allows subscribers to switch plans so long as they fulfill their contracts.

You should have said what you meant and something else entirely. How can you assume that people will know that you mean something different than what you are saying? Your analogy does not apply to what you originally said.

No with Edge I am not tied down. If I want to get on a two year contract I just pay off Edge. If I want to buy a new phone on a Edge, I just pay off Edge or 60% and give them my phone. On a 2 year contract they don't offer me the choice to give them the ETF and be contract free. I am stuck for two years unless I leave and then pay the ETF. Since I have no intention on leaving I'd be stuck for two years.

Don't know where you're getting more expensive from. Right now I have $40 for my phone and $50 for 10GB plan (significant other pays the other $50 and his own $40). So right now $90 per month. So $90x24 = $2160 plus the $500 I spent for the phone so $2660 for two years. On Edge I'd be paying $15 for my line and $50 so $65 per month. The device would come to $47.50 over 20 months. So $65 + $47.50 = $112.50. $112.50 x 20 = $2250. Add an extra 4 months at $65 and the total is $2510. Sure it's only $150 savings but since I upgrade every year it's worth it for me. I would also have no intention of just giving them my phone, I would pay it off and sell it, which would pretty much pay the next edge phone at least 50% off.

I'm sorry that you were so easily confused by me saying carriers don't mind if you change plans in reply to a thread asking the following question:
So I opened up a new account with Verizon for the 6 Plus...so went with a standard 2 year contract...was wondering if any of you guys knew if it was possible to convert my plan over to the EDGE plan?

I wasn't confused by anything and I was responding to exactly what you said. You said that carriers didn't care what plan their customers were on which is very much not the case. Why do you think that carriers are trying to get all of their unlimited data customers to switch to tiered data plans, because it is more profitable for the carrier. Carriers are in the business of making money so they definitely do care. If most carriers don't care as you are suggesting then I should be able to purchase a new iPhone with unlimited data from AT&T or Verizon since they constitute a majority of the cellular service i the US. If I have a family share plan and pay for 30Gb of data every month and call in to reduce it to 5Gb they will care and do everything in their power to talk me out of reducing my plan.

Feel better now?

If you like to upgrade once a year, Edge is great. The Edge price for a 64 gig iPhone 6 Plus is $36.49 a month and you can upgrade after 30 days as long as half the price of the phone is paid off.

FINALLY someone with a brain! For me it's $50 a month for the single line plan and $42.49 for the installments, so $92.49 a month, with just taxes down ($53). For a year it comes out to $1,163 on EDGE, and at this point I can trade in my device for a new one.

On contract it's $453 down (plus $35 activation fee), and $60 a month, totaling $1,208 for the first 12 months, and I still have another year to go before I can get a new phone.

$45 less and yearly upgrades make EDGE the clear winner for me.

Hmmm...

Despite what customer care said, the store rep said the system wouldn't let me convert my 2 year to EDGE even tho I'm still in my first 14 days with Verizon

The only reason that would hold back that conversion is if you're credit didn't pass the check for EDGE. Try a different store/rep :)

Thanks for your response! I did out the math and it actually becomes cheaper for me to stick with my 2 year agreement and $60 single line plan at the 12 month mark. Side note, I got my activation fee waived so that kind of gives me an incentive to stick with my contract. Just got my first (prorated) bill and it was only $69 after taxes.

On contract:
$425 up front + $60/month x12 = ~$1145

On EDGE:
$53 upfront (taxes) + $93/month x12 = $1169

Tiny difference. I love Edge because I can upgrade more frequently.

Definitely sounds like it works as well for you as it does for me. Unfortunately though Apple does not want to help me. Called my local store today and they said they won't resell me the same phone. They said I could return the phone and then rebuy when availability is better. Or return my 6 Plus and buy a 6 on Edge. I guess I don't have any options. I'll have to see what I can think of in the next ~4 days.

Be careful with Verizon edge. I signed up with 3 lines of service on edge in April. My initial edge balance was $1900 and I currently have a balance of $1000. I edged up one line and had to pay $75 on the initial edge agreement to do so. When I went to edge up the second line I was denied. I am now told I have a mysterious spending limit of $1500 that I never new existed and I would have to pay an additional $420 toward my edge balance in order to edge up the second line. I fought this. And was offered to have the spending limit overridden by two supervisors that would have to call another department and get back with me. The call backs never happened. Well after calling in to 5 other reps to get a status update over a weeks time, I filed a complaint with the BBB. This gets a call back from Verizon's executive team who disregards the supervisors offer and reports to the BBB that I requested the spending limit increase and they denied it. One hour later after talking to him my 9/12 pre order that was successfully placed was cancelled. I called in to see why and no one could give me an answer. They place another order and now my expected ship date that was 10/3 is now 10/31. The rep said he would have to process a "jump the line" but he gave me no confirmation and any change in my date remains to be seen. I may just forget the whole thing and leave Verizon all together.

Well I found out the "jump the line" was never done, does it matter, NO because the new order has now cancelled. Was told the order has to be processed thru the fraud department. Two days later, no call from them as promised. I gave up and have decided to go to AT&T. Order placed 10/3 and have an expected ship date for the iPhone 6 (10/8 - 10/10) and the iPhone 6 plus (11/12 - 11/21):(

I am on edge and payments are a fact of life. To the poster who said "400" for an iPhone gazelle tried offering me with Mint condition $305. I instead sold on eBay, cut commission with them and PayPal wound up with $285 5s 64gb. People lease cars, stay at hotels, apartments, and other depreciating assets. The point the op makes is prognostication, LEASE, and bills are apart of life. Yes the evil banks run the world BS, but being a realist and wanting a new phone every year, good choice op!! I'm on edge too and happy! Can't wait for the 6s.....hmm I wonder what the resale values will be on the 6. Not very high. Good choice again!

I just bought two iPhone 6s on edge. Am I free to pay off the balances on each phone after 30 days and still keep the edge discount? I have spoken with several Verizon reps that said yes and some that said no. Ideally I would like to use edge to basically allow me to pay off my iPhone's over a 9 month period so that I can sell the device and upgrade to the newest iPhone when it comes out. Am I thinking this through the right way. I just panicked when I got home and reading different posts because I hope I am understanding this the right way. I am paying 80.00 for 10gb of data with the "my everything plan" and the discounted line access for both iPhones. Which my plan is to get my bill down to 110.00 plus tax once i pay the phones off. I know you can make payments ahead on the edge plan but you can pay it off completely after 30 days of purchase and then the phone is yours to sell or whatever.

Any clarification would be appreciated
