I am going for the Sport the first gen being i am in the gym 6 days a week. So thats what i intend to use it for, Sport. And running around on the weekends. Man the thought to be able to leave my iPhone 6 plus in my gym bag is a dream lol. Now my idea is to possibly get a band to dress it up once and a while after i see the 3rd party bands come out. I dunno i already have some Heavy Hitter diving and aviation watches some 50mm plus for when i dress up. But for the possible 2nd gen get the more premium and still use the "sport" first gen for gym and everyday wear.

Did you find some good real world pictures (not from Apple) do back this up?

I've been doing Google image searches looking at photos from the two events. I am annoyed that Apple didn't send a single Sport model out into the wild for a reviewer. They clearly don't want anyone to see what a Sport + Black sport band look like, because they know everyone would say "That looks great! I'll buy that!"

I think the Sport model looks fine. Personally, I'd rather save the $200.

I think it'll look fine. I plan on getting the white band and I wear a suit most days. The aluminium can't look any worse than massive plastic G Shocks many wear!

Changed! Do you think the sport silver or gray looks less cheap? Personally I'd like a silver with black strap. Weird that's not an option

I'm a little annoyed that seemingly every single reviewer of the watch was given the same model: 42mm stainless. It makes it very difficult to tell what the other ones look like on a real person.

Each reviewer was asked which model they would like. Apple just did what they were told. No conspiracy theory here.

True. Bait and switch.

Unintentional of course.

There's just too many models.

See above.

It isn't weird at all. They know exactly what they're doing. They'd lose the differentiation between Sport and Watch models. They want the SS units to exude "classic", "business", and "dress" sensibilities while the Sport is "fun", "playful", and "sporty". Offer the Sport with a black band standard and you end up losing a lot of the market to the cheaper product.

I'm getting the 42mm silver sport with white and black bands.

My reasons for this decision,
1. The silver aluminum will show less scratches then the space gray.
2. Don't like the look of the mirror finish SS model, will get too dirty. Yes I have mild OCD.
3. Leather loop band will look good with silver sport.
4. Don't feel like spending $600 on a gen 1 device when I'll be buying the new one next year.

Neither looks cheap. I'm personally torn now. I'm either getting the space grey sport that comes with the black sport band (obviously) and a separate blue leather loop, or getting the silver sport with the blue band (don't really want it), then buying the black sport band separately and the blue leather loop on top of it.

Sigh. It really doesn't matter. They all will look like giant chunky metal chiclets on my dainty wrist. I love them all anyway.

Right now I'm set on the Sport for rational reasons but when it's time for the 3:00 am preorder, when I place my order at that hour it will be the equivalent of drunk-dialing my mother-in-law and who knows what I'll end up doing. I could end up ordering a pizza. A pineapple anchovi pizza.

I am torn on this issue too. I have decided on the 38mm.

I keep going back and forth between the space gray aluminium with the black band and the SS with either the black sports band or classic buckle. I really like the look of the SS with the black classic buckle. And I like the idea of having the option to switch out the bands if I decide I want a new band (and have it match with the SS).

BUT...

It is gen 1 and I will probably want to get a new one in a year or so.

$349 vs. $649. I really like the SS much better though. It might come down to the excitement of preordering and what is actually available if they are going to be selling out....

I feel the same way about this. Money isnt much of an issue, but I still dont want to feel like I wasted $200 on something as petty as an "aesthetic" difference that subtle. The aluminum one will at least match the macbook unibody. But really though that stainless steel is just plain sexy

If the SS and Sports where the same price I'd still get the Sport just b/c I like the look of the aluminum over SS for gadgets with screens. I know alot of people preferred the old iPhone shininess, but I'm a fan of the newer matte aluminum look.

I keep going back & forth. First I was pretty set on the space grey then definitely decided on a SS then back to sport and so on. Now with such little time remained I'm definitely split and can't decide.

If only Apple sent out some sport units out to reviewers to help us better decide.

Even if every person in this thread said yes, you should still get the one that you want. Don't purchase a specific version to please others, you've got to love it. I know you're just wanting an opinion but seriously, if you like the Watch over the Sport, purchase it.

Dunno if it's been covered, but I like the silver $549 looks great but don't know if I want to spend that much plus tax. All the pictures of the sport looks cheap looking, what do you think?

Think I should just get the cheaper one or pay up for the $200?

I wouldn't worry about the look of the actual watch, but if you have any interest in any of the non-sport bands, you might pay the extra premium to dress it up in the future.

It will look fine from a distance honestly. It will also be lighter, which is a nice bonus.

I struggled with the decision myself but I am getting the SS, because I work with pigmented chemicals at work, and I am worried that I will splash on the textured aluminum surface and stain it. The SS should be a lot easier to keep clean. I also like the idea of changing out the bands with the SS. The real world SS pictures also look very very nice.

Al looks better

I would get the Sport even if it were the same price as the SS watch. IMO it looks better and cooler (but I will have to buy the black sport strap).

Yes, it looks less flashy and more functional and purpose built. Just how I like it.

I wear a titanium Panerai (so a matte finish) with a black rubber strap to work everyday in a suit. So no issue with the Sport not being sufficiently formal.

It doesn't look cheap to me! Looks pretty damn good!
