Convince me to stay with Mac OS

O.K. So you think Mac Hardware is superior; you think Windows is as good and sometimes better than OSX; Windows runs very well on your Mac; you need OS X for music technology. And your solution is to build your own windows machine (that won't run OS X)? Why do you need ANY new machine if Windows, which you prefer, "runs very well," and I'm assuming that OS X, that you need, does also? And if you'd buy a Mac mid-range tower, what does "convincing" you about Mac OS X have to do with it? It sounds like you like changing hardware often (3 Macs in 2-3 years), in which case you won't get as much of the benefit of re-sale value of Macs vs. PC's, and yes, building your own machine might make sense, but not sure what that has to do with OS X vs. Windows (since they both run on a Mac, and you need OS X)

I was of the understanding that (although not a must have) the Mac platform was very much geared towards those in audio production?!?

Well to be fair the whole of the creative digitial sector could easily have a Mac bias; but my point on this one is that the BTEC you're currently undertaking could/would "surely" be enough of an argument for you to stick with your iMac!!

You misread my "tone", because there was none when I wrote
I merely was interested in your claim, which you have revised

The use of capital letters made me think there was tone, and the often "OMG you don't love Mac's you're the devil" speech I hear around here (which is the only thing I don't like about Mac people) made me think there was a tone to. No worries.

Personally, I can relate to his pain. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my mac and OSX (especially since I started using Leopard, I found Tiger a lot less compelling): it is light years ahead of Windows, and will be even more so when 10.6 launches.
What I really hate is the fact there is basically zero hardware choice with Apple: one just cannot build his own system (something which I really like doing, both as a hobby and because it allows me to get exactly the hardware I need), and the price premium Apple charges to have a decent GPU is ridiculous (unless you are happy with the sub-par performance of mobile chips the only choice is a Mac pro, and even then your options are severely limited).

Aren't you guys missing the point? Surely that's one of the main reasons as to why people purchase Mac's in that they're turn-key systems whose components work with each other and the OS straight from the box...!!

It' s certainly one of the main reasons as to why I purchased my first Mac all of those years ago in that I wouldn't have to worry (as much) about getting my job done with the kit I use...

But at the end of the day if the guy is tired of his Mac experience then good luck to him! He may even realise it's not that bad and return (again!)
