I went today to an authorised store and tested the mini myself. Came to this forum and stared to scroll, I was able to see it, but I haven seen anything dramatic, gonna buy it as soon as I can.

But I have a question about it, is it only noticeable while scrolling? I mean, if I plan to use it to play Apple Arcade games, will I have any problem related to the screen refresh?

You will probably game in landscape mode so it should be ok.

I can make my mini 5 and my 2021 12.9” iPad do the jelly scroll. Just think people weren’t looking for it until this week.

That’s the problem with imperfections. If you use good design to minimise them people don’t notice. If you don’t care about user experience and just put them front and centre for all to see then people notice them and then start seeing them everywhere.

Who is 'Cook'?

Captain, Head, Mr, Mrs????

Oh, Mr. Tim Cook. Nowadays Tim or Tim Cook but 'Cook' arrogant, rude, and just plain ignorance.

Call me out by my family name and receive the automatic 'single finger'!

I could probably get my mini 5 and 11 inch pro to do it as well but I don’t see the point of spoiling my pro. I’ve been using it for well over a year and didn’t see it. The 5 will likely go or be given away as I’ve just picked up the 6.

The problem is all the quotes about how everyone sees it and is bothered by it and everyone should return it. Your side could show some empathy as well!

As for you and the way you see, the change to landscape mode was a horrible decision on Apple's part, I get it, and can definitely sympathize -- BUT it isn't horrible for everyone. You should go back to the mini 5 or 4 and hope they change the orientation again next time. My Mini 4 is still a decent mini and would only need a battery change to be fully usable.

In the mean time, my Mini 6 is getting more use from me than all my other iPads, ever.
I haven’t once said that everyone should return it. The opposite - I’m genuinely happy for those who aren’t able to precieve this issue, or don‘t have the issue, etc. I really wish I was one of them.

Yes you can choose to go looking for it on the other devices. The problem is the mini 6 happens to be designed to absolutely maximise the jelly effect as much as possible so you have no choice but to notice it.

Once Apple recalls or quietly fixes it in future shipments of this iPad, I wonder what all the people fiercely defending them will do? Would they send in their device for the recall? Or not since apparently it’s not a problem at all and we’re all just whiners?

If that happens. We can discuss it then?

Others have. Also, people that aren't seriously against jelly scrolling will happily accept inferior panels, and a whole host of other veiled insults. Asking for empathy can come from both sides, and to be truly fair, we should be rebuking whoever is being insensitive (or insulting) to others. No piling on, one person mentioning it is fine, and that angry emoji is all that's needed after that.

I *definitely wouldn't* send it back. It's not a problem for *me*.

I'm not saying it's not a problem for everyone!

As for calling someone a whiner, you'd have to be REALLY bad and I'd have to be VERY frustrated to call someone that. Yes, I'm frustrated at all the insults, but not that frustrated or angry.

I’m amused that MacRumors has become a self-parody. Endless posts by the few people who already said they returned the iPad mini or aren’t buying it because of the portrait scrolling issue. Then they complain about people who are fine with it as not having empathy. Too funny.

Is anyone seriously expecting Apple will address it at this stage? Did they do anything about bending on the iPhone 6? The fix for the iPhone 4 was free bumper cases, not a hardware change (at least not until the 4S).

Heck, they haven't done anything about the white spot issue on the 10.5" iPads and they really should be doing free replacements for those affected.

Fixing the iPad mini 6 now would cost Apple a lot of money. I expect any fix wouldn't happen until a future product release probably at least 1.5-2 years from now. If someone is bothered by the jelly scrolling, then the logical thing to do is return the product or don't buy it.

Loving it?

I think there's a possibility of Apple doing that. Yes, they addresses the bending issue with the iPhone 6 by releasing the 6S. Granted, that was a marketed as a different model, but they quietly reinforced the internal structure even though the claimed that there was nothing wrong with the 6.

Similar, to as you mentioned, antennagate with the iPhone 4... the 4S addressed the issue.

But... what is more likely, is that if they DO address the jelly scrolling with the Mini 6, they'll fix it, don't tell anyone about it, but release a 128GB Mini 6 that will have the fix. Apple released a 256GB 12.9 iPad Pro about 6 months after the initial release. (that ticked off quite a few people) We don't know what, if any, fixes they slipstreamed into that model, but it is possible.

Depends on the context. News stories do this all the time, whether it's about a plumber or the President of a country.

I doubt we'll see any quiet fixes with the current model. As you mentioned, structural integrity didn't change until the 6S and antenna didn't change until the 4S. They'll fix it but likely not until the iPad mini 7.

The 256GB 12.9 iPad Pro (and 128GB iPad 4) were simply additional storage options. Apple didn't suddenly add embedded Apple SIM or TrueTone to the 12.9 like the Pro 9.7 which was released same time as 256GB had.

Didn't Apple offer everyone, who purchased an iPhone 4 (Antennagate) a free case, or was it just a discount off one?

Yes they did but actual manufacturing costs for those cases are, what, $2?

The jelly scrolling they can't solve cheaply.

I think the wisest thing for everyone to do is give this some time and see how it plays out. A lot of people haven’t even gotten their Minis yet. We’ll see how much of a problem, or not, this is for the majority of users in the months to come. For me, its a huge issue, and completely unexpected as I’ve owned Airs, Minis, Pros, the lot.
As a very neutral :) calendar comment, each of us who have bought one has only two weeks to make a decision. One way to deal with that would be to return the one you bought within the return window, then see how it plays out and buy another one later if you're satisfied. I am not finding this to be a problem for me personally with the specific Mini that I've got, but other people may justifiably feel very differently...and I may return mine and watch this issue anyway, since once you're out of the return window you literally own this problem.

I had not seen any tear-downs of the 256GB 12.9 iPad Pro so I don't know if it was identical to the earlier released, lower storage capacity models (other than storage capacity).
