Lol, I'm just stating my personal opinion about it. I wouldn't do it, unless, if I asked and he consented too, the repair man used Lead-Free solder.
Different soldering process as most likely, he used lead based solder.
Finally got in contact witht he guy, he said that he believes a reflow will fix it, and he can reflow both boards for 45 so i think thats what im going to do, and yes he adds flux when reflowing, and hes going to send some mx2 thermal compound with it too for me.
What are your thoughts?
For $45 I am your personal coach... Me: You can reflow it yourself. You: Sir yes sir. Me: You can buy mx2 yourself. You: Sir yes sir. Me: You can fix it youself. You: Sir yes sir. Me: You can send me $45. You: Sir yeeee, no sir...![]()
lol thanks, what would the best way to reflow at home?
Oven in my opinion. There are plenty of videos in the net. I think the link I posted above points to some videos in YouTube.
i tried at 400 for ten minutes, if i shield the rest with foil and go higher you think that would work?
I'd always recommend to shield the rest with aluminum foil. I'd increase time by 2 minutes intervals rather than temperature... This is a laborious and iterative process, but I think it is the best approach...

just my 2c on this one.
I have done this with many graphics cards in the past to bring them back to life so to say.
graphics card on a baking tray as level as possible balanced on tin foil balls
straight in a 200c (no warming the oven up) for 7-8 mins
30 mins to cool down and an extra 15 to be on the safe side
has sorted many a graphics card out for me. did go very wrong once on a 6750 where I heated the oven up for 10 mins before then popped in the card for 8 mins. After 5 mins I heard a 'plinking' in the oven. This was the sound of every component on the pcb dropping off due to the heat and also the minor issue I had put the card in upside down. Won't make that mistake again![]()
