I will add a feature I recently found out about. I knew that when typing if you double tapped the space bar it would put in a period and a space to start a new sentence. What I did not know is that you could do the same thing by single tapping the space bar with two fingers at the same time.

That's a nice trick. I didn't even know about the double tapping of the spacebar.

Just got my iphone last week, but had an ipod touch for a year....didn't even know you could do screen shots with the ipod.

now....how to run apps in background? like pandora?

apps running in background is automatic providing the people that make the app have utilised that feature.

hmm....so if I press home while music is playing in pandora, it should not turn off the music correct?

I don't have access to my iphone at the moment, but I remember the app just shutting off when I clicked home.

is it the latest version of pandora? it should continue playing, we don't get pandora in the UK, but i have last.fm and that continues playing.

some apps stop playing when you press the home button, but once you double-click it and swipe to the right, you should see the pandora (or whatever you've just been using for audio streaming, i sometimes use safari -> mobile youtube myself,) icon next to the audio controls. once you hit play, the audio should continue playing in the background

Not sure how useful this is, but i found out today that when you misspell a word and it underlines it for possible replacements. if you bring up the suggestions, select one and tap the end of the sentence real quick it will insert the word there.

Like I said not real useful

Here's another one for you. Under Settings>General>Keyboard after you turn on enable caps lock whenever you double tap shift it will d caps lock so you don't need to keep hitting shift after every letter.

I for one just got an iPhone and this was new to me.

Oh teach me great Apple fanboys that gain all knowledge by keeping the knob of Steve Jobs shiny.

Just like there is always someone bigger, faster or stronger there is someone that knows more. This forum make me laugh at the losers that input nothing helpful and hide behind a computer screen spitting smart alec comments. I could probably pick you guys out of a crowded mall.

Of course you could, it's easy, they're the pimply faced 20 somethings wearing referee uniforms in Foot Locker. The angriest board members are just as above, but 30 something. :)

Here is one, if you place the iPhone 4 on a desk or table or something, and you place pieces of paper under the phone, they will stay in that location without moving, even if a gust of wind comes along.

I am not sure if this works for the older iphones or not, since I no longer have one.

I am SOOOO sorry. I did not realize that I wasn't supposed to buy an iPhone if I never bought one before. Apparently some of the long time users belong to a class of snobs that should not be allowed to associate with polite company.

To the OP, thanks for the tip.

I agree! This predominantly rude, arrogant & insulting mentality that seems to populate & dominate this forum is quite the turn off in wanting to post or ask relevant questions.

You kids need to get some frigging manners & realize that there are actually people behind the keyboard typing asking questions or trying to be helpful!

OP that is a great tip and there are tons of people out there that do not know about this and will find it really useful. I can't say anything bad about the people that are bashing you because I have already received one warning email from a forum admin for calling someone a jerk for basically doing the same thing to me that they are doing to you. This leads me to believe that this type of behavior is encouraged in here.

cool story bro

Related to the screenshot ability:

I ran into a gentleman the other day and we were comparing notes.

He mentioned the app he uses to print to HP wireless printers. However, it only prints pictures from the Photo album.

A little later, I mentioned that it'd be nice if we could print from any screen, such as when looking at Flickr photos.

He said, aha, he does this by snapping a screen shot of the online photo, which means now it's in the Photo album and he can use the HP printing app on it.

Not the best resolution, but a clever trick.

tap and hold photos in safari to save them to the camera roll.

that happened to me for calling some one a DillWeed, however from that point on I will post only where I feel I can be of some use, and I just ignore all the others posting crud and bashing others just because they have nothing better to do. There are a lot of helpful ppl here on the forums, and for those who choose to be not so helpful and bash the helpful ones, well not much to say for them.

Keep the good information flowing All

OP - I'm in support of what you're trying to do, and even those people who think they know everything still have stuff to learn. As others have said, we were all new to tech at some point, we should use that experience to help others out.

To help out - You can use the "touch and slide" method of using the number keyboard on the caps lock button; press the caps lock, slide to the letter you want to capitalize, then let go, the keyboard will go back to lower case.
