I ordered a smart cover and the USB dongle from aafes the day the iPad was released. Those two minor things didn't even ship until Mar 30th and they still haven't arrived. I will not be ordering from aafes online again. They are just to slow, even on items they claim are in stock.

AAFES has gone waaaay downhill over the last few years. I used to check there before I made any big purchase but nowadays I don't even bother. Heck, I don't even think about it.

I've been waiting for AAFES to ship during the first part of April here... if they do not, I'm going to cancel my order. The best part is: they charged my credit card the day I ordered the product. So now I'm out $719 until they decide to ship it. I'm kinda frustrated.
 
AAFES is and always has been, a disgrace.

I ordered my iPad2 63gb wifi black on 13MAR2011.

No information on shipping yet at all. It's going on five weeks and not even an update or projection. I remember it said it would take either 3-4 weeks or 4-5 (can't remember).

Some information should be given out so that we are not left in limbo.

AAFES = welfare for dependents who would otherwise have to actually work and be held accountable somewhere else.
 
I don't rely on AAFES for anything these days. When the new Macbooks came out a few months ago, I walked into AAFES a week after the release date and they were still selling the old ones at full price! Terrible. I asked the employee when they would get the new Macbooks. He said he didn't know.

Not having to pay taxes is nice when it works out but its a gamble when you go into AAFES and expect them to have stock on new products.
 
I ordered an iPad 2 64gb Black 3G ATT on March 28th. AAFES informed me yesterday that their vendor, Ingram Micro, will not be able to ship the iPad 2 until "sometime" in May. When my order was placed, AAFES was not showing any backorder or delay status. The price is good, but the service is poor. JMO.

AAFES does not update their website to show if things are actually in stock or not. And just to update. The smart cover and camera USB dongle I ordered on the 11th of March, and shipped on the 28th of March via USPS has yet to arrive. Apparently, they don't use vehicles of any kind to ship anything. They have walkers and joggers that carry mail by foot, or if overseas via canoe.

Will never order anything via AAFES again. The 10 dollars I saved just wasn't worth the 5-8 week wait.
 
They have been okay when it comes to ... Non-demand items! I ordered my iPad 2 on mar 11th was in the same waiting boat as everyone else. I found out that I was number 255 in the order process of about 5000 orders placed.

When I bought one from the Apple store weeks ago, I still wanted to see if it would ship within return time frame for the Apple store one I bought; it didn't. I forgot about it until today, when I was going to cancel the order, it shipped on the 16th. So now I have to wait for it to come and decide whether to dispose of my current 64G AT&T or the enroute 32G AT&T.

I should have just cancelled it a while ago.
 
I had much better luck... Ordered a 64GB black ATT 3G Ipad 2 and black leather smartcover on Monday, March 14. Ipad 2 received Tuesday 5 April and smartcover the next day.

Best part, first purchase on a star card so 10% off. Ipad 2 and smartcover total 799.20 no tax. A savings of almost $200 considering California sales tax. :)

They used FedEx Smartpost to ship them... so a week of shipping time to transit a 3 hour drive distance but I thought it was worth the wait.
 
Not cool! My AAFES order has still not shipped!

My 15 March order for a 64gb black wifi has still not shipped. I called them over the weekend and they are still saying May despite the earlier promise of early April. They seem to tell everyone May automatically regardless of when they ordered. She did page through some orders and was able to tell me 12 March orders were shipping. I am still waiting for responses to two emails. They just don't seem to care. I cannot imagine why they are not dealing directly with Apple but fulfilling through Ingram Micro. Who is to say Ingram is not filling other orders before AAFES customers? I tried to identify a contact at Ingram but couldn't find email addresses for management. I ordered a 64gb 3g AT&T one on March 12th, and i'm still waiting. I keep getting told May. I even had a bitchfest on the AAFES facebook page, didn't get me anywhere. Maybe we will get them sometime this year. What sucks the most is that i'm stationed in Japan so whenever they do decide to ship, it will take almost 2 damn weeks to get to me.

I'm not trying to say that people overseas should jump ahead in line, but it sucks having to wait so long, then have to wait forever for it to arrive once it's shipped. There is no good answer, just the usual military "hurry up and wait".

Oh, it's gonna take longer than 2 weeks to get to you, even after it ships. I'm already at 3 weeks now, since my stuff shipped and nada.

I'm having it forwarded to APOBox.com so hopefully it will ship here fast. They must of shipped it Parcel Post, which takes weeks to ship!

Well if you want to swap the 64 gig ATT for a unopened 32 gig ATT black that's on it's way to me now.... let me know. I'm up at Clear Air Base in AK. Obviously I'd pay the diff and shipping...

This was yesterday the 20th of May. I ordered on March 12th, the 64gb 3g black.

Can anyone who has received an iPad from AAFES tell who the shipper was or do they have an AAFES return address? Also, does anyone know how they are being shipped? My worst fear is that they use FedEx Smart Post which isn't very smart and typically takes longer than any other mode.

This entire purchase continues to be a huge disappointment, replete with misinformation.

I'd like to know as well, because it's been 24 days since my small package weighing less than 1.5 pounds left New Jersey enroute an APO AE address, and nearly 6 weeks since I placed the order for my smart cover and dongle.
 
To all the guys who ordered AAFES, just curious why did you go that route over the Apple store? What was the advantage?
 
At the time it seemed like a good deal:
-Tax free
-$10 discount
-Same turn around time that Apple was offering (That is where the trouble began as they almost immediately started slipping the promised delivery date of early April)

NExt time go to the Military Apple Store Site and check the prices there...

I got free shipping and no tax.
