Hi everyone, I used to have a mba 2011 with a i7 and it ended up getting super hot under load and very uncomfortable on my lap.

Out of the current MacBook 12" CPU choices which model would give me the coolest MacBook?
(I will get 16gb ram to cut down on swapping)

As I want to get a new MacBook and am after one that won't get to hot on my lap.

thx.

Interesting question. My guess would be the m3, although I'm not sure. In any case, this thread may be of interest to you:

This is how the 2017 MacBook Core m3, i5, i7 behave during sustained CPU load: 10+ runs of Cinebench

FWIW, my m3 doesn't feel hot on my lap with business type usage. It just gets warm.

With the newer chips running a little cooler and the fact the rMB has a carbon sheet under the logic board to avoid hot spots and dissipate heat to the sides I doubt there is a significant difference between CPU's plus the usual trade off in burst speed times etc depending on your usage

I suspect you are equally likely given that the batteries are glued to the bottom case that any rapid draining will likely heat up the bottom

It will be very much based on your usage and apps most of the time my wife has no issues with hers (M3) but long Skype calls is a killer for her and will actually shut down the laptop unless on a hard surface but I think this is an exception but she often finds it uncomfortable on bare legs
