I knew the tech was coming and I new it would be faster. But I dont care. Why you ask? Because my Mac does everything I need it too and more (infact I took it to school today and showed off the voice control thing-but there was too much background noise in the libary for it to work properly :( ). Its plenty fast, and with Leopard it can only get faster.
With that logic, my 12" G4 powerbook should be great for u...wanna trade? :p

Ahhhh... feels good to read these pearls right now, doesn't it? We've got so many prophets here in MacRumors :D

Hehehe, it's nice to know that I am one the authors responsible for such pearls...I just wanted to see your angry reaction by then...and to say you shouldn't trust clairvoyants on the streets... :D

I could take it off your hands if you're really desparate to get rid of it... But seriously, maybe I'm just being slow today but how does that work? Sure, the PowerBook will get the job done, but slowly.

It depends on what metric you measure the increase.

On specific tasks where the software is further optimized for and can take advantage of the 64bit instruction set of the C2D, the speed boost can be up to 35% or more. ...So Apple's claim is valid in it's own way and as more software migrates to 64bit, those running more complex tasks like video encoding, 3D rendering and image processing will see a larger advantage over the previous Core Duo chips. Not to mention, the 2GHz and faster C2D processors have 4MB L2 cache.

In general though, C2D Meroms have a more efficeint instruction pipe and for most any software (even with a transition to 64bit) a 5 to 10 % gain is about all that should be expected.

Meh...the Core 2 Dup isnt much of an upgrade...most benchmarks seem to say about 10-15% faster, and thats, what, a few seconds at the most? I'd have my MacBook Core Duo with 2GB RAM than a Core 2 Duo MacBook with only 1GB. 64 bit is moot because it cal still "only" take 2GB RAM. Bigger HDs, well, I chose the 100GB option for a reason ;) .
I'd much rather have the MacBook that I have (1.83 Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 100GB HD) and got it when I did than have to wait for a marginal speed boost.

But all things being equal, if you didnt have a macbook, this present model is a sweet upgrade from the previous generation, considering you really do get a lot more for your buck with the bigger stock HD and better RAM right off the line.

but only marginally slower. lol, if ud like to buy it, PM me ;)

apple doesnt want to include a graphics update at this point. their targeted customers for the macbook are people who are just going to surf the net, check email, write papers, listen to some music, and maybe watch a movie once in awhile. apple doesnt NEED a graphics update to this line, because thers not much of a demand at this point.

I agree. There's always a demand for laptops that offer great graphics. The problem with putting better graphics in a macbook is the fact that it could harm their macbook pro sales. When it comes to money, people are willing to give up the aluminum shell if they can get a cheaper computer with graphics that can compete. everyone would love a macbook with 128MB of VRAM, but then if that happened, apple would have to have to find an even better graphics card for the MBP or let it suffer being defunct. if too much is added to the macbook the pro will suddenly be less appealing.

I was worried that these would be released before I could sell my CD MAcBook, but on inspection... same 60gb HD, same 512mb RAM, same disc drive, same screen size, same clock speed, same enclosure, same "graphics card" (read: none)...

The average eBayer won't know the differene between CD and C2D so it looks like there'll be ~ no difference.

I would have liked to see the premium for black come down, can't we treat all colors equally?

Hey, I'm one of the "waiters", so now I can finally buy a laptop!
I do have a few questions though, I'll probably buy a "Brenthaven Pro 12/15 Shoulder Case" to take it on the road.
But I want to be sure if this bag is good for the MB. On the Brenthaven website it says that this bag is good for a MB, but the Apple site doesn't mention the MB, just the older Powerbooks and iBooks.
Will the MB fit good, or will it sit in there too loosely?

Also, I currently follow graphical classes in college. Some people say that in that case you should opt better for a MBP, but why (can't afford it anyway)? Apps like the Adobe Suite (Photoshop etc) and even 3D applications don't even use the graphical card as far as I know, but just the processor! I do know that it'll go slow due Rosetta, but that's the same for the MBP.

I'll be getting the 2.0 GHz MB with 2GB RAM.

Brenthavens are excellent bags. I bought a brown Metro for my blackbook and its been a great travel case for many months now. i even dropped it down the stairs once when i got pushed in a crowd at school and no harm done. I wouldnt worry about Photoshop too much...and even the 3D apps. the lack of a dedicated graphics card is usually only an issue when the app requires that your computer is capable of supporting many frames per second, which isnt the case if youre doing 3D modelling instead of animation. I used photoshop on my blackbook, it works rather well, and i only have 1GB. with your 2GB you should have no problem supporting Rosetta-translated applications.

lol, never in america...
jk, the premium has come down now, from $150 to $50. customize a 1299 white macbook to 120gb, and the total comes out to $1449

I really like this upgrade. I had hoped so hard for an X1300, but then there would be really no difference between MB and MBP. I think as long as the Mini has a GMA, the MacBook will too.

To start of the new Santa Rosa Leopard begging threads::D

MWSF:
Leopard
iLife '07
New 20" - 24" - 30" ACD's with updated resolution to match Leopard res. independence
8 core Mac Pros (to order with a nice new ACD :D)
N firmware upgrades for all C2D, and N as standard on all macs shipping excpet the Mini:p

April/May:
MBP (Sanat Rosa, upgraded screen res.)
MB (Santa Rose, upgraded screen res.)
iMac (Santa Rose, upgraded screen res.)
Mini (C2D or Santa Rosa)

Ya gotta love that shiny Apple.

Well La Dee Da!

I've been sick for last two days so just got up and through the End Of Rumsfeld Bush Press Conference.

So like I said last week "Tuesday." Due to the election "Wednesday" is the new "Tuesday".

1. Told you all it was going to be at the same speeds for many months. :(

NOTE: 1.83GHz has only same old 2MB L2 Shared Cache while the 2GHz has Double 4MB L2 Shared Cache so the 1.83GHz model is NOT nearly as attractive in this new line as it was in the last.

2. Glad to see the 1GB stock. :) The really good news is that Apple's 2GB Kit @ $175 is a totally competitive better than 3rd party kit prices. Whoopie! :) Too bad Apple doesn't give the buyer more credit for taking back the two 512MB sticks. :(

3. I also predicted 160 & 200GB HD offerings. Excellent. But you can buy a 200GB Toshiba PMR Drive for $260 and put it in yourself instead of giving Apple $350 minus the 80 you can put in an external FW case. You can buy the 160 for $180 instead of giving Apple $250. So Apple's HD upgrade pricing is out of whack with the market. :(

Glad to see the C2D MB is out. :) Only the C2D mini and the 8-core MP are left for next week to complete the transition to all 64-bit line. I WISH - not think - the mini gets 1.83GHz & 2GHz speeds so there is a 4MB L2 cache opportunity in the mini when it ships. But won't be surprised if it doesn't happen.

Interesting, didn't realize that.

id more be willing to buy a blackbook now, for only an extra $50. plus, it would be build to order, so if u need to return, or replace it, its less of a hassel.
